JOHN RICH, LONESTAR, ALL-4-ONE, GATLIN BROTHERS AND MORE
AVAILABLE FRIDAY, MAY 22, 2020

10 Tracks Co-written By TAPS Military Families And Notable Songwriters
Proceeds To Benefit TAPS And Its Families

Roots & American Music Society (RAMS), a not-for-profit record label based in Memphis, Tennessee, has teamed with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) to orchestrate and create a meaningful recording project titled LOVE LIVES ON.

The combined creative endeavor aligned TAPS military families, who have endured the loss of a loved one, with some of the music industry’s most gifted and renowned songwriters to pen the family members’ intimate and personal stories in music and song.

Featuring special guest vocal performances by award-winning recording artists Vince Gill, Billy Ray Cyrus, John Rich, All-4-One, Lonestar, Gatlin Brothers and more, complemented by A-list studio and touring musicianship [including Vinnie Colaiuta, Eric Darken, Dann Huff,  David Hungate (Toto) and David Pack (Ambrosia) among many others], the 10-track collaboration will be available via all major digital retail and streaming outlets (Amazon/iTunes/Pandora/Spotify/Tidal) on Friday, May 22, 2020.*

The LOVE LIVES ON pre-sale event begins Friday, April 3, 2020.

Produced by Frank Myers (Richie McDonald/Kenny Loggins/Michael Burrows/Eddy Raven/Andy Griggs) and Jimmy Nichols (Reba/Faith Hill/Andy Griggs/Mindy McCready), the inspiration behind the project was spawned by TAPS Founder and President, Bonnie Carroll who lost her husband, Brig. Gen. Thomas C. Carroll, a lifelong Alaskan and commander of the Alaska Army National Guard, in a military plane crash along with seven other soldiers. The embracing musical dedication offers intimate insight from the survivors’ perspective, life experiences and their courageous journey to live on.

The title track, “Love Lives On,” slated for a March 20, 2020 digital and streaming release, is signatured by Richie McDonald (Lonestar), who performs lead vocals, with a special appearance by Grammy®-winning artist Vince Gill. Symbolic of the entire project, the tune shares hope as a “light at the end of the tunnel” for those who carry the burden of grief.

Other tracks are as similarly touching and emotional. The tune “K9 Brother” (performed by Andy Griggs) recalls the relation, dedication and loyalty between two heroic soldiers, “Joshua 1:9” (Dave Fenley) and “People Need To Know” (The Gatlin Brothers/Paul Overstreet) depict fun-loving, youthful and brave character; while the tunes “Isn’t It Amazing” (All-4-One) and “New Set Of Wings” (Pam Tillis) offer an uplifting, spiritual sentiment heightened by spine-chilling harmonies.

“The entire project…with these incredible artists, gifted songwriters and beautiful families, is our chance to tell the story of service and sacrifice in our military, and among our military families,” said Bonnie Carroll, TAPS Founder and President. “I am so very proud of, and grateful for, all those who offered their hand, talent and heart to bring it to life.”

“My very first performance for TAPS was one of the most moving and rewarding experiences of my career; I immediately felt compelled to share the organization's passion,” added co-producer Jimmy Nichols. “My hope is that this project helps make that happen—that the TAPS' mission is on the minds, lips and in the hearts of folks across the country. For all those we’ve lost, and for those who have suffered for our freedom, we dedicate this magical musical tribute to you."

“Our hope with LOVE LIVES ON was to create a meaningful avenue to share the stories of military heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice as seen through the eyes of the beautiful people who knew them well--their families and battle buddies,” said Steve Dunavant, Roots & American Music Society. “What we experienced in making this album was spiritual, humbling and life-changing. These 10 inspirational songs truly capture the passion of our encounter, the intimacy and courage of the TAPS family members, and are a testament to the aspirational message that ‘love lives on.’  When you hear them, we believe you will feel the same way.”

BILLY RAY CYRUS CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF "ACHY BREAKY HEART" WITH REISSUE

It started out as a simple two-chord song with one verse and chorus, and ended up becoming a worldwide phenomenon that topped charts around the globe and made a superstar out of a boy from Flatwoods, Kentucky. “Achy Breaky Heart,” the multi-million selling country single that pretty much launched the 90’s line dance craze, is undoubtedly one of the most history-making songs in all of country music history. The song created a sensation upon its release 25 years ago, and now the artist who made it a smash, Billy Ray Cyrus, is releasing a brand new version of the song with a host of different versions and guest artist appearances, including Ronnie Milsap on keyboard, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the release of the original. The new cut was recorded in Muscle Shoals and co-produced by Cyrus and Don Von Tress, the writer of the quintessential hit.

Cyrus sees plenty of parallels in the world at that time and now, and felt like it would be a good time to go back in and re-record the feel-good smash that had everybody’s hips shaking and feet moving to its groove.

“When the song was released in the spring of ‘92 the world, believe it or not, felt much like it does right now,” said Cyrus. “There were wars and rumors of wars. Famine and darkness was revealing itself much around the globe. People were divided. And politically it felt as crazy across America as it does now. Basically, it felt like a good time for a happy song. Something simple that everyone could sing and yes, even dance to. Take your mind off all the heavy stuff for 3 minutes and 27 seconds!”

The new version of “Achy Breaky” is actually a little closer to writer Don Von Tress’ original vision and sound for the song that he penned over a quarter decade ago. “We went back to my original demo which was a little more back in the pocket, and Billy really loved the demo all those years ago and he said ‘Yeah, let’s try to emulate this thing,” recalls Von Tress of recording the new version. “So we kind of did that, but with some new twists. The song is so simple...it’s two chords and some nursery rhyme verses really, so we created something again we both just really love, and it’s just fun to have the opportunity to put this song out again for people to really enjoy again. I really hope they love it as much as the first time!”

