Oak Ridge Boys Team with Save the Children, Inspiring Change During Season of Giving

Iconic Group Helping Those in Need with Extensive Holiday Tour & Network TV Special

The legendary Oak Ridge Boys are kicking off the season with a 31-city holiday tour, and teaming with Save the Children to lend a hand to those in need. For those who miss them on stage, the group will bring its incomparable sounds into homes across the nation, with a broadcast television show, The Oak Boys Christmas Special. It’s set to begin airing on Friday, December 2, 2011, and will be featured on TLN (Total Living Network), WHT (World Harvest Network) and Inspiration Network as well as in various markets, including New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Miami, Houston, Phoenix, Memphis, San Francisco, Honolulu, and many more. Be sure to check local listings throughout the holiday season for the half-hour special. The program will also be featured on Save the Children’s YouTube Channel and include CMT Insider host Katie Cook, a long-time child sponsor through the organization.

Recently inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, members of the iconic group—Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall, William Lee Golden, and Richard Sterban— will captivate audiences across the U.S. with a unique blend of yuletide favorites, sprinkled with their greatest hits, winter wonderland scenes, and special effects through December 21, 2011. Songs will include the chart-topping hit, “Elvira” and their newly-released single, “What’cha Gonna Do” from the group’s latest CD, It’s Only Natural, exclusively available through Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®.

Oak Ridge Boys member Duane Allen says teaming with the organization is an honorable and purposeful mission. “We take pleasure in announcing that our group is partnering with Save the Children during this year’s Christmas tour. This organization has been around for nearly 100 years, and specializes in aiding children,” he states. “For less than a dollar a day, one can help a child. There’s no need for any child to suffer from poverty, but in reality, there are millions who need our help. The hope of The Oak Ridge Boys is that with Save the Children, we can continue to provide assistance because children are our greatest resource,” Allen explains.

Save the Children is the leading independent children’s organization making lasting change in the lives of children in the U.S. and 120 countries around the world. Through programs in health, education and economic opportunities, Save the Children works to ensure that children are able to reach their full potential.

“Oak Ridge Boys fans may be interested to know that Save the Children began its work right here in the U.S., to help the children of Appalachia during the Great Depression,” said Carolyn Miles, President & CEO of Save the Children. “Child sponsorship is a key way to help children in need, not only during the holidays but all year round and we are grateful that the Oak Ridge Boys are helping us to spread the message this season.”
