AXS TV is pleased to announce that the Brandon Jenner-hosted new music competition series BANDED is joining the network's lineup starting Saturday, May 13 at 9pE. And for viewers in Canada, it will air on GameTV on July 8.

AXS TV—a subsidiary of Anthem Sports & Entertainment, Inc.—puts the spotlight on rising stars from across the country in the all-new original music competition BANDED, an innovative series that redefines the traditional “build-a-band” concept and showcases exceptional up-and-coming artists who can play, write, and sing. BANDED episodes will premiere each week on AXS TV starting Saturday, May 13 at 9 p.m. ET. The series also will roll out weekly across all of AXS TV’s digital channels starting Friday, May 12.

BANDED is hosted by musician and television personality Brandon Jenner, with recording artist and American Idol finalist Didi Benami as co-host.

In the series premiere, 25 contenders will be placed into five brand new multi-genre bands under the tutelage of GRAMMY®-winning and -nominated songwriters, producers, and artists such as Songwriters Hall of Fame honoree Wendy Starland, credited with discovering and developing Lady Gaga; as well as Paul Ebersold, Steve Diamond, Justin Wilson, and Dave Pahanish.

Each week will feature a roster of legendary mentors and guest judges from across the music spectrum, such as Metal icons Vince Neil and Kip Winger; chart-topping Country star Steve Azar; Vans Warped Tour mastermind Kevin Lyman; and world-class rock ‘n roll drummer Mark Schulman, among many others.

The inaugural season presents eight all-new episodes, with six hour-long episodes bookended by the 90-minute season premiere and season finale. A special video podcast will accompany each episode, as BANDED contestants and stars breakdown all the latest happenings from the show.

“We are extremely pleased to announce our partnership with AXS TV in launching the inaugural season of BANDED,” said Nico Albano, Executive Producer of the series. “AXS TV’s national and digital platforms are incredibly robust, giving viewers multiple ways to conveniently enjoy our content. We hope that this will be the beginning of a long-lasting relationship between AXS TV and BANDED, and we look forward to continuing to work with them as we move forward into the future.”

“BANDED is the perfect complement to our growing lineup of all-new original music-themed programming, putting a fresh spin on the standard music competition format that brings viewers into the fascinating creative process that each band undertakes,” said Katie Daryl, AXS TV’s Vice President of Programming. “We have some truly talented competitors and world-class mentors onboard, and we cannot wait to share all of this and more with our audience when BANDED premieres on AXS TV’s platforms next month.”

DOLLY PARTON OPENS UP ABOUT THE HISTORY BEHIND HER HIT SINGLE "I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU" ON "BRIAN JOHNSON'S A LIFE ON THE ROAD" NOVEMBER 10 ON AXS TV

Brian Johnson heads to the country music capital of the world, Nashville, TN, to talk with genre trailblazer Dolly Parton on an all-new episode of AXS TV’s globetrotting music series Brian Johnson’s A Life On The Road—airing Sunday, November 10 at 9:00 pm ET.

In this exclusive first-look, Parton sheds some light on the history behind her enduring hit single “I Will Always Love You”— which Parton wrote following a heated fight with her longtime professional partner and mentor, the late Country icon Porter Wagoner. “I went home with a heavy heart, and I wrote ‘I Will Always Love You’,” Parton explains. “I went back to Porter and said, ‘You won’t listen to what I’m saying, please sit down and listen to this song.’ He started to listen to it and I started playing it with my guitar, and he started to cry. He said, ‘Ok, you can go, if I can produce that song.’” The single ultimately made its way to the top of the Country charts, and attracted the attention of the The King himself, Elvis Presley, who wanted to record it.

Unfortunately, the cost would be too great for Parton, who would have been forced to concede half of the publishing rights to Presley’s team. “I grieved over that,” she continues. “I just cried my heart out, ‘cause I was just picturing Elvis singing that. Can you imagine?” The decision would prove to be the correct one, however, after the single was turned into an international sensation by one of music’s most powerful voices. Parton concludes, “After Whitney Houston recorded it, I was so glad I kept the full publishing! I wrote ‘Jolene’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’ the same night, and I thought, ‘Buddy, that was a good night!’”

