The mid-summer southern temperatures may have had a little something to do with it, but it was The R.T. Johnson Band and Cash Creek responsible for the hottest Friday night in Washington, NC at The Market Street Pub.

The Market Street Pub is a small, unassuming neighborhood bar a few blocks from the beautiful and  historic Washington, NC waterfront. It's a great place for friends to meet and strangers to become friends all while grabbing a cold drink and listening to some great music. I love this place and don't mind making the 2 hour drive and spending the money for a hotel room to see artists play here. It's places like that that remind me why I'd much rather spend my money and time at a smaller venue than any high dollar, mega-seat venue where you have to watch the show on a big screen from a distance unless you pay out the wazoo for an overpriced pit ticket. Here, the bands are more laid back, more engaging and honestly, I think more genuine. They are able to interact on a personal basis with those who came to see them, even share a beer or two and that to me makes a world of difference. The drinks are more than reasonably priced and the staff is great, they are always friendly and that attitude turns many first time visitors into friends and repeat customers. The stage is a perfect size, not too big and not too small, with great lighting and the sound is always on point.

Cash Creek kicked off the night opening for local favorites, The R.T. Johnson Band. If you haven't seen this band, do yourself a favor and make time to go see them if they're in your area. I'm not gonna gush (and trust me I could) but I am gonna put it out there how much I truly appreciate them and their music. These guys define talent, good music, and they're such great people. From the first song I ever listened to, "She Got Me", they got me.

Kimo, Monty, and James have all done the big stages, big venues and big crowds for years as touring musicians for such artists as Alabama, John Michael Montgomery, Brad Paisley and others. They get it. They know what it takes to win a crowd and there isn't a single bit of ego in the room. These guys aren't looking to be "the next big thing" or "the next sensation", they just love what they do and they want to create good music that really connects and resonates with people and if a song turns into a hit,  that's great, and  if not, then they just keep writing and releasing songs because each one is always a "hit" with someone. Their songs are fun, some serious, some humorous and some relaying a positive message of encouragement, and they're all quality songs. You're not gonna hear the typical "white tank top, bed of my truck, hey girl" songs here. There guys are blessed with crazy talent both instrumentally and vocally. Monty's voice, well, it'll make your knees weak and then combine that with Kimo's spot on harmonies, it just works and it works damn well. Oh, and James can chew gum and play drums in time with Folsom Prison Blues. Ha! Just sayin'. This time, they had Ray Whitlock on the keys and dang that dude can play and sing. These guys are all just doing what they love and doing it well. They aren't chasing charts which is a welcome relief and they've already caught what matters, the hearts of dedicated fans. Now, that being said, radio needs to tune in to what they have to offer, it's different and unique and those two things are what listeners are most wanting right now, something DIFFERENT. Connect with them via their website at cashcreekband.com and on social media. They're great with fan connection and do it all personally so none of that social media manager reply stuff. They're as genuine as they come and that is so much appreciated.

They played a set of mostly originals with a couple of 80's rockers thrown in to keep the walls shakin'. Check out their latest single, "My One and Only Weakness" below and let your local stations know about it!

"Talkin' Dirty"
"The Hard Way"
"Wishin' My Life Away"
"Everybody's Workin' for the Weekend" (80's Loverboy cover)
"I Can't Wait"
"Make Your Mama Proud"
"Wanted Dead or Alive" (80's Bon Jovi cover)
"Fooled Around and Fell In Love" (80's Elvin Bishop cover and my favorite song ever.)
"My One and Only Weakness" (Current radio single)
"All About the Money"
"Pour Some Sugar on Me" (80's Def Leppard cover)

