MUSIC HEALTH ALLIANCE CELEBRATES TEN YEARS OF HELPING TO "HEAL THE MUSIC"

Over 100 million dollars saved in healthcare costs, providing free healthcare advocacy to over 20,000 music industry professionals in all 50 U.S. states

Dierks Bentley joins celebration as celebrity ambassador

In its tenth year, Music Health Alliance launches the Richard M. Bates SMILE Fund
and The Visionary Circle

Music Health Alliance (MHA), the music industry’s critical non-profit healthcare resource, is marking major milestones in its mission to provide free healthcare advocacy and resources to music industry professionals. As the non-profit celebrates its first decade of providing free healthcare advocacy and support to a largely self-employed industry, MHA is uniquely positioned to continue to heal the music in the decades to come.

Music Health Alliance’s mission is to create a safe and confidential place for the music community to gain the very best healthcare and health insurance solutions through defined and transparent advocacy services, with an emphasis on the prevention of illness and overall wellness.
Since 2013, MHA has:
Saved more than $100,000,000 in healthcare costs
  • Provided free advocacy and support to over 20,000 music industry clients in 50 states
  • Facilitated more than 3,200 counseling sessions through MHA’s Mental Health Fund
  • Saved nearly 2,500 families from bankruptcy due to medical bills
  • Provided life-saving diagnostic care to 57 clients through the Ben Eyestone Fund
  • Aided 31 individuals in securing life-saving heart, liver, kidney and lung transplants
  • Provided access to more than 1,000,000 meals during the COVID-19 pandemic “In ten years
MHA has gone from just an idea to a thriving organization that has served tens of thousands and saved over $100 million in healthcare costs to keep the music playing across this country,” says Tatum Allsep, Music Health Alliance Founder and CEO. “MHA’s success is possible because we have a fierce staff, dedicated Board of Directors and encouraging donors and community who sincerely believe in our mission to Heal The Music. Thank you all and cheers to 10 years!”

The 15 person team at MHA continue the non-profit’s mission to provide free healthcare advocacy, access and resources to the music industry, more than 75% of whom are self-employed. Songwriters, musicians, performers, producers, engineers, venue operators, artist managers, agents, publishers, business managers, and more have had access to critical medicine, mental health resources, diagnostic tests, lifesaving transplants, end of life care and many other necessary services.

Reggie is one of the many music industry professionals who have received free healthcare advocacy and support from MHA. The 41 year-old tour manager lost his right arm below the elbow when he was injured in a tragic accident witnessed by his wife and children. He was quickly referred to MHA as he had no health insurance. Music Health Alliance was able to secure affordable coverage and negotiate his more than $500,000 in medical bills down to zero. By helping Reggie navigate the healthcare process, MHA enabled him to secure a neurobionics prosthetic arm, allowing him to resume his music career, and arranged trauma counseling for the entire family. By providing access to health insurance, negotiating medical costs, and navigating the healthcare process, MHA was able to provide affordable solutions for an otherwise debilitating and career-ending healthcare crisis. “Music Health Alliance literally put my life and family back together when we thought all hope was lost,” said Reggie. “We thought we were going to lose our house and I thought I would never be able to work again. They saved us.”

During a kickoff event held at Nashville’s Gibson Garage yesterday, multi-platinum entertainer Dierks Bentley, a longtime supporter and client of MHA, joined the celebration as celebrity ambassador.

“Healthcare is the ultimate thing you can offer your team out there on the road,” shared Bentley. “Having 30 people on my team, it is tough to navigate insurance and healthcare and having MHA to help us figure it out and uncover benefits we didn’t even know were available. They’ve helped us save so much over 10 years and $100 MILLION industry wide...it's just incredible!”

As MHA begins its tenth year of serving the music industry, it is honored to establish the Richard M. Bates SMILE Fund, named in memory of music enthusiast and the Walt Disney Company’s longtime SVP, Government Relations. The Richard M. Bates SMILE Fund is the music industry’s first dedicated fund for dental health. Through the generosity and vision of Richard Bates’s family and friends, and matching grants from The Walt Disney Company, music professionals of all ages will no longer need to forgo critical dental healthcare that is often costly and not covered by medical insurance.

