The musician, 34, popped the question to fellow singer-songwriter Jessa Lee Yantz, 29, he tells PEOPLE exclusively. They are planning an intimate destination wedding in the Dominican Republic.
"I finally found the person that I can't be without," says Houser. "Jessa makes me a better person every day, and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with her."
Buzz about the engagement began on July 22, after Yantz's sister, Alicia, Tweeted her congratulations. A slew of fan inquiries followed.
"I had no idea anyone would care that I'm engaged," joked the ACM nominee whose chart-toppers include "Boots On" and "Anything Goes." "But I want to thank everyone for their outreach and support regarding the news of our engagement."