Brian Johnson’s A Life On The Road airs every Sunday at 9:00pm ET only on AXS TV.

Highlights Include Performances by Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, Margo Price, Brothers Osborne, & More

Additionally, a Block of Classic Concerts & Candid Sit-Downs with Farm Aid Organizers Nelson, Mellencamp, Matthews, & Young Start Earlier in the Day at 9AE on AXS TV

Musical icon Willie Nelson’s groundbreaking festival for a cause Farm Aid returns to AXS TV, as the network presents a special live broadcast of Farm Aid 2019 on Saturday, September 21, from 7:30pm to 12:30am ET. This unforgettable five-hour event marks the sixth consecutive year that AXS TV will air Farm Aid, and the fifth year that the network will air the festival live.

(Editor’s Note: The 2019 broadcast will immediately repeat after its initial airing.)

Now in its 34th year, Farm Aid comes to the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin, for the first time in the festival’s history, as some of music’s biggest names take the stage to raise awareness for America’s family farmers. Farm Aid’s festival to rally public support is especially critical now as farmers face another year of farm income slashed by half, which has caused a farm crisis similar to the one that sparked Farm Aid’s start in 1985. The Farm Aid 2019 lineup puts the spotlight on an eclectic blend of iconic trailblazers and modern favorites, headlined by GRAMMY-winning superstar and Farm Aid founder Willie Nelson. Other highlights include Nelson’s fellow board members John Mellencamp, Neil Young, and Dave Matthews (performing with Tim Reynolds), as well as Margo Price, Tanya Tucker, Luke Combs, Brothers Osborne, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real and Yola, among others.

As part of this landmark broadcast, AXS TV has compiled a block of candid conversations and classic concerts celebrating Farm Aid mainstays Nelson, Young, Mellencamp, and Matthews that will air earlier on Sept. 21. The day-long event opens at 9:00am ET, as John Mellencamp storms into the Windy City to share priceless stories and perform signature songs such as “Small Town,” “Pink Houses,” “Cherry Bomb,” and more in Plain Spoken: John Mellencamp. Next, at 10:30am ET, experience the best moments from the Dave Matthews Band’s 2005 set at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre, featuring enduring hits such as “Crash Into Me,” in the 2005 concert compilation Dave Matthews Band: Weekend On The Rocks. Then, at 11:30am ET, Willie Nelson sits down with Dan Rather to discuss the history and impact of Farm Aid, and the state of marijuana in America on The Big Interview, before blazing through an intimate career-spanning set that includes “Whiskey River,” “Trouble In Mind,” and “Just Because You Asked Me To,” in Willie Nelson: Soundstage at 12:30pm ET.

The day continues at 1:30pm ET, as Dan Rather joins Neil Young for a wide-ranging conversation covering his fight against corporations, his childhood bout with polio, and his own mortality; followed by an encore broadcast of Plain Spoken at 2:30pm ET. Then, at 4:00pm ET, John Mellencamp opens up about his acclaimed career, his passion for painting, and the current political landscape. The block comes to a close with encore presentations of Dave Matthews Band: Weekend On The Rocks at 5:00pm ET, and Willie Nelson: Soundstage at 6:00pm ET, leading into the live broadcast of Farm Aid 2019 at 7:30pm ET.

Other Highlights Include Conversations with Bryan Cranston, Bob Costas, Bret Michaels, Chicago, David Byrne, Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, Little Big Town & More

Brian Johnson Discusses ‘Hells Bells’ in First-Look Clip Below:

AXS TV’s popular sit-down series The Big Interview returns for the second-half of its seventh season, premiering Tuesday, October 1 at 8pE/5pP. The series’ fall cycle features 12 all-new 60-minute episodes, as host Dan Rather joins a roster of iconic entertainers for candid conversations providing a unique glimpse into their personal lives, defining moments, and incredible careers. The fall cycle kicks off with an in-depth discussion with Brian Johnson, AC/DC frontman and host of AXS TV’s globetrotting music series Brian Johnson: A Life On The Road.