The headliner was local favorite, The R.T. Johnson Band. I'm new to the RTB scene only having seen them twice so at this time, I don't have enough to fill a page like I do with CC, but give me time. These guys are really good, they even made me not mind listening to their version of "Old Town Road" for a few minutes and that in itself says a lot. LOL! I was able to stay for some of their set but truth be told, I may or may not have had too many IPA's thanks to the great bartending staff so ...
They were GREAT, kept the room rockin' and brought the country. I do have a request in for the set list which I'll add once I get it. They just signed with CCB Nashville over the weekend and have a brand new album coming up for release soon which I know is gonna be a game changer, so keep your ears open. I'll let ya know when I get the low down and where you can get it (and you SHOULD get it.). These guys are definitely a band to keep on your country radar. Meanwhile, check out their song "Summertime Hangover" below. Check out their Facebook page and follow them on social media. Great bunch of guys, great music and fun!

#NOWPLAYING - SONGS YOU SHOULD BE LISTENING TO ... FRIDAY, APRIL 5

If you're looking for new artists and you're getting tired of the same old Top 40 repetition on today's country radio, check out these names you may or may not be familiar with. Some songs listed are new, some may have been out a little while, but good music doesn't have a shelf life.

If you find yourself liking someone, follow them on social media and let them know you enjoy their music. Please be sure to talk about and share any of the songs and artists you like on this list. I'm sure they'd appreciate it! One more thing, if you purchase and download a song, please be sure to leave a review. These help the artists and their teams more than you realize. If you like the song, let them know why you love it. If not, be constructive and honest (not mean) about why you don't like it so much.
"Working on a Love Song"

"Raise the Bar"

"More Hearts Than Mine"

"Tammy Wynette Kind of Pain"

"If You're Lucky"

#CONCERTREVIEW - ROCKIN' IN EASTERN NC WITH CASH CREEK

Artist: Cash Creek

So it's no secret that I LOVE Cash Creek. No, I don't just like them. I LOVE them. I'm not the most subtle about it and that's totally on purpose because you need to know them and you need to LOVE them too.

I connected with this group about 2 years ago via a random email from one of the guys through my Facebook page asking if I'd mind checking out their new music. Well yeah, it's what I do, so I did. It immediately connected with me in such a positive way that I needed to find out more about these guys and here it is 2 years later and I'm all in. Their music is so unique and different than the sounds permeating the country music airwaves right now. This band promotes a positive vision in a sometimes not so positive and encouraging world. Their music is about taking life and making it better, looking at the good instead of focusing on the bad, acceptance and believing in yourself and in others. How can you go wrong with something that doesn't "sing-talk" or rap and says more than "boom boom", droppin' tailgates, cut off jeans and tight tank tops but can still have you doing that butt dance that you know we all do when we're hearing somethin' good?

Cash Creek has been on the road coast to coast with their "The Hard Way" tour and FINALLY, yes I stress FINALLY, made it  my way, stopping at the Market Street Pub in Washington, NC. I was so excited to see these guys perform live and they did not disappoint. After driving the wrong way down 2 one way streets and a GPS that refused to keep a satellite signal, I finally caught a glimpse Ol' Bessie, which is the new name I just now gave their tour bus, parked in a back lot. Speaking of Ol' Bessie, as a random twist of fate would have it, when the guys rented this bus for the trip, it just happened to be the exact bus Kimo and Monty spent time on while on the road with John Michael Montgomery. Boy, the stories that bus could tell but that's for another time, another tabloid. Ha!

