TAKE A LISTEN: PUT THESE ARTISTS ON YOUR 2017 "PLAYDAR"

You may not be familiar with the name "Adam Craig", but you more than likely already know his style.  Arriving in Music City in 2004, he performed in various local hot spots in his bands Telluride and the Adam Craig Band and established a following. Adam was soon signed to a publishing deal and began writing music. His song, "Church Pew or Bar Stool" by Jason Aldean got him the recognition he needed to secure a deal with Sony/ATV Publishing. He later went on to co-wrote hits like "Close Your Eyes" by Parmalee, "Wastin' Gas" by Dallas Smith, and "Whiskey on My Breath" by Love and Theft to name a few. He signed a record deal with Stoney Creek Records in 2014, released his debut single "Reckon" in 2016 along with his debut EP. With his fresh sound, he's attracted quite a fan base and his popularity continues to grow.

His "every man" style, hints of gritty soul and bluegrass inflections puts Brent in a class all his own, one that no other artist compares to. His style is "Mellencamp riding down a dusty rural America back road with the windows down." Cobb has written songs for artists such as his good friend, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Kellie Pickler, Little Big Town and more. He released an EP in 2012, was featured on the 2016 "Southern Family" compilation and released his debut CD, "Shine on Rainy Day" this year as well. Brent Cobb takes pride in his music and it shines in his latest CD.

Have you ever heard of the Boomerang Theory? When you give your best to the world, the world returns the favor? Cash Creek gives their best with every note and every performance. Now with 2 new singles released simultaneously to country radio and Christian radio, "She Got Me" and "One Wave at a Time", the world is starting to give back to them via recognition and a growing allegiance of fans. "One Wave at a Time" is currently sitting at #1 for the second week in a row at Christian Music Weekly and "She Got Me" hit #1 on the Smokin' FM Top 20 Indie Chart. The band consists of 4 of the industry's best musicians who not only make up Cash Creek, but have been or currently are band members for Alabama, John Michael Montgomery and Brad Paisley. When you go see a performance by these guys, the world will pay you back in a good way with great music and a positive message. When you can tell that a band loves what they do and you can see the friendship on stage and off, that's how you know you're watching quality.

When it comes to country music, Texas artist Cody Jinks didn't wait for someone else to raise the bar, he raised it himself.  He knew he had a special gift and he knew he had to use it to the best of his ability and his latest CD, "I'm Not the Devil" is proof of that, debuting at No. 4 on the Top Country Albums chart. Cody Jinks is a heart that beats pure country. After his metal band broke up, Cody listened to his heart and decided country was where his voice belonged and we're sure glad he listened. His music resonates on a personal level and his subject matter can be a little dark, but dark is a good thing when it hits you when you need it to and his honesty is something we can sure appreciate.

I feel good adding Drake's name to this list, no pun intended ... well, ok maybe a little pun. Ok, I totally meant it. H. Jackson Brown, Jr. once said "Let your performance do the talking" and Drake White's performances speak volumes and each one is something unique and different. Drake is such a welcome change in musical direction. He is anything but boring or predictable. His music will have you up on your feet stomping and moving just as hard as he does. The energy he puts out is incredible. If you've never seen Drake perform, be ready to get your weekly dose of cardio in just one show. Drake White is more than a "Spark", he's a damn inferno. Big things coming from this guy, BIG THINGS.

This NC native has literally blown in like a "Hurricane" over the past year. His debut single "Hurricane" has made a huge impression on fans and country radio (thanks to Sirius XM's The Highway for getting it all started). His shows continue to draw large capacity crowds and his music is selling like crazy. There's nothing more attractive than humility and gratitude and Luke Combs has nailed both of these traits. He doesn't take the stage with anything other than heart and talent .. and maybe the occasional drink .. Ha! He leaves all of that heart on that stage when he walks off, knowing he gave it his all. He's one of my favorite artists of the year and I know without an ounce of doubt, he'll be one of mine for a long time to come.