In this exclusive first look, Johnson recalls getting writer’s block while working on AC/DC’s landmark “Back In Black” album in the Bahamas. Feeling completely out of ideas, Johnson sat down for breakfast with legendary producer Mutt Lange. As the pair spoke, a tropical storm rolled in—jolting Johnson’s creativity and planting the seeds for what would become one of AC/DC’s most enduring hits: “Hells Bells.” “Mutt went, ‘Oh, it’s rolling thunder!’ And I went, ‘Rolling thunder, pouring rain, coming on like a hurricane. There’s white lightning flashing,’” Johnson explains. “I mean I literally was giving a weather report.” Though they didn’t know it then, the song would go down as a signature piece for the band, helping secure their place as masters of rock. He continues, “When great things are happening so quickly, you never realize, do you? It’s so fabulous. It just looks so easy. When you try to do it again, it never works!”

Other highlights include appearances by power pop icons Cheap Trick (Oct. 8); legendary chart-toppers Chicago (Oct. 15); beloved heavy metal mainstay Bret Michaels (Oct. 22); the ‘Godfather of Shock Rock’ Alice Cooper (Oct. 29); country music superstars Little Big Town (Nov. 5); celebrated sportscaster Bob Costas (Nov. 12); influential Talking Heads singer David Byrne (Nov. 19); folk rock heroes America (Nov. 26); Emmy-winning actor Bryan Cranston (Dec. 3); progressive rock pioneer Yes’ Jon Anderson (Dec. 10); and country music legends Alabama (Dec. 17).

“It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to speak with these entertainment icons each week,” Rather said. “It is a rare treat to be able to delve into a side of these artists that the public doesn’t often get to see, as they tell their stories and share their thoughts in their own words. I am humbled that the series has been so warmly received by AXS TV’s audience, and I look forward to showing our viewers what we’ve been working on in this upcoming fall cycle.”

“The first-half of this season of The Big Interview was one of the best yet, and AXS TV is proud to finish the year strong with 12 more insightful episodes when the series resumes its fall cycle,” said Lucia McCalmont, Vice President of Programming and Scheduling, AXS TV. “The second-half of season seven features an eclectic guest list highlighting top talent from the realms of music, movies, and sports, and offering something for everyone to enjoy. Dan Rather’s ability to get these superstars to open up about their achievements, challenges, and legacies has really resonated with our viewers, and we look forward to providing them with even more of the high quality discussions they’ve come to expect when The Big Interview returns on October 1.”

TRAVIS TRITT UNLEASHES CAREER-SPANNING SET OF ENDURING CLASSICS IN THE PREMIERE OF "TRAVIS TRITT: HOMEGROWN" AIRING SUNDAY, JUNE 2, AT 9:00 PM ET

Tritt Also Opens Up about His Life and Legacy in Music on an All-New Episode of The Big Interview with Dan Rather, Airing Tuesday, June 4 at 8 p.m. ET

Get ready for a double dose of “T-R-O-U-B-L-E,” as AXS TV puts the spotlight on GRAMMY-winning Country star Travis Tritt with the premiere of the unforgettable concert event Travis Tritt: Homegrown on Sunday, June 2 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT; followed by Tritt’s candid conversation with Dan Rather in an all-new episode of The Big Interview on Tuesday, June 4 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Filmed live last year at Bell Auditorium in Augusta, Georgia, Travis Tritt: Homegrown finds the beloved chart-topper performing in his home state and rocking to a packed house with some of his most enduring hits. During the night, Tritt entertains the audience with his thoughts on songwriting, his life-long respect for veterans, and his experience with the legendary Waylon Jennings, and delivers an impressive career-spanning set featuring a wide range of classics such as “Put Some Drive In Your Country,” “I’m Gonna Be Somebody,” “Whisky On Ice,” “Country Club,” “Here’s A Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares),” “T-R-O-U-B-L-E,” and “Lonesome, On’ry And Mean,” among many others. Tritt sings “It’s a Great Day to be Alive,” in the first-look clip below:

