FANS GIVE THOMPSON SQUARE ITS FIRST-EVER CMT MUSIC AWARD

Husband/ Wife Duo Defy the Statistics To Take “Duo Video of the Year” Crown for Hit Single “I Got You”.

NEW SINGLE, “GLASS,” SOARS INTO TOP 20 THIS WEEK

(NASHVILLE, TN) – Last night, country music fans voted Thompson Square’s, “I Got You,” the winner of the coveted “Duo Video of the Year” at the CMT Music Awards.

The carefree, up-tempo crowd favorite and follow-up to the #1 anthem, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” was a Top 10 hit on both the Billboard and Mediabase Country charts.

Directed by Wes Edwards (who also directed the video for Thompson Square’s #1 anthem, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not” and “Glass (Version T2)”), “I Got You,” is a spoof on the classic Sonny & Cher Show. Husband/wife duo Keifer and Shawna Thompson played every single character featured in the video – from talk show hosts to fire eaters.

(WATCH VIDEO FOR “ I GOT YOU” HERE )

“We want to thank Country radio, Stoney Creek Records, our manager and entire team – as well as Wes Edwards who made an awesome video that really showed off our personalities,” said Keifer Thompson backstage while dutifully holding his wife’s stilettos after the long work day.

“Additionally, we want to say thank you to all the fans who have changed our lives forever,” Keifer continued.

“Thanks also to Jason Aldean and Lady Antebellum for taking us out on tour with them and helping us make a whole new circle of fans,”said Shawna Thompson. “A few years ago we were selling boots and buckles at a shop downtown to make ends meet – so it feels really good to be getting one right now!”

Especially significant about the win is that Thompson Square defied the typical split-vote statistic that follows artists nominated twice within the same category. The reigning ACM Duo of the Year’s fan showing was so strong that it overwhelmed the typical awards show curse and propelled Thompson Square to victory.

Adding to the good news, Thompson Square’s latest hit single, “Glass” soared into the Top 20 on the Mediabase Country Chartthis week. The powerful, romantic ballad that The Washington Posthailed as a “poignant meditation on human vulnerability,” showcases a more serious side of Thompson Square, flag-shipped by Shawna Thompson’s powerhouse vocals.

It’s been an extraordinary year for the husband/wife duo who celebrated 13 years of marriage in May. In fact, Keifer and Shawna Thompson pounded the pavement for all of that 13 years in the music industry before finally signing to tiny independent label Stoney Creek Records. The young married couple worked odd jobs, played bar shows and knocked on countless closed doors during that time.

One of those odd jobs was as bartenders at Nashville’s Lower Broad night spot The Wheel. This week, Keifer and Shawna returned to their old stomping grounds for an exclusive, in-depth profile with E! News. It was at The Wheel that Keifer and Shawna were both bartending when Broken Bow Records President/ CEO Benny Brown signed them to his brand new independent label Stoney Creek Records (sister label to Broken Bow Records and home to Jason Aldean).

The reigning ACM “Vocal Duo of the Year,Thompson Square has earned an astounding list of accolades in its first year on the Country music scene. The husband/wife duo’s #1 smash, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” earned them 2 GRAMMY Nominations as well as anAmerican Music Award, 2 CMA, 5 CMT Music Award nominations, a Nationwide “Best New Live Act” nomination as well as a 2012 Teen Choice Award nomination for “Choice Country Group.” Keifer and Shawna Thompson are also winners of 3 fan-voted American Country Awards. “AYGKMON” is nearing Double Platinum sales status, was the #1 Digital Soundscan Single for 5 weeks straight, the #1 Country Ringtone for 12 consecutive weeks and was iTunes’ 2011 Country Song of the Year. Thompson Square’s whirlwind year has seen them on national tours supporting Jason Aldean and Lady Antebellum as well as gracing the stages of The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Conan, Fox & Friends All American Concert Series and the 45th Annual CMA Awards. Thompson Square (or T2) ended 2011 as Billboard’s #1 New Country Artist in terms of digital sales and the #6 New Artist across all genres.

THE 2012 CMT AWARDS: A LOOK BACK AND HOPEFULLY FORWARD

In a world full of awards shows for everything, tonight was a subtle reminder that the best awards shows keep it simple and to the point, keep it about the music and those who make it and the CMT Awards did just that. There was no crappy, cheesy, boring filler. There were no over the top theatrics, no pyrotechnics, no bad jokes, there was simply music and awards for those who bring the best to us every day. The one complaint I do have with the show itself (and several on Twitter seemed to have as well) is the fact that in such a huge industry and genre such as country music that most of the award presenters had nothing to do with music at all. Presenters included Denise Richards, best known for being Charlie Sheen's ex wife and for her lesbian scene with Neve Campbell in "Wild Things", Dario Franchetti who is an Indianapolis 500 driver, winner and husband of Ashley Judd, Dax Shepard (fiancee of awards host, Kristen Bell) and previous winner on American Idol, Jordin Sparks, who is a pop singer. Country is a large enough genre that there should have been plenty of artists to fill those roles which would have kept it a little more respectful in my opinion. An artist receiving recognition for their hard work in a particular genre of music shouldn't be awarded that "prize" by someone who knows really nothing about it. That's just my opinion and it might not agree with yours and that's ok. That being said, the show itself was fantastic other than that.