Maggie Rose is the picture of the 3 P's: Passion, Patience, and Perseverance. She's really made a name for herself as a strong independent female artist. She had a setback a couple of years ago when she released "The Girl in Your Truck Song" which didn't exactly go over very well with radio or it's listeners but she stands unapologetic. She has been behind the scenes lately doing some writing and producing. The time off has paid off with her latest release, "The Variety Show Vol I.". What a great EP! It truly embraces who she is, shows a more personal side of herself and showcases her bad ass vocals. Her song "Love Me More" is striking chords and giving her the platform to really stand out in a sea of female artists. This is her year and she knows it. We've missed you Maggie Rose. Welcome back!

If you're looking for tradition in your country, stop right here. There's no need to go any farther. Country is in the blood and bones of Mo Pitney. Instead of rolling in their graves, George Jones and Merle Haggard are high fiving each other and smilling every time a Mo Pitney song is heard. With well received singles "Country" and "Boy and a Girl Thing" already on the books, Mo's just released his follow up single, "Everywhere" and it's already collecting great reviews. Mo is the real country deal, heart and soul.  I think Garth Brooks summed it up best by saying "True country music is honesty, sincerity, and real life to the hilt." This is exactly what you get when you get Mo Pitney.

If there was ever an artist more welcome to country music, it's Ned LeDoux, son of everyone's favorite cowboy, Chris LeDoux. Ned may look and sound like his dad, but Ned is his own artist just trying to keep the true western music legacy alive and well. Having grown up under Chris' infuence and playing in Chris' band, Western Underground, Ned knows better than anyone just how to do it.  Keep an ear out for Ned, you'll be hearing a lot from this guy.

ARTISTS TO WATCH IN 2016 - VOICES THAT ARE GONNA ROCK THE NEW YEAR

Another year of great music comes to a close in a couple of weeks but that means a start to another year of even better music to come. 2015 introduced us to several new artists who took off in a big way and are going to make an even bigger impact on country music in 2016. Here are the names, faces and voices that we think you should keep on your 2016 radar. It's shaping up to be a fantastic new year!

William Michael Morgan  -www.williammichaelmorgan.com
Twitter - @WMMorgan
Facebook - WilliamMichaelMorgan
Instagram - @wmmorganmusic

There's a lot of country tradition under this guy's hat. With a Keith Whitley soul and a voice that immediately brings to mind what country used to be, William Michael Morgan is reminding us what country was meant to be - pure, simple and honest. There's no fluff, no unnecessary excess ... he doesn't need it. What William Michael Morgan portrays is exactly who he is. His debut single, "I Met a Girl" is turning hats everywhere and making people stop to listen. While he may have met a girl, country music is the lucky one because we met one heck of an artist.

Leah Turner - www.leahturner.com
Twitter - @LeahTurnerMusic
Facebook - LeahTurnerMusic
Instagram - @LeahTurnerMusic

Leah Turner dared you to "Take the Keys" on her debut single, now she's taking those keys and opening the door to new beginnings with her new single, "Cowboy's Love". The single's video has been on the CMT Pure 12 Pack for a few weeks now and the single officially comes to iTunes on Friday, 12/18. She's grit and grace, the daughter of a team roper who isn't afraid to wrangle with anyone who tries to change her style. We think she'll be roping in a winner with the new single and you'll be hearing a lot more from Leah in the upcoming year. Leah is a country bad ass, but in a Loretta Lynn "Fist City", "You Ain't Woman Enough" way. Fans need to take country radio to "Fist City" and let them know that she's a "must add."

Mo Pitney - www.mopitney.com
Twitter - @MoPitney
Facebook - MoPitneyOfficial
Instagram - @MoPitney

Mo was another one we named an artist to watch in 2015 and now we add him again to the must watch list for 2016.

If you're a country music fan, I mean a TRIED and TRUE fan of twang, tradition and storytelling, you need to tune into Mo Pitney. Remember the name because Mo is the real deal, the next voice of traditional "sop grandma's homemade biscuits up with some gravy" country music. Trust me, country isn't dead, it's just starting to come back to life with a revival of the likes of new artists like of Mo, Craig Campbell, Sturgill Simpson, Cody Wickline, and William Michael Morgan. These new artists are knocking at country's door and fans are starting to answer the door with an enthusiastic response.

In June 2015, Pitney became the first debuting performer in 14 years to earn a standing ovation at the Grand Ole Opry. The last one was Turner. It could be a while before someone shows the merit to repeat that feat.