The venue was very small but you know how these small town pubs can get on any given Saturday night, but this was no usual night, this was Halloween weekend so a packed house was definitely happening. The band was opening up for a local (and damned good) favorite, Moonshine, who I'll definitely be talking more about in the future and will be going back to see. These two bands together beats any "not so fun size" Snickers or granola bar (for the health conscious yuppie) being stuck in an eco-friendly recyclable "plastic" pumpkin. I will tell you now, the almost 2 hour drive and $150.00 hotel room was MORE than worth it to finally see this band live. Just to give you an idea of the amount of talent you're looking at with Cash Creek, we're talking touring musicians with years of time on the road with artists like Alabama, John Michael Montgomery and other big names. Kimo is the current longtime touring guitarist for Alabama so if you've seen Alabama the past few years, then you've seen 1/3 of Cash Creek. Just sayin', this ain't your neighbor's garage band hitting the same sour notes over and over again, these are professionals. Their set list included not only their originals, "Even Angels Have Bad Days", "I Can't Wait" and others, but they threw in some of the best covers of Alabama, Charlie Daniels, Old Crow Medicine Show, Skynyrd and even tossed in some 80's rock from Loverboy and Def Leppard. I have to say, my favorite big smile warm heart moment of the night was when they broke out Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love." That's the sexiest song ever and having these guys cover it definitely turned up the heat in the room. I admit, I had the vapors and was doing some serious swooning. It may have just been my 48 year old hot flash or the NC heat, but my bet falls more towards the band and the song.

I also have to throw this in there because well, the dude was OUTSTANDING ... Justin Walden, a recent transplant from Florida to Nashville, filled in as fiddle player until the band secures a new, permanent player and he KILLED it. He worked the crowd like Charlie Daniel's long lost cousin or something. He was fantastic. The devil didn't go down to Georgia, he came to the Market Street Pub. (Inserting plug for Justin's band, the Justin Walden Band here ... CHECK THEM OUT ON FACEBOOK.) They have a new single out called "Meet Me In Nashville" just so ya know. You can

Seriously, if you have not checked out Cash Creek, take a minute and tune in. They're worth the listen and if they come to your area, they're a must see. I haven't had this much fun since ... well ... just since.

Below are the links to Cash Creek, Moonshine and Justin Walden Band's social media pages, head over and say hi!

HAVE YOU TUNED INTO CASH CREEK?

Cash Creek - Left to Right:

Monty DeVita: Bass,Vocals
James Blaylock: Drums
  Kimo Forrest: Guitar, Keys, Vocals

Cash Creek may be a new name to most, however if you're a concert goin' country music fan, you've seen most of their faces standing behind some of country's biggest names night after night. Cash Creek is simply a group of outstanding musicians, who happen to also be longtime friends, that decided to come together and do their own thing and create a distinctive sound that is unique in today's market. When you turn on a song by Cash Creek, you won't hear autotune, overly produced electronic instrumentation, or anything like that here. What you will hear is simply the perfect blend of authentic God given vocal and instrumental talent from guys who love what they do and are pretty great at doing it. Courage, hard work, sacrifice, determination, commitment, toughness, heart, talent, guts are what this band is made of. They're gonna be able to look right at God at the end of their time and honestly say, "You know what, You gave us this ability and we used it the best we could to give back." Zac Brown once said "Talent alone gets you nowhere. You really have to have the grit, and you gotta have a love for people." I think he was talking about these guys because that is exactly who these four men are. They love what they do, they do it for the right reasons and they love people and those people love them right back.

Cash Creek started out as Silver Creek in the small "don't blink or you'll miss it" California town of Pope Valley. These longtime friends threw together a band and began playing small events around town and the Pope Valley Farm Center. Before long, the band's name caught the west coast wind and Silver Creek became one of the most requested bands for almost every west coast stage you can think of. Word spread pretty quickly among label and industry reps, phones starting ringing and the buzz was all over Nashville. The guys headed to Music City to do some networking and performing. This was where Silver Creek ended and Cash Creek was born. Two of the members decided it was time to pack up and move east to Music City, one of those members being Kimo Forrest. Kimo made the move and set up his own garage studio and began playing around town, eventually working with artists including John Michael Montgomery, Trace Adkins and his current regular gig as the guitarist for the legendary super group, Alabama. It was while on tour with John Michael Montgomery that he established a friendship with fiddle/mandolin player Steve Stokes. The music these two created together was something special, a sound quite unlike anything in today's modern country and with the addition of two more of Kimo's close friends and musicians from Pope Valley, drummer James Blaylock and bass player Monty DeVita, Cash Creek was on their way.