“Our family is very grateful to support something so meaningful and lasting,” said his widow Mrs. Rose Bates. “Richard would have been quite touched by this honor while being thrilled that it will help so many musicians with their health-related concerns.”

Music makers of all genres who are in need of critical dental healthcare will now be able to access qualifying grants through the Fund, with applications accessible here. The Richard M. Bates SMILE Fund will not only bring smiles, but will also make a significant impact on MHA’s mission to heal the music.

Entirely funded through grants and individual and corporate donations, financial support from the music community is critical to continue Music Health Alliance’s advocacy and free services. 86% of all dollars donated go directly to MHA’s programs and services - for every $1 donation, MHA is able to provide $30 in life-saving healthcare resources to Heal The Music.

As the non-profit enters its tenth year of healing the music, MHA is launching The Visionary Circle, an annual giving society to recognize generous friends who are invested in the ongoing success and future vision of Music Health Alliance. The future of MHA lies in the belief that no member of our music industry family should ever have to face a healthcare crisis alone, and The Visionary Circle will make an immediate impact on the scope of MHA’s work and ensure it can continue to heal the music for generations to come. Find additional information here.

MHA fights so those in our industry never have to feel alone in a health crisis and removes obstacles so patients can receive lifesaving care. MHA continues to advocate on behalf of songwriters, producers, audio engineers, musicians, recording artists, publishers and more across the country. Thanks to the direct efforts of MHA, over 20,000 members of the music community across the country have gained access to lifesaving transplants, medicine, mental health resources, end of life care and many other necessary services. Its services are free to any person who has worked in the music industry for two or more years or who has credited contributions to 4 commercially released recordings or videos. Spouses, partners, and children of qualifying individuals may also receive access to the non-profit’s services from birth to end of life.

BEACHLIFE RANCH: BRANDI CARLILE, DIERKS BENTLEY AND MORE SEPTEMBER 16-18 IN REDONDO BEACH, CA

BeachLife Festival, Southern California’s premier three-day live music, art, and culinary experience, is proud to announce its 2022 return to Seaside Lagoon in Redondo Beach, CA on September 16-18 for the first annual BeachLife Ranch Country & Americana festival.

The initial music lineup for BeachLife Ranch includes The Lumineers, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Brandi Carlile, Dierks Bentley, Wilco, Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real, and a very special performance of Songs Of Waylon Jennings, featuring Shooter Jennings & surprise guests. Look for the full list of music artists to be announced in the coming weeks.

Weekend tickets for BeachLife Ranch are on sale now at www.BeachLifeRanch.com.

BeachLife Ranch follows the success of BeachLife Festival, which established itself in 2019 as a boutique, family-friendly beach party focused on Southern California’s surf and skate culture. This year’s sold out BeachLife Festival (May 13-15) featured performances from iconic music artists including The Smashing Pumpkins, Steve Miller Band, Weezer, Sheryl Crow, 311 and more.

Due to demand from the Southern California community and music fans around the world, BeachLife producers created BeachLife Ranch for fall 2022. The festival will feature country, Americana, and outlaw country artists performing on the picturesque waterfront of the Pacific Ocean.

BeachLife Ranch co-founder / producer Allen Sanford said, “We’re excited to celebrate the ‘cowboy surfer’ way of life — making memories, weekend barbecuing and listening to tunes, whether on a ranch or at the beach. This festival is inspired by growing up in Southern California and spending summers in Central California trail riding on horses all day, then coming home to wash up for a sunset BBQ of Santa Maria tri-tip with all the fixins. It’s different from surf & skate beach culture, but the vibe is the same, and something we want to celebrate: love and respect for the outdoors, nature, friends and community. We invite you to the only major country and Americana festival on the beach in Southern California.”

BeachLife’s exclusive dining SideStage Experience will also return to BeachLife Ranch with a southern flair featuring smoked meats and BBQ options, with a bit of “Texas heat” influencing the top-notch cuisine. The SideStage Experience is the best seat in the house to dine, providing guests the opportunity to be seated onstage while their favorite musicians perform and enjoy a four-course meal from a celebrity chef, with the Pacific Ocean as the backdrop. Steve Baltin of Forbes proclaimed, “Located on a platform adjacent to the main stage, known as the HighTide stage, the dinner or brunch is one of the best VIP deals at any festival in America.”

