This is one cd I've been waiting on patiently for 4 years and those of you that know me know that patience is not my strongest character trait. To say "it was worth the wait" is "worth it's weight" in gold when it comes to the new self-titled release by Josh Pruno. It's been a long time coming but the best things take time.
Josh is one of those artists that you won't see playing every dive and honky tonk desperately trying every avenue to get his music heard, instead he can be found at home in his living room with his family, probably surrounded by a floor full of Legos and toys, his sock clad feet propped up working on writing that perfect song and perfecting his unique sound. Well, with the help of members of Tim McGraw's Dancehall Doctors as co-writers, he's perfected it and a sold out, standing room only cd release party at the Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville this past January will attest to that. Josh has that special something in his voice and in his songs that only comes around once in a rare while and that is due to the love and dedication he puts into everything he sings and writes. He has a James Taylor quality to his voice, a deep sense of pride and a quiet strength that is overwhelmingly present in each note. I don't think words can express how proud I am not only to know Josh as a person, but to be one of the first to promote his amazing talent and show you the end result of truly loving what you do and believing in your talents.
His first radio single off the debut cd, "Happy Father's Day (Big Brother)" tells the touching, emotional story of a man who was raised by his big brother in the absence of his father. It's a situation that so many in this world experience and is a wonderful tribute to those who encounter sad circumstances that force them to grow up much sooner than they should ever have to and take on the responsibility of being a stand in parent. The next song, "That's My Cross" is another tug at the heart strings, a dedication to a father remembering his young daughter who has passed away and her grave is the emotional cross he must bear every day. Track three, "When I Get Home", is one of my favorites because I know Josh's heart and his deep love of his family. His every thought always goes back to his wife and young sons and being a loving father and husband outweighs any recognition he could ever get for his music. "You Don't Have to Say It Out Loud" is probably my favorite song on the entire cd. I love everything about this song from the message the lyrics convey to musical arrangement and instrumentation. I think I'll listen to it again before I actually finish up this review, can ya hang on a minute? .... *she sings out loud and very off key* ... "honey, you don't have to say it loud 'cause what you do is sayin' it all". Isn't that the truth? Actions say everything that words never can. The cd is just one big happy place for me, from start to finish, all the way to the last note. What a way to make an entrance to the music world, Josh. You did it right and there are so many good things lined up in the stars for you.