He's released several songs this year -  "Country", which was a writing collaboration with country legend "Whisperin" Bill Anderson, the personal and emotional tearjerker "Clean Up on Aisle Five", the upbeat invitation to "Come Do a Little Life" and the flirty and fun "Boy and a Girl Thing." There's nothing that isn't genuine about Mo or his music. We do take a chance on assuming that you're gonna love what you hear and that fans will be making him a voice of 2016.

Cam - www.camcountry.com
Twitter - @CamCountry
Facebook - CamCountry
Instagram - @CamCountry

You've seen her everywhere this year since releasing her debut single, "My Mistake to Make" and it's platinum certified follow up, the hauntingly beautiful "Burning House". Cam has graced many magazines, talk shows, radio shows, and stages in 2015 and hopefully we'll see her accepting her first Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance for "Burning House." Cam has a classic quality in her voice and an infectious attitude that seems to spread throughout a room quite quickly. It's qualities like this that make the difference between a wannabe and a star and Cam is star quality and she's more than proven it in such a short time. With the success of both singles, the "Burning House" video and her recent critically acclaimed CD, "Untamed", as strange as it seems, 2015 was just a beginning for Cam. I think it's safe to say we can expect another banner year for her in 2016.

Chris Stapleton - www.chrisstapleton.com
Twitter - @ChrisStapleton
Facebook - ChrisStapletonOfficial
Instagram - @CAStapleton

We had Chris as one of our artists to watch in 2015 and we weren't kidding. Chris released his then unknown "Traveller" CD which stayed behind the scenes until the ACM Awards where this quiet, unassuming bearded guy in a hat took over the night and surprised the music world by swooping in like a hawk collecting his prey and walked away with 3 of the night's most prestigious awards. While it may have been a shock to those at home, it was in no way a surprise of any kind for any country music industry person or fan in the know that night, we were all cheering and hitting social media with "I Told You About This Guy A Long Time Ago" accolades and congratulations. His performance of the George Jones' classic, "Tennessee Whiskey" with Justin Timberlake was one of the most talked about performances in ages and left a mark where it counts, in the hearts and ears of listeners. His CD sales shot through the roof and radio FINALLY got a clue and started adding his music to their rotations. 2016 is shaping up to bring country back full circle and there is "Nobody to Blame" but Chris Stapleton.

Kasey Tyndall - www.kaseytyndall.com
Twitter - @KaseyTyndall
Facebook - KaseyTyndallMusic
Instagram - @KaseyTyndall

What's that quote by Shakespeare? Though she be but little, she is fierce? Well he obviously had a premonition about Kasey Tyndall. She's a petite little thing but her voice is absolutely fierce and her "get it done" attitude would make Larry the Cable Guy proud. Picked out of tons of video entries, Keith Urban personally chose Kasey to sing a duet with him in Raleigh during his tour stop in August 2014 and her career has been nonstop since then, having moved to Nashville and working with Tennessee East Management (run by Dave Rose of Deep South Entertainment who works with Parmalee, Stryper and other well known artists and Kevin Frazier, local NC venue owner). She's caught the ear of industry professionals, is opening for well known artists as well as performing on her own and released her first single, "Prove Me Wrong" in 2015 with a follow up single on the way. Kasey's a strong one and she's gonna prove them all wrong in 2016!

Morgan Myles - www.morganmyleslive.com
Twitter - @MorganMylesLive
Facebook - MorganMylesLive
Instagram - @MorganMylesLive

Morgan isn't just another blonde in the country crowd because she was born to stand out. With an edge in her voice that reminds one of early Miranda Lambert and a confidence that rivals any top selling country female, Morgan Myles does anything but fit in. With a new EP on the way, "Miss Morgan Myles" is gonna make her mark on 2016. We're really diggin' what Morgan has to offer and after you go to her website and take a listen to "Whiskey Dreaming", I think you'll be right there with us on this one.

Drake White - www.drakewhite.com
Twitter - @DrakeWhite
Facebook - DrakeWhiteMusic
Instagram - @DrakeWhiteStomp

His music just "Feels Good." Really, that's how I'd sum up Drake White. You can't help but move when his music comes on and it really does just give you a good feeling. We've followed Drake for awhile now ever since seeing him open for Montgomery Gentry a few years back in Danville, VA. He's come a long way since then and has performed on the historic Opry stage multiple times. His shows are electric, energizing and over the top fun. His positive attitude and interaction with his fan base makes him a top favorite for 2016.

