Blackberry Smoke's new album "The Whippoorwhill" Out August 14, presented by Zac Brown's Southern Ground Records

If you're not already familiar, let us introduce Blackberry Smoke. A quintet of "rock outlaws" according to Creative Loafing, Blackberry Smoke is known for their raucous country riffs, sprawling shows and substantial facial hair.

Before I go on, take a minute to inhale some of Smoke's rocking live show via the video clip below from their "Live From the Georgia Theatre" DVD out last year.

The latest offering from Blackberry Smoke will be available in-stores and on iTunes on August 14, presented by Zac Brown's Atlanta-based Southern Ground Records.

'The Whippoorwhill' comes on the heels of 2009's critically acclaimed Little Piece of Dixie and is the band's first album with Southern Ground. Recorded across sessions from Asheville to Atlanta to Fayetteville, the album was produced by the band, along with Clay Cook, Matt Mangano, and Zac Brown. The iTunes edition of the album will include four bonus tracks recorded in the same sessions.

Says Charlie Starr, frontman, of the band's country/rock/bluegrass blend, "We all love the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Stones and the Faces and Hank Williams and Bill Monroe. It's not about what kind of music it is, as long as it's good and it's honest."

Road warriors to their core, the band has created a superb album with a sound that has been tried and tested – and loved – night after night by audiences nationwide.