Since moving to Nashville, Cash Creek has released 6 albums and 3 charted radio singles. Singles released to radio include "Even Angels Have Bad Days", "Worth a Woman", "One Wave at a Time", and "The Hard Way." Cash Creek was also honored with nominations for 2 consecutive ICMA Awards for Mainstream Country Duo. Unfortunately they did not take home the win, but this is just a stepping stone on the path God set them on and that path only leads to big things. These guys didn't come together by chance, they came together by design. Steve Stokes recently left the band for personal reasons but Kimo, Monty and James are still going stronger than ever. Their latest single, "Make Your Momma Proud" released in late 2017 and has been a recurrent entry on The Iceman's New Artist Top 40 Country Chart and keeps gaining ground. "The Hard Way: Final Chapter" EP was released on December 15, 2017 and getting some great feedback from listeners on social media.

"Loving all these songs. Been on repeat for most this week!!! ❤️❤️"

"You have us under your spell and we love it!"

"Wonderful, incredible, amazing music"

" Listening to [At The] She Don't Give a Damn Cafe. This really shows the versatility in their voices and of course the instrumentals are superb, as always."

Their song, "Trouble in Love" was awarded the Josie Award for Song of the Year 2018. They are also featured on the new "Why Not Me" CD collaboration by Alabama's Jeff Cooke and cultural icon, William Shatner. The CD also features guest vocals from Neal McCoy and Home Free.

The guys are currently on their "The Hard Way" Tour and are covering both the east and west coasts. You can catch them along with special guests Kaylee Starr and Jody Medford on select dates. Can't wait to see what 2019 holds for these amazing musicians. Big things are on the way!

Connect with Cash Creek online at www.cashcreekband.com and get social with the guys on Twitter at @cashcreek, Facebook and Instagram! Give 'em a chance, trust me, they're worth your time. God willing, this Creek's gonna rise!

Get your copy of their latest EP, "The Hard Way: Final Chapter"and any of their other music on iTunes, at CD Baby and stream on Spotify. Be sure to leave a review and let them know how you like it!

TAKE A LISTEN: PUT THESE ARTISTS ON YOUR 2017 "PLAYDAR"

You may not be familiar with the name "Adam Craig", but you more than likely already know his style.  Arriving in Music City in 2004, he performed in various local hot spots in his bands Telluride and the Adam Craig Band and established a following. Adam was soon signed to a publishing deal and began writing music. His song, "Church Pew or Bar Stool" by Jason Aldean got him the recognition he needed to secure a deal with Sony/ATV Publishing. He later went on to co-wrote hits like "Close Your Eyes" by Parmalee, "Wastin' Gas" by Dallas Smith, and "Whiskey on My Breath" by Love and Theft to name a few. He signed a record deal with Stoney Creek Records in 2014, released his debut single "Reckon" in 2016 along with his debut EP. With his fresh sound, he's attracted quite a fan base and his popularity continues to grow.

His "every man" style, hints of gritty soul and bluegrass inflections puts Brent in a class all his own, one that no other artist compares to. His style is "Mellencamp riding down a dusty rural America back road with the windows down." Cobb has written songs for artists such as his good friend, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Kellie Pickler, Little Big Town and more. He released an EP in 2012, was featured on the 2016 "Southern Family" compilation and released his debut CD, "Shine on Rainy Day" this year as well. Brent Cobb takes pride in his music and it shines in his latest CD.

