CD Review: "Ember" - Chelsea Rae

EP: "Ember"
Artist: Chelsea Rae
Release: November 29, 2010
Label: Independent

If you're looking for country twang, "woe is me", "mama got hit by a damned old train" country music, you won't find that listening to the new EP, "Ember", by Chelsea Rae. The only thing you're gonna find here is everything that isn't traditional country music - Chelsea Rae is hard rockin', foot stompin', and Wrangler covered ass kickin' country music. Her first ep, "Justice", was thumpin' but "Ember" takes it up to a whole new level of "awww hell yeah".

Comprised of 6 new songs written by Chelsea Rae and some of Nashville's best songwriters including American Idol favorite, Bo Bice, hit songwriter, Bridgette Tatum ("Loud" - Big and Rich, "She's Country" - Jason Aldean), "Ember" shows that independent artists can release music just as good if not better than that released by a major label. The only differences between Chelsea Rae's release and a major label release are "fluff, filler, autotuner and an overstuffed executive's wallet". You won't find any of those on this EP and that's a welcome change.

I'm not gonna break this EP down song by song because it would just be repetitive - "Brand on Me" - Love it, "I Smell Smoke" - Love it, "Red Cups" - Love it, you get the idea. Why waste your time and extra keystrokes? What I will do is tell you that it would make a fine addition to your iPod's songwriters playlist.