Chris Janson - www.chrisjanson.com
Twitter - @Jason_Chris
Facebook - ChrisJansonMusic
Instagram - @TheChrisJanson

Chris is another artist who had one hell of a breakout in 2015, but again, that was just the start of what we're gonna see from him in the upcoming year. His independently released single, "Buy Me a Boat" hit the top of the iTunes charts, a relatively unknown feat for an unsigned artist and that set off a fireworks display of major proportions in the industry, leading to a video being funded by CMT, a major label signing with Warner Bros, a re-release of the single to country radio which resulted in his first #1 hit on Mediabase and a platinum certification just this month, multiple appearances on the Opry stage, the release of his debut album and the release of his follow up single "The Power of Positive Drinkin'".  Chris Janson is here to stay and I wouldn't hesistate to say we'll be seeing him at #1 during the next year.

Granger Smith - www.grangersmith.com
Twitter - @GrangerSmith
Facebook - GrangerSmith
Instagram - @GrangerSmith

What can I say other than it's about damn time that the world caught on to Granger's music. They caught onto his alter ego, "Earl Dibbles, Jr." a long time ago. Who would have thought that anyone would attempt the alter ego thing since the whole Garth Brooks/Chris Gaines thing (even though that's one of my favorite albums), but Granger did it and it works. His music works just as well as his sense of humor. His previous CD, "Dirt Road Driveway" released in 2013 was great but just didn't take off but thanks to his new single, "Backroad Song", Granger Smith is back on the highway and headed a new, successful direction. He recently made his Opry debut and you can count on hearing much more from him in 2016.

Maren Morris - www.marenmorris.com
Twitter - @MarenMorris
Facebook - MarenMorris
Instagram - @MarenMorris

At the age of 25, Maren Morris has already established a name for herself in the ultra-competitive Nashville circles with her multi-stylistic vocal influence. Maren signed a publishing deal with Big Yellow Dog Music after winning the 2012 New Music Seminar's "Artist on the Verge" award. Maren's songwriting credits include cuts by Kelly Clarkson and Tim McGraw. Maren has shared the stage with artists such as Gary Allan, Marty Stuart, Radney Foster, Eli Young and others. She recently released her own single, "My Church", which is garnering acclaim on Sirius XM's The Highway and is being picked up by stations nationwide.

Chris Carmack - www.chriscarmackmusic.com
Twitter - @RealCarmack
Facebook - @ChrisCarmackMusic
Instagram - @RealCarmack

Best known as super jock Luke on "The O.C" and for his modeling turns with Abercrombie and Fitch and other well known brands, Chris Carmack has become a well known face and voice around Music City since taking on the role of "Will Lexington", a singer/songwriter struggling not only with his music but with his sexuality, on ABC's "Nashville". This role has made Chris not only a household face, but a household name with his vocal ability. His chiseled features and smoldering good looks are just added bonuses to his musical talent. Chris just released his debut EP, "Pieces of You" to critical acclaim. Entertainment Weekly called the release "Stunning" while Digital Radio compared him to Keith Urban. Chris Carmack's fictitious character may be having a hard time coming to terms with who he is, but the real Chris Carmack has made it clearly known that he knows who he is and has already left his mark on the country music industry.

ARTISTS TO WATCH IN 2015

2014 was a breakout year for country music, full of debuts from new artists and the much anticipated return of two of country's greatest, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. 2014 was chock full of tours from Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line, Eric Church and more. It was the year of "bro country", trucks, Fireball whiskey and white tank tops and it was also the year that people got tired of "bro country", trucks, Fireball whiskey and white tank tops. It was the year that female country artists like Lee Ann Womack, Maddie and Tae, Leah Turner, Katie Armiger, Brandy Clark and others showed that they weren't about to take a back seat to their male counterparts and began to make a statement by putting estrogen back in the spotlight. It was the year of an overabundance of awards shows, there were the ACM's, the ACA's, the AMA's, the ACCA's, the CMA's, the CMT Awards, and the Grammys. The news was full of stories about country music, both positive and not so positive. No matter which was you spin it, 2014 officially put country music on the map and on people's radios making the genre bigger than ever.