Have you ever heard of the Boomerang Theory? When you give your best to the world, the world returns the favor? Cash Creek gives their best with every note and every performance. Now with 2 new singles released simultaneously to country radio and Christian radio, "She Got Me" and "One Wave at a Time", the world is starting to give back to them via recognition and a growing allegiance of fans. "One Wave at a Time" is currently sitting at #1 for the second week in a row at Christian Music Weekly and "She Got Me" hit #1 on the Smokin' FM Top 20 Indie Chart. The band consists of 4 of the industry's best musicians who not only make up Cash Creek, but have been or currently are band members for Alabama, John Michael Montgomery and Brad Paisley. When you go see a performance by these guys, the world will pay you back in a good way with great music and a positive message. When you can tell that a band loves what they do and you can see the friendship on stage and off, that's how you know you're watching quality.

When it comes to country music, Texas artist Cody Jinks didn't wait for someone else to raise the bar, he raised it himself.  He knew he had a special gift and he knew he had to use it to the best of his ability and his latest CD, "I'm Not the Devil" is proof of that, debuting at No. 4 on the Top Country Albums chart. Cody Jinks is a heart that beats pure country. After his metal band broke up, Cody listened to his heart and decided country was where his voice belonged and we're sure glad he listened. His music resonates on a personal level and his subject matter can be a little dark, but dark is a good thing when it hits you when you need it to and his honesty is something we can sure appreciate.

I feel good adding Drake's name to this list, no pun intended ... well, ok maybe a little pun. Ok, I totally meant it. H. Jackson Brown, Jr. once said "Let your performance do the talking" and Drake White's performances speak volumes and each one is something unique and different. Drake is such a welcome change in musical direction. He is anything but boring or predictable. His music will have you up on your feet stomping and moving just as hard as he does. The energy he puts out is incredible. If you've never seen Drake perform, be ready to get your weekly dose of cardio in just one show. Drake White is more than a "Spark", he's a damn inferno. Big things coming from this guy, BIG THINGS.

This NC native has literally blown in like a "Hurricane" over the past year. His debut single "Hurricane" has made a huge impression on fans and country radio (thanks to Sirius XM's The Highway for getting it all started). His shows continue to draw large capacity crowds and his music is selling like crazy. There's nothing more attractive than humility and gratitude and Luke Combs has nailed both of these traits. He doesn't take the stage with anything other than heart and talent .. and maybe the occasional drink .. Ha! He leaves all of that heart on that stage when he walks off, knowing he gave it his all. He's one of my favorite artists of the year and I know without an ounce of doubt, he'll be one of mine for a long time to come.

Maggie Rose is the picture of the 3 P's: Passion, Patience, and Perseverance. She's really made a name for herself as a strong independent female artist. She had a setback a couple of years ago when she released "The Girl in Your Truck Song" which didn't exactly go over very well with radio or it's listeners but she stands unapologetic. She has been behind the scenes lately doing some writing and producing. The time off has paid off with her latest release, "The Variety Show Vol I.". What a great EP! It truly embraces who she is, shows a more personal side of herself and showcases her bad ass vocals. Her song "Love Me More" is striking chords and giving her the platform to really stand out in a sea of female artists. This is her year and she knows it. We've missed you Maggie Rose. Welcome back!

If you're looking for tradition in your country, stop right here. There's no need to go any farther. Country is in the blood and bones of Mo Pitney. Instead of rolling in their graves, George Jones and Merle Haggard are high fiving each other and smilling every time a Mo Pitney song is heard. With well received singles "Country" and "Boy and a Girl Thing" already on the books, Mo's just released his follow up single, "Everywhere" and it's already collecting great reviews. Mo is the real country deal, heart and soul.  I think Garth Brooks summed it up best by saying "True country music is honesty, sincerity, and real life to the hilt." This is exactly what you get when you get Mo Pitney.

If there was ever an artist more welcome to country music, it's Ned LeDoux, son of everyone's favorite cowboy, Chris LeDoux. Ned may look and sound like his dad, but Ned is his own artist just trying to keep the true western music legacy alive and well. Having grown up under Chris' infuence and playing in Chris' band, Western Underground, Ned knows better than anyone just how to do it.  Keep an ear out for Ned, you'll be hearing a lot from this guy.