BeachLife Festival and BeachLife Ranch are proud to support the Los Angeles South Bay community via philanthropy, as well as eco-friendly and sustainable initiatives, specifically related to the preservation of beaches and oceans, as well as the local community. With a number of national and local nonprofit organizations as philanthropic partners, BeachLife features onsite activations to drive awareness and raise funds for these important causes.

Weekend tickets for BeachLife Ranch are on sale now at www.BeachLifeRanch.com. 3-Day General Admission passes can be purchased for $299. BeachLife Ranch is also offering a new ticket type, General Admission Plus, for $379, which provides festival entry for three days along with unlimited ins and outs for patrons. 3-Day VIP passes are available for $699 and the 3-day Admiral Passes are $995, offering an assortment of new and upgraded amenities. In addition, the exclusive 3-Day Outlaw Pass includes perks such as a hosted bar, private bungalows, and valet parking for $2999. For added luxury, space, and privacy, BeachLife Ranch also offers private cabana suites for larger groups & parties available for purchase.

BeachLife Festival is located at 137 N. Harbor Drive, Redondo Beach, CA 90277.

On Tuesday, April 5, staples of Nashville's musical fabric Bobby Bare, Keb' Mo', Connie Smith and Dierks Bentley were inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame. Each artist was presented their own star in Walk of Fame park in SoBro between the Hilton and the Country Music Hall of Fame, where Bare has been a member since 2013 and Smith since 2012.

Bare was presented his star by longtime friend, legendary producer and Nashville Songwriter's Hall of Fame member Buddy Cannon, Smith by husband and fellow Walk of Fame inductee Marty Stuart, Keb' Mo' by fellow Walk of Fame inductee Clint Black and Bentley also by Marty Stuart.

Bare’s career has spanned over seven decades, he received a GRAMMY in 1964 for “Detroit City” and earned nearly five dozen top 40 hits from 1962 to 1983. He has long been considered one of the most instrumental connectors in Country music having laid the foundation for contemporaries like Waylon Jennings and Billy Joe Shaver and influencing the styles of Garth Brooks, Blake Shelton and countless others who’ve followed in his footsteps.

The Walk of Fame’s goal is to recognize artists for their outstanding contributions to the musical history of Nashville. The artists inducted this year received the 90th, 91st, 92nd and 93rd stars on the Walk of Fame during the first ceremony in more than two years due to the pandemic.

“We are proud to bring back a Music City Walk of Fame ceremony with such a distinguished and diverse group of inductees who span various genres and eras of music,” said Ed Hardy, a distinguished Music Row executive and chairman of Music City Inc., the NCVC foundation that oversees the Music City Walk of Fame. “The individuals in the Walk of Fame remind us of Nashville’s rich history as Music City, and we congratulate the newest four members.”

This induction class joined fellow iconic musicians like Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Jimi Hendrix and Garth Brooks. The Music City Walk of Fame originated in 2006 on Nashville’s Music Mile where the permanent sidewalk medallions with the names of inductees are displayed in a star design.

DIERKS BENTLEY TO RECEIVE CRS ARTIST HUMANITARIAN AWARD

The Country Radio Broadcasters have announced multi-PLATINUM singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley as the recipient of the CRS 2018 Artist Humanitarian Award, presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, and Dan Halyburton, Owner of Falls Media Group, as the recipient of the CRS 2018 Tom Rivers Humanitarian Award. Both individuals will be recognized at Country Radio Seminar 2018, following the Opening Ceremonies on Monday, Feb. 5, 2018.

The CRB Artist Humanitarian Award was created in 1990 by the organization’s board to honor Country music artists who have exhibited exceptional humanitarian efforts during their career. Past recipients of the annual award have included Zac Brown, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Brooks & Dunn, Reba McEntire, Vince Gill, Garth Brooks, Charlie Daniels, among others.