2014 was a big year for new artists with hits by Eric Paslay, Randy Houser, Sunny Sweeney, Will Hoge, Brothers Osborne, Craig Campbell, and others that have worked hard to get their music heard. This year can only get better with the crop of new names that have already made an impression with their debut singles who are waiting to be the next breakout artist. We've chosen our picks for those artists you should really start paying attention to and who we hope to see heading big places in 2015!

Male Artists

Craig Wayne Boyd - Fresh off a HUGE win on the NBC hit show, "The Voice", Nashville's Craig Wayne Boyd brings with him a breath of fresh air that country music has long needed. With a compelling back story of more than 10 years of struggling in the business and nearly giving up on music, a strong voice and a strong sense of who he is as an artist, Craig has already more than proven himself to be in it for the long haul. He brought America to it's knees with his rendition of the classic spiritual "The Old Rugged Cross", he gave new life to Johnny Cash's "Walk the Line" and his debut single, "My Baby's Got a Smile" hit the #1 spot on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, with Craig being only the 2nd artist to debut at #1 since Garth Brooks made history with "More Than A Memory" in 2007. You can connect with Craig at www.craigwayneboyd.com, on Twitter and Facebook. You can also catch him out on tour!

Mo Pitney - Mo Pitney is more than a singer, he's a storyteller. His latest single, "Country" isn't just a song, it's who he is and where his heart is. His voice, style and way of presenting a song is unique and at the same time, familiar. Tradition is where Mo's heart is and the hearts of country fans is where we'll likely see Mo residing this year.

Chris Lane - This NC boy already made a huge impact on fans this year with his hit single, "Broken Windshield View" and his good looks and was a familiar voice as support on tours with Lee Brice and Florida Georgia Line. He's also opened up for big names such as The Band Perry, Chris Young and Brantley Gilbert . He is currently signed with Big Loud Mountain and is in the process of recording his first EP with producer Joey Moi. Chris followed his faith and his faith in himself has led him to the brink of being a breakout artist and we can see that happening in 2015.

Chase Bryant - Fans love an artist who is multi-dimensional and Chase Bryant is just that. He can sing, has a distinct image and his guitar skills are more than exceptional. Chase has hit all the right notes with his new single, "Take It on Back" which was a huge hit on Sirius XM's The Highway and is slowing making it's way to mainstream stations nationwide. Keep your ears open, Chase is gonna make a real name for himself in 2015.

Canaan Smith - I finally had the pleasure of seeing Canaan Smith perform live during the summer and now I get it. The piercing eyes, the smile, the rugged sexy look combined with a great voice got my attention. Canaan is much more than a behind the scenes songwriter, he's a presence that country fans are starting to catch on to. His latest single, "Love You Like That" is exactly what radio is doing, they're loving him. Looking forward to seeing what he is gonna bring to the table in 2015.

Dean Alexander - We've been huge fans of Dean Alexander since he first came on the scene a few years back. With his good looks, sense of humor and stunning vocals, he's sure to make an impression on country music in 2015. His single, "Live a Little" was a huge smash on The Highway and was one of the summer's "feel good" songs. This talent took a chance  on Nashville, pulling into town in 2006 with $100.00 in his pocket and nothing but his clothes and that chance is paying off with country music taking a chance on him. The road he's been traveling is winding right on into 2015 and his music is proving that Dean definitely made the right choice.

Female Artists

Annie Bosko - We just caught wind of Annie with her brand new single, "Crooked Halo" which seemed to just come out of nowhere, but isn't nowhere the place the best artists seem to come from?Having opened or performed backing vocals for country names such as Darius Rucker, Dierks Bentley, Big & Rich, and Josh Turner, Annie is proving to be one hell of a stand alone artist who can not only sing with a power that few possess but an undeniable quality in her vocals. She's feisty, determined and well on her way to being a force to be reckoned with in 2015.

Mickey Guyton - This Texas native may have lived a nomad's life but she's always known music was where she was destined to wind up. Her debut single, "Better Than You Left Me" has garnered national attention in the press and throughout the music industry. She released her EP, "Unbreakable", last spring and that's exactly what Mickey Guyton is, unbreakable. She's in the process of completing his debut full length CD and we're looking forward to what she's got coming out way in the new year.

