Having never really heard much from these guys other than "When It Rains" and "Guinevere", I had never had that much to go on until I saw the Eli Young Band perform at the Country Throwdown in 2009. I immediately purchased their cd, "Jet Black and Jealous" and have been waiting for this one. The wait was worth it.

"Life at Best" is probably the best title they could have come up with because this is their best to date, in my opinion. You can almost hear the maturity that has occurred between the last cd and this one. The band has a sound quite like no one else, outstanding harmonies and this sound blends perfectly with the stories they tell. One of the things I like about this cd is that there aren't really obvious "filler" songs on here, each song is listener worthy. "Crazy Girl" is the hit single from the cd, earning gold single status with over 500,000 downloads, and understandably so. Most everyone can relate to it since women really are crazy when it comes to love and relationships. We do stupid things, we do loving things and we do some crazy crap in between and for some reason, men seem to stick with us through it all and love us regardless. Nice of the Eli Young Band to notice and take this public. LOL!

The cd is made up of 14 tracks and not one of them twangs about honky tonks, mama or Jack Daniels. The cd is full of lyrical love and honest thought, songs that you can lay in the dark and really listen to. Now I know what you're thinking, 14 tracks??? 14 is a little longer than the typical cd, but ya know what, it doesn't bother me at all. It give me a couple of extra tracks of listening pleasure. Mike Eli has the kind of voice I can listen to for 14 tracks and not wind up yanking the earbuds from my ears. Much like other underrated artists such as Jason Michael Carroll and Gary Allan,  Eli Young Band is one of those bands that is kept back as a pinch hitter, stepping up to bat every once in awhile and when they do, they knock it out of the park. I gotta give this one my official seal of "Go Out and Get It". Well done guys! Lovin' it, recommending it and playing the crap out of it.