Then, on June 4, Dan Rather catches up with Tritt at the world-famous Country Music Hall Of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee, where the Outlaw Country hero opens up about his favorite artists, his faith, his introduction to singing, his friendship with fellow icon Marty Stuart, and what sets Country apart from other genres. In this exclusive preview, Tritt talks about his life’s proudest accomplishment—becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry—and reveals why he never thought he’d get in. “I looked different than all the rest of the guys,” Tritt says. “They were clean cut… They starched and pressed their blue jeans… Meanwhile I was wearin' a lotta leather. I had hair down to here… and I was very heavily influenced by Blues as a kid. When I tried to bring that extra stuff in… I got a lotta pushback from the Nashville establishment.

One particular area of criticism revolved around his distinct lack of a cowboy hat. On his decision to forego the Country staple, Tritt explains, “I was tryin' to set myself apart. Second reason, and the more practical, was I had all this hair back then… I was not tryin' to make any kind of statements against cowboy hats.” Tritt’s style choice even caught the attention of the great Waylon Jennings, who famously aired his opinion on the matter in the pair’s duet “Old Outlaws Like Us.” As Tritt recalls, “At the very end of it, as the song was trailin' off, Waylon says in a clear voice, ‘Travis, you may be the best. But I think you need a hat.’” Watch it here in this first-look clip.

TOBY KEITH DISCUSSES HIS BUSINESS VENTURES, SUPPORT FOR THE MILITARY, AND HIS STRONG WORK ETHIC ON THE BIG INTERVIEW, AIRING OCTOBER 16

The “Big Dog Daddy” rolls into the “Trailerhood” as Country icon Toby Keith sits down with Dan Rather in an all-new episode of The Big Interview on Tuesday, October 16 at 9:00 pm ET. As he prepares to celebrate the 25TH Anniversary of his signature first single “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” from his self-titled 1993 debut album—which is being re-released by Universal with a new music video and three all-new tracks—Keith joins Dan to reflect on his life and legacy as one of Country’s most beloved artists.

During the episode, Keith discusses his highly successful business ventures ranging from the popular Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill restaurant chain, to the Wild Shot Mezcal tequila company, as well as staking a claim in the Big Machine record label, which represents some of Country’s biggest names including Taylor Swift. His work ethic is second to none, and he attributes this to a childhood spent on the oilrigs in Oklahoma, where his father worked for much of his life. Additionally, Keith reflects on his deep love for the military, and performing over 200 shows for the USO; opens up about his charity, the OK Kids Korral, which helps children with cancer; gets candid about his independent political views; and shares a high-spirited tale of smoking with Willie Nelson on a tour bus during an unforgettable night in Las Vegas.

In this exclusive look at the upcoming episode, Keith talks about life on tour and the love he feels being out on the road with his band and his crew, comparing the lively atmosphere to “a big party” that he could do “year-round.” While every show is a party now, it took a lot of hard work to get there, fueled by an unstoppable ambition that drove the megastar to outwork everyone else. “I didn’t take many vacations the first 20 years of my adult life, because my head was on the line,” he explains. “When I came out and my song hit, I was doing 28, 29 shows a month because I didn’t know I was gonna get a second hit let alone an 85TH hit.” It wasn’t until he had achieved sustained success that Keith allowed himself some downtime to enjoy the fruits of his labor, as he charmingly recalls, “After about 15 years, my family finally went, ‘Hey, are we ever gonna go to DisneyWorld?’”

In an era where many female performers feel pressure to incorporate their sexuality into their music, Crow asks them to consider one question: “Do you feel more empowered by using your body to draw attention to your Art, or do you feel more empowered by wielding a talent that moves the molecules?’” Expanding on the responsibility she believes these performers have to the young fans who look to them as role models, Crow continues, “Are you handing down [that] this is what power looks like? Are you telling boys this is what a powerful woman looks like? To me, I say no.”