Award-winning entertainer Dierks Bentley has demonstrated his dedication to giving back nation-wide through many charitable initiatives and events, as he has raised over $4 million for charities through his “Miles & Music For Kids” all-star motorcycle ride and concert, including Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the country. Additionally, in 2013 Bentley partnered with KMLE and KAFF as they organized and hosted the Country Cares Concert in Arizona, raising more than half a million dollars for the families of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. His first-ever song written and recorded for a motion picture, “Hold The Light,” featured in Columbia Pictures and Black Label Media’s Only The Brave embodies the spirit of the true heroism behind the firefighters depicted in the film. Bentley has also put the spotlight on local Nashville non-profit organizations such as Safe Haven Family Shelter, as his raw music video for “Riser” magnified a true story and the struggles of a formerly homeless mother.

The Tom Rivers Humanitarian Award is given at the discretion of the Country Radio Broadcasters Board of Directors to recognize an individual in the Country Radio industry who has displayed a magnanimous spirit of caring and generosity in service to their community. This award is named in honor of CRB Board member Tom Rivers, who died in 2004 at age 38 of bronchial asthma. Rivers, known for his work at WQYK, Tampa/St. Petersburg and WUSN, Chicago, was highly regarded for his public service.

Dan Halyburton has dedicated countless hours to the Red Cross as a communication specialist. When a disaster strikes, Halyburton offers valuable communication leadership to those in need. In these chaotic circumstances, he uses his decades of expertise and his passion for helping others to provide clear, concise, reliable instructions and communication that is vital in these situations. His assistance in helping those who have been impacted by natural disasters has been crucial in these last few months for those dealing with hurricane aftermath.

Country Radio Seminar 2018 will be held Monday, February 5, 2018 through Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the luxurious Omni Nashville, in the heart of downtown Nashville. Panels at CRS cover a broad range of topics relevant to today’s Country radio industry, including social media and digital innovations, PPM, brand strategies, leadership skills, consumer research studies, the relationships and economics of the radio and record industries and much more. On June 25, CMA and live concert television series “Front and Center” filmed two episodes celebrating the 10th anniversary of the CMA Songwriters Series, featuring CMA Award winners Dierks Bentley and Lady Antebellum onstage in intimate acoustic settings.

The Bentley performance will be made available to public television stations on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Songwriters Jim Beavers, Ross Copperman, Brett James and Jon Randall join him onstage in this one-hour broadcast.

Lady Antebellum showcases its hits, previews tracks from its fifth album 747, shares personal stories and anecdotes and invites songwriters Rodney Clawson, Tom Douglas, Josh Kear, Luke Laird and Abe Stoklasa to share the stage. This one-hour installment will be made available to public television stations on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

“Country Music is a genre based on the foundation of great songs,” said CMA CEO Sarah Trahern in New York City during a Sept. 3 press conference to reveal the final nominees for the 2014 CMA Awards. “Announcing the ‘Front and Center’ shows the same time we are recognizing our CMA Awards-nominated songwriters for the CMA Song of the Year was a natural fit and a great way to build excitement leading up to the Awards broadcast on Nov. 5.”

“We were privileged to be able to work with as prestigious an organization as CMA, to bring these compelling shows with Dierks and Lady Antebellum to public television,” said Don Maggi, Executive Producer, “Front and Center.” “They were truly special shows that we hope have laid the groundwork for future programming with CMA.”

“With its new CMA partnership, ’Front and Center‘ becomes an outlet for the true backbone of Country Music — the songs and the people who wrote them — to be laid bare,” noted Rolling Stone Country.

Dierks Bentley‘s father Leon Bentley died Friday (June 1) in Phoenix. The singer-songwriter confirmed the death in a Twitter message he sent Saturday morning, noting, “It was an honor to comfort him as he left us. Thank you, fans, for the time and understanding.” A private memorial service is being scheduled. Because of his father’s illness, Bentley had already canceled a Saturday night performance in Washington, D.C., following the Washington Nationals’ baseball game.

Following his father’s death, he also canceled Wednesday’s fan club party in Nashville during the CMA Music Festival.
