BRETT KISSEL EARNS 2021 JUNO AWARD SINGLE OF THE YEAR NOMINATION WITH "DRINK ABOUT ME"

The First Country Song Nominated in the Category in a Decade
Earns the 2-time JUNO Award-Winner his Fifth Career Nomination

One of Country music’s fastest rising stars, Brett Kissel, has picked up a Juno nomination for his song "Drink About Me'' in the Single of the Year category. “Drink About Me” is the first country song nominated for this prestigious award in a decade. Kissel joins an elite group of talent in the category that includes Justin Bieber (“Intentions” [feat. Quavo]), The Weeknd (“Blinding Lights”), JP Saxe (“If The World Was Ending” [feat. Julia Michaels]), and Lennon Stella (“Kissing Other People”).

A Juno Award is considered the top musical honor in Canada, comparable to the U.S. GRAMMY. This marks Kissel’s fifth career nomination for a Juno Award with two trophies won for Country Album of the Year for his album, We Were That Song and Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2014. Released in Sept. of 2019,” Drink About Me” reached the top of the charts in Feb. 2020, making it Kissel’s second #1 hit at Canadian Country radio. The 50th JUNO Awards will broadcast from Toronto on May 16 and air across all CBC's platforms.

Kissel launched his stateside career in the Fall of 2019 with the release of "Drink About Me." The song's music video featured Bachelor Nation fan favorites Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick (view here). The video premiered on Entertainment Tonight and garnered attention from PEOPLE Magazine, OK! Magazine, Bustle, E! News, and many more outlets. The music video received significant airplay on CMT Music and since its release, it has garnered over 35 million streams.

The 18-time Canadian Country Music (CCMA) award-winning musician recently announced his upcoming album release, What is Life? On April 9. Kissel gives fans a first taste of the album with a new single, “Make A Life, Not A Living,” now available. While fans were still buzzing about last year’s Now Or Never album, Brett started looking towards his next release, but couldn’t get three words out of his head – What Is Life? The search for something “more” weighed heavily on the country star’s mind, and with the new album, Brett Kissel invites fans to take a deep-dive with him into songs about love, celebration, and gratitude.

Brett Kissel is on Warner Music Canada and has had tremendous success in his home country. His charismatic personality, energetic stage presence, and music style have propelled him to the top of the Canadian Country music charts, with two Gold-certified albums, a Platinum and eight Gold singles, and 15 top-10 radio hits to his credit. 2019-2020 was a storybook year for Brett, winning the JUNO Award (equivalent to the American Grammy) for Country Album of the Year and earning the Canadian Country Music Association's Fans' Choice Award, following a record-breaking 112-date tour that reached every single province and territory.

BRETT KISSEL SET TO KICK OFF 2020 WITH RELEASE OF NEW ALBUM, "NOW OR NEVER"

Just months after his stateside debut with the release of “Drink About Me,” award-winning Country artist Brett Kissel is preparing to ring in the New Year with what he marks as the most exciting body of work he has ever created. His new album, Now Or Never, will be available worldwide on Jan. 1, 2020.

Kissel commented, “New songs and a new direction. That was the goal. Often, a ‘new direction’ means straying from the original path. Some songs we kept on the path I’ve always walked. Some songs took me in the direction of my roots. Some songs took me in a new direction into uncharted waters. This album will have something for everybody.”

The Canadian superstar launched in the U.S. this Fall with the release of the first single from his new album, "Drink About Me." The song was released in tandem with a music video that features Bachelor Nation fan favorites Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick (view below). The video premiered on Entertainment Tonight and garnered attention from PEOPLE Magazine, OK! Magazine, Bustle, E! News, Access Hollywood, US Weekly, among many others. The music video has received significant airplay on CMT Music, and the song garnered over 2.5 million streams within the first month of release. The track has also been featured across editorial playlists including, Spotify’s New Boots, Wild Country, Breakout Country, and New Music Nashville, Apple Music’s Breaking Country, Future Hits, and Light My Fire and Amazon Music’s Fresh Country.

Following the success of his first release stateside, Kissel is looking forward to releasing a full-length project in the U.S, which he has poured his heart and soul into. Now Or Never is representative of this time in Brett's life as he balances his career as one of the top acts on the Canadian Country music scene while working to establish himself as an artist in the United States. “This album symbolizes where I’m at in my life right now. It’s time to risk it all. It’s time to raise the bar. I’m not waiting for tomorrow,” Commented Kissel.

Produced by Bart McKay, Jacob Durret and Brett Kissel, Now Or Never breaks new territory for Kissel with upbeat Pop-Country tracks such as “She Drives Me Crazy” to stripped-down heartfelt tracks such as “Coffee With Her,” which Kissel drew inspiration from the infamous Johnny Cash quote, “This morning, with her, having coffee” (when asked his description of paradise). It is clear that Kissel is heavily influenced by his loved ones as he continues to give fans and listeners an inside look into his life through his music. “My wife and my kids are the lifeblood of everything I do. The “C” tattooed on my hand for Cecilia, and the three birth dates on my arm mean everything to me. This album is for them, and it’s something I hope they can look back on with pride when they’re older,” added Kissel.

The artist has big plans for 2020, which will include tour dates in the U.S., the release of more singles and music videos, and exciting collaborations. Kissel commented, “People have asked, and I know they will continue to inquire about what’s different this time around. For me, everything is. The process, the mindset, and mostly my confidence. All in all, I just wanted to destroy the box of what I thought was possible for a Country record, and I am so excited for what’s to come.”

Now Or Never Track Listing:

“Drink About Me”
“A Few Good Stories”
“That’s Country Music”
“Young Enough”
“Drives Me Crazy”
“Hummingbird”
“I’m Not Him, I’m Not Her” (Feat. Christina Taylor)

BRETT KISSEL WINS BIG ...

Canadian Country vocalist Brett Kissel was awarded the coveted Juno award for Country Album of the Year for his album, We Were That Song. Presented by The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the awards took place in London, Ontario on Sunday, March 17. This is the second Juno win for Kissel, who won in 2014 for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. He was the first country artist to take home the title in 17 years (since Shania Twain).

The 2019 Juno Awards capped off an amazing weekend for the country singer. Just a few days prior to Kissel winning the Juno, he was awarded a Gold record for his smash single “Anthem” (his seventh Gold record) and a “Double Road to Gold” plaque by CIMA, where he was one of the few artists to qualify in the 12-month eligibility period, for his massive 2018 “We Were That Song” tour that saw him perform over 110 dates in every province and territory in Canada.

“What an amazing weekend,” commented a jubilant Kissel. “I’ve worked so hard this past year and put so many miles on the tour bus. It’s wonderful to have this recognition from the industry and fans.”

Among his other accolades are he was named the International Artist of the Year at the 2017 Worldwide Radio Summit in Hollywood, CA (an honor bestowed upon Ed Sheeran and Adele in the last two years respectively). He is the 2017 and 2018 Canadian Country Music Awards’ Male Vocalist of the Year, 4x Winner at the 2016 CCMA Awards, 12x Billboard Canadian Top 10 Singles chart, and more.

Kissel wrapped up 2018 by being the most played Canadian artist at Canadian country radio, the most consumed male Canadian country artist (sales, downloads, streams), and had the most comprehensive tour in Canadian history, which included multiple shows in major markets across Canada.

The 2019 Juno Awards took place at Budweiser Gardens arena in London, Ontario and was televised live nationally on CBC. The Juno Awards are presented annually to Canadian musical artists and bands to acknowledge their artistic and technical achievements in all aspects of music and are seen as the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards.