The episode originally aired on September 30, 2013. (“The Big Interview” episode will have additional airings on Sat., April 9 at 9 a.m. ET and Sunday, April 10 at 8 a.m. ET.)

BIG & RICH BRING THEIR SOUTHERN STYLE TO "THE BIG INTERVIEW" ON AXS IN AN ALL-NEW EPISODE FEB. 16 AT 8PM ET

Beloved country stars John Rich and Big Kenny—better known as the smash hit duo Big & Rich—rock THE BIG INTERVIEW, in an all-new episode premiering Tuesday, February 16, at 8pm ET. During the candid hour-long sit-down, the award-winning twosome opens up about the trials and tribulations of creating their own label, their musical influences, the creation of the MuzikMafia and how to determine what qualifies as real country music. For the first time ever, the show is giving fans a sneak peek of the episode HERE before it airs in full.

Outlining how the production of their fifth album, 2014’s Gravity, led to the duo creating their own record label, John Rich says, “We recorded this record, Gravity, we were on Warner Brothers Records at the time… The label has no idea we’re even doing it, and we finish the thing and turn it in at Warner Brothers, and go, ‘Surprise! New Big & Rich record!’ And Warner Brothers goes, ‘That’s great! It’s gonna be at least a year before we can put something out, ‘cause we’ve already got our entire year planned out.’… I think Kenny put it best, he said, ‘Well, sometimes, creativity and commerce have to part ways’, and that’s exactly what happened.”

The duo were able get out of their contract and establish their own label, which has some benefits, says John. “The pros are we get to call all the shots, we get to determine what songs come out, when and how they come out. And we own the content,'cause that’s the big one. You own the masters, you own those recordings. But, what are you giving up? Well, you’re giving up the political muscle that the record label has.”

Kenny expounds on this, saying, “And you’re taking on the risk. Everything, you know, if you don’t perform it, you don’t make it happen, then it’s gonna come out of your own pocket. You’re completely at risk, but you also know that your own decisions are what’s gonna get you there.”

On the music that has influenced and inspired their own trademark brand of country, Rich says, “Kenny and I draw from all the way back to Johnny Horton, and Roger Miller, and Hank Sr., and Johnny Cash, and all those kinda guys, all the way up to modern acts like AC/DC.”

On the creation of their famed collective of artists, known as the MuzikMafia, Rich reveals, “There was a real segregation of genre at that point, here in Nashville. The big phrase was, ‘That ain’t country.’ If you’re an urban artist, you can’t write a country song. If you’re a country artist, you can’t write a rock n’ roll song… What they were forgetting is, if you go back to guys like Johnny Cash, he was a rock n’ roll act coming out of Memphis, singing about the most outrageous subjects… That was the beginning, the MuzikMafia disproving the myth that you had to segregate the creative sides.”

With the genre’s sound constantly evolving, many traditional fans and artists have begun questioning what can and cannot be called ‘country.’ Rich effectively puts an end to the debate, stating, “Some of the new country music out now is pushing it even further than we pushed it, and you’ll hear that come up again, ‘Well, that ain’t country.’ Well, you know who decides what’s country or not? The fans. And if the fans buy that record, and they heard it on the country station, and they go to that guy or girl’s show, guess what! That’s country. That’s where country music is right now.”

To see more of this entertaining episode, be sure to tune in to THE BIG INTERVIEW on Tuesday, February 16 at 8pm ET, only on AXS TV.