For Cyrus, revisiting the hit that made him a worldwide superstar and laying down the track provided a real full circle moment in a career that has no doubt had plenty of memorable highlights.

“For me personally it completed the body of work known as Some Gave All and a decade of persistence, dedication, failure, successes and a will to strive for purpose through the music,” said Cyrus. “A journey which led to a moment in time that just fit. Not to mention a friendship and musical soul mate that would last a lifetime. For you see, I had written "Some Gave All" about a Vietnam Veteran I met in 1989. Don Von Tress, himself a Vietnam Vet, walks into my life with what will become the cornerstone and launch pad for an album that represents a singer/songwriter from the Appalachian foothills of Eastern KY who had a dream and vision of touching peoples’ lives through music. Nothing more...nothing less. Full circle if you will.”

BILLY RAY CYRUS PREMIERES "THIN LINE" VIDEO FEATURING SHELBY LYNNE

Billy Ray Cyrus is back with a new video, “Thin Line”, the title track from his latest album release that he describes as a "balance between art and reality." The clip was shot entirely on Cyrus’ expansive property in Middle Tenn. by director Blake Judd (Black Stone Cherry, Shooter Jennings, Thomas Rhett) and exposes faith, passion, and the power of music through Cyrus’ perspective. The music video offers viewers a peek into Cyrus’ southern home as he wanders through the spaces that flood with memories and the prized possessions in which inspire him—including a handwritten note from Johnny Cash in 1992.

Billy Ray Cyrus’ new single, “The Distance”, isn’t like any of his previous music. Fans expecting another “Achy Breaky Heart” or “Some Gave All” will be sorely disappointed. But that’s to be expected and is understood. 20 years after your biggest hit to date, your musical style is likely to change. Especially in country music where people strive for story-telling in their music, and attempt to share their lives with you, it’s completely understandable that an entire lifetime later, the music won’t sound the same. In this time span of 20 years, a family, a musical career, and an acting career started and flourished.

I find his voice doesn’t contain the same twang, but has grown into a different sound entirely. The background guitar and drums also reveal a far more mellow sound than what I have come to expect from Billy Ray. For fans that aren’t as attached to their previous experience with him, or newer fans that aren’t familiar with his music or are wanting something new, it may speak to them. As this is the title track off his new "Best Of" album, it will be interesting to see what other singles follow. I hope to hear more from Billy Ray and I hope that he regains a foothold in the country music world, but I also hope that he returns to his roots and offers a more traditional sound.

BILLY RAY CYRUS PREMIERE: "HOPE IS JUST AHEAD FEATURING DIONNE WARWICK ON USA TODAY; SONG T O IMPACT COUNTRY RADIO ON MONDAY FEBRUARY 3

PRESS RELEASE

USATODAY.com has world-premiered “Hope Is Just Ahead,” the new video from the multi-GRAMMY-nominated and award-winning country and rock musician-singer-songwriter BILLY RAY CYRUS. The uplifting song features the GRAMMY-winning legendary vocalist Dionne Warwick. Recorded at Jamie Foxx’s studio in Los Angeles, “Hope Is Just Ahead” will impact radio on Monday, February 3, 2014. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of “Hope Is Just Ahead” will be donated to “Do The Write Thing-National Campaign to Stop Violence” (http://www.dtwt.org/about-dtwt).

“As a singer-songwriter I've always tried to capture the truth and honesty of life. Sometimes it's that moment of truth that becomes far too real and reveals the sacrifice that has been made,” explains Cyrus. “This song is about change. It's about looking at our past mistakes and learning from them as a society. More than anything ...it's about ‘Hope’ and a better tomorrow...if we will only allow ourselves to believe.”

“’Hope Is Just Ahead.’ What a title, what lyrics, what meaning. I am so proud of the fact that I was asked to do this as a duet with Billy Ray,” adds Dionne Warwick. “‘Hope Is Just Ahead’ is saying everything most of the songs I have recorded in the past fifty years have said. It’s a song of hope, inspiration, love, compassion, sharing, caring, and giving. These things make the world go round. I certainly hope that people listen to the lyrics of this song and that they’ll be inspired to do what this song is saying to do and know hope is just ahead.”

BILLY RAY CYRUS SET TO RELEASE 13TH STUDIO ALBUM CHANGE MY MIND OCTOBER 23

Single “Change My Mind” Available Now

Billy Ray Cyrus album cover

Nashville, TN – (October 3, 2012) – Multi-platinum recording artist Billy Ray Cyrus is set to change minds with the international release of his 13th studio album titled Change My Mind on October 23, 2012. The title track and first single is now available at iTunes and other digital retail sites. The music video can be seen on Great American Country (GAC) and CMT Pure. With Change My Mind, Cyrus delivers a stellar collection of ten songs that hearken back to his roots in bluegrass, Southern rock, gospel, and country music.

Recorded in Los Angeles over three months with GRAMMY nominated, multi award-winning producer Brandon Friesen, Change My Mind finds Cyrus coming full circle musically from the days when he made his living performing in the smoky bars of the Ohio River Valley. The album has that loose, honky-tonk feel of bar band music, but is performed by a group of world-class musicians, including in-demand session drummer Kenny Aronoff, bassist Dusty Wakeman, and guitarists Leroy Powell, John West, Dominic Cifarelli, and Nelson Blanton. Change My Mind showcases Cyrus’ smoldering, swaggering voice, as well as his unforgettable melodies and candid lyrics that offer up a window into his life.

“My songs come to me when I’m dealing with heavy stuff,” Cyrus says. “If I’m going through something emotional, the songs pour out of me. It’s the only way I know how to express myself. I have lived through every emotion on every one of these songs. I’d just write it all down and tell myself, ‘Lean into the music.’”