Maddie and Tae - These girls blew the tops off beer bottles everywhere when they took to country radio and video with their mega-hit single, "Girl in a Country Song", the song that kicked bro country right in the naughty no no place. These girls came out of nowhere and immediately made a name for themselves and that name isn't "blond girl with tan legs #1 and blond girl with tan legs #2." Yes, they're blond and yes they're attractive but they're also extremely talented and intelligent. These girls made their point and they have staked their place in country music by making headlines nationwide and now they're ready to show country music fans that they're much more than a novelty, they're a duo to be taken seriously.

Kelsea Ballerini - At the age of 15, Kelsea Ballerini made the move to Nashville and a short 4 years later was signed to her first publishing deal, followed shortly thereafter with a record deal with Black River Entertainment. She recently released her first single, "Love Me Like You Mean It" and it's taken off like a rodeo rider on a bucking bronco but the only difference here is that Kelsea isn't gonna be bucked off in 8 seconds, this girl has staying power. With powerfully strong vocals and a unique clarity, she proves that she's got the chops to go head to head against any of today's new female artists.

Karyn Rochelle - Karyn's always been a songwriter in the round, a voice in the background until 2014 when Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood chose her to be the opening act on the comeback tour of the century and step out from behind the pen and step out vocally in front of millions. This Wilmington, NC native has long been a songwriting jewel in country's crown having written multiple songs for Trisha such as "Georgia Rain" and "This is Me You're Talking To", Kellie Pickler including her debut hit "Red High Heels" and "Don't You Know You're Beautiful, Sunny Sweeney's monster hit "From a Table Away" and many other artists including George Jones, Sara Evans, and Steve Wariner. Having released her own self-titled EP this year, she's no longer just the background to some of country's best, she's a stand alone artist in her own right with a country tone and strength in her voice that should be in the spotlight. (Check out "Jezebels" and "Better Off" on her EP, these are both hit worthy.)

Sunny Sweeney - If I had to sum up Sunny Sweeney in 4 words, these easily come to mind - "attitude, backbone, confidence and balls." Yes I said balls because that's what she's got, bigger than most male artists and brass at that. She stands in a class all her own, in a small group of females who don't back down, who don't cave to industry pressure to be someone they're not and she refuses to be apologetic for the strong person that she is. She believes in her music and more and more people are catching on and believing in her as well. Her song, "From a Table Away" was a hit, her last single "Bad Girl Phase" told women everywhere that it's okay to step out from behind the aprons, the weekend soccer mom persona and the Emily Post manners and be the "bad girl" once in awhile. The single went to #1 on the Texas Music Charts and her cd, "Unprovoked" was listed on many lists as one of the top albums of 2014. She's got that undeniable, identifiable country twang, the "boot in your ass" attitude and the "in your face" personality to really take her a long way this year. People really need to tune in. Sunny Sweeney is gonna bust through those closed doors with a racket and make some major noise this year.

Group

Old Dominion - Hot damn I love these guys. Some of the best songwriters came together said "screw it, let's perform our own music" and it has paid off in spades. Their debut single, "Shut Me Up" took Sirius XM's The Highway by storm, making iTunes New and Noteworthy list, and getting thumbs up from online country sites like Taste of Country and Roughstock. Rolling Stone included OD in their "New Artists You Need to Know". The band has opened for Chase Rice on his headlining "Ignite the Night" tour and are heading out as support for Kenny Chesney on "The Big Revival" tour this summer. Their follow up single, "Break Up With Him" is already making waves and is making it's way towards being another hit for the group.

A Thousand Horses - Rolling Stone named them "best up and comers" at the Austin City Limits Music Festival and then Scott Borchetta of Big Machine caught wind of the band and signed them to a record deal with Republic Nashville. I saw them perform at City Limits Saloon in Raleigh, NC a couple of years ago and immediately loved their sound and their stage presence, I knew it was just a matter of time before people started to catch onto their unique sound and style. Their song, "Drunk Dial", should have been a hit without a doubt. They've just released their new single, "Smoke" on iTunes.