CONNIE BRITTON AND CHARLES ESTEN JOIN DAN RATHER IN THE AXS TV EXCLUSIVE ‘THE BIG INTERVIEW: NASHVILLE SPECIAL EDITION’ ON TUESDAY, SEPT. 22 AT 8pE

The Special Airs in Conjunction with the Network Premiere of the Hit Drama NASHVILLE on Saturday, Sept. 26, Featuring Three Back-To-Back Episodes Starting at 8pE

As Part of the Premiere Event, Episodes will Air with Limited Commercial Interruption for Four Weeks, Every Saturday from Sept. 26 through Oct. 17

AXS TV kicks off its countdown to the network premiere of NASHVILLE with an all-new episode of THE BIG INTERVIEW: NASHVILLE SPECIAL EDITION, hosted by legendary newsman Dan Rather and featuring series stars Connie Britton and Charles Esten. The exclusive event, set to air on Tuesday, September 22, at 8pE, premieres in advance of the AXS TV debut of the hit country music drama, launching on Saturday, September 26 at 8pE. Each week will feature three back-to-back episodes, with encore airings every Saturday evening at 11pE and Tuesday evenings at 9pE. As part of the premiere festivities, AXS TV will air the NASHVILLE episodes with limited commercial interruption for the first four Saturdays, from September 26 through October 17.

During the half-hour special, Rather visits the set of NASHVILLE, sitting down with Connie Britton and Charles Esten for a lively discussion spanning the first three seasons of the show, and giving viewers a sense of what they can expect going forward. In separate segments, Rather speaks with an enthusiastic Britton about what it’s like to play country music legend Rayna Jaymes, whom she describes as a strong businesswoman who has the wisdom and experience to thrive in the ever-changing music industry. Britton also touches on the show’s inspiring message, and opens up about what made her want to be a part of NASHVILLE. “I was so excited about the idea of this world,” said Britton. “I was also very excited about the idea of singing, which I hadn’t done in many years. I was actively seeking doing things that would challenge me and be different from what I had been doing before, and felt risky and felt a little scary. I decided that it would be kind of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and that’s how it happened.”

Sitting down with Charles Esten, Rather covers a variety of topics including the show’s tremendous authenticity, and the way his role allows him to work within his two passions—acting and music. On why he enjoys playing his character, the troubled Deacon Claybourne, Esten says, “He's nobody's hero, because he fails constantly. And what he does is he just keeps pickin' himself back up and tryin' to be a better man the next day. Tryin' to be who he thinks he could be.” Esten feels a responsibility not only to the character, but to the show’s loyal audience, who have developed a strong connection to Deacon and his struggles, explaining, “They're not just plot points for people. They're what people are living. So it raises a desire in you to really do it justice.” The candid conversation also touches upon Esten’s personal life, his dedicated charity work, and his daughter’s battle with leukemia that he credits with helping him to put the truly important things in life into perspective. Esten also sings a few heartfelt bars of his favorite song from the show—the moving ballad, “A Life That’s Good,” co-written by country phenom Ashley Monroe.

Set in the heart of Music City, NASHVILLE follows the lives of a group of recording artists dealing with the highs and lows of making it in the cutthroat music industry. Britton stars as Rayna Jaymes—an industry icon fighting to stay on top as a new generation of stars, led by Hayden Panettiere’s talented and troubled songstress Juliette Barnes, light up the charts. In addition to its dramatic storylines and memorable performances, NASHVILLE has attracted a wide array of guest appearances from some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Christina Aguilera, Florida Georgia Line, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Brad Paisley, Luke Bryan, Wyclef Jean, Katie Couric, and Conan O’Brien, just to name a few. AXS TV acquired the exclusive primetime cable rights to the first three seasons of NASHVILLE in June, after reaching a multi-year licensing agreement with the Disney-ABC Television Group.

“THE BIG INTERVIEW: NASHVILLE SPECIAL EDITION is the perfect primer for AXS TV’s NASHVILLE premiere event,” said Michele M. Dix, AXS TV’s senior vice president, programming and development. “Whether viewers are visiting NASHVILLE for the first time, or just want to relive the intense drama and show-stopping musical numbers, they won’t want to miss this exclusive backstage pass as Dan Rather gives them an intimate look at one of the most captivating series on television, led by two of its biggest stars.”

NASHVILLE is produced by Lionsgate, ABC Studios and Opry Entertainment. Dee Johnson (“Boss,” “The Good Wife”), Callie Khouri (“Thelma & Louise”) and Steve Buchanan are executive producers of the series.