List of the 2012 CMT Award Winners

Video of the Year - Carrie Underwood, “Good Girl”
Male Video of the Year - Luke Bryan, “I Don’t Want This Night to End”
Female Video of the Year: Miranda Lambert, “Over You”
Duo Video of the Year: Thompson Square, “I Got You”
Group Video of the Year: Lady Antebellum, “We Owned the Night”
Breakthrough Video of the Year: Scotty McCreery, “The Trouble with Girls”
Collaborative Video of the Year: Brad Paisley with Carrie Underwood, “Remind Me.”
CMT Performance of the Year: Jason Aldean, “Tattoos on This Town”

Now, here are our picks for the highlights of the night:

Rascal Flatts and Journey: the best way to close an award show ever! Arnel Pineda is a dead ringer vocally for Steve Perry and his vocals blended very well with RF. Best part of the night for me, quiet, music and me.

Luke Bryan's performance of "Drunk on You": Very energetic, he owned his audience and made it a little more special for one admiring female by handing her his guitar. Good move, Luke!

Speaking of Luke Bryan, where did he get those camouflage drawers? Redneck's Secret? Now there's a store for ya! Can you imagine? Heck, if Luke gets his "delicates" there, I'm all for it!'

I wanna know how Kristen Bell wound up in my seat between Luke and Jake Owen? LOL!

Little Big Town performing their brand new summer hit, "Pontoon". This one is already out there on the radio, musically hosting pontoon parties everywhere. They also win for coolest props and set of the night.

Jason Aldean's jeans.... I vote them Entertainer of the Year! How did your "boys" breathe in those things?

Shauna from Thompson Square's "double sided duct tape" dress. Pretty but shapeless and the breasteses were held in place by obvious double stick tape.

Boo Hiss! - Montgomery Gentry lost Duo of the Year to Thompson Square. Yay for TS, but come on, it's Eddie and Troy for God's sake.

Not ONE single Mermaid looking dress on the red carpet.

Toby Keith's performance of "Beers Ago": Loved it. Unlike the last awards show, Toby didn't appear to be drinking. Don't know if it's because he was hosting the show, but it made for a much better performance. The crowd loved it and so did we.

Eric Church's outdoor performance of "Drink in my Hand". Good God y'all, how is his guy so underrated? EXCELLENT SHOW!

Hank Jr and Brad Paisley: Performance at Bridgestone Arena Plaza. - Hell, it's Hank and Brad, I think that says all it needs to.

Zac Brown Band's premiere of their new single, "The Wind". Loved it.

Willie Nelson, Toby Keith, Jamey Johnson, Darius Rucker and Zac Brown performance of "Roll Me Up". When CMT announced Willie would be lighting up the stage with stars, I bet more than one person said to themselves, "yeah, he's lighting it up alright". The show was great. How can you not beat an allstar ode to one of Willie's greatest and most commonly known past times, lighting up a fat one and smoking it on your bus until the Duplin County, NC sherriff shuts down your show ... uh, I mean a personal ode to "kicking country grass"? Performance well done!

Carrie Underwood's win for "Good Girl" as Video of the Year ... no, not the win itself, I don't think it should be up for "OF THE YEAR" when it was only released 3 months ago and there are 9 months left in the year, but that's beside the point. The highlight was when she handed her husband, big and burly hockey player, Mike Fisher, her girly sparkly purse to hold while she accepted her award. He had the "Oh great, really?" look on his face. Instead of giving her a good deep wet kiss like other award winning artist spouses do, he simply gave her the manly "shoulder to shoulder obligatory man bump" like a man gives his best friend when he scores with the girl next door. Nice one. LOL!

No Taylor Swift  appearance or wins ... not being mean spirited but it was nice to see other artists get their time in the spotlight instead of being overshadowed each time Taylor wins an award. Let someone else enjoy the sunshine.

Miranda Lambert's win for Female Video of the Year for "Over You". This video was based on song that came from personal experience, heartache and tragedy. This is the type of songs I like to see win.

Scotty McCreery's win for Breakthrough Video of the Year for "The Trouble with Girls": Being that I am from Garner, NC, which is where Scotty's originally from and his family still lives, I gotta just say thank you for showcasing the school we both called home for 10-12th grades, Garner High (Garner Senior High back in my day). It was kinda cool to see my old locker in the 100 hall as part of the background scenery. Man did that bring back some memories.

Pistol Annies - What can I say? It's the freakin' Pistol Annies, the sexiest, most bad ass women God ever put on this planet. Now THIS is country, y'all.

The Band Perry performing "Postcard from Paris" - Loved it, love Kimberly, She is the epitome of natural beauty, brains and brawn. The brothers Pilgrim need hair cuts though.

VIDEO REWIND: A LOOK BACK AT RASCAL FLATTS AND JOURNEY PERFORMING ON TONIGHT'S 2012 CMT MUSIC AWARDS

In case you missed it tonight, here is the phenomenal closing performance of "Banjo/Don't Stop Believing" by Rascal Flatts and Journey. What a fantastic ending to a great awards show. Thank you CMT!

His albums have sold more than 36 million copies, ranking him among the top-selling all-genre artists on Billboard's Top 200 Artists of the Decade. The second hit, "Red Solo Cup," has become the most remarkable and commercially successful country single in recent memory with a viral video with more than 15 million views while topping the top downloaded country songs. And now, the third single release from Clancy's Tavern, "Beers Ago," is on its way to becoming another huge hit.

Kristen Bell is currently starring in the Showtime series, “House of Lies” opposite Don Cheadle. She will star alongside Dax Shepard in the feature film, “Hit & Run,” hitting theaters on August 24, 2012, a film they produced together. She lends her voice as the infamous narrator on Gossip Girl, can be heard in the new animated FX television show “Unsupervised” and will be added to the roaster of Disney princesses in the studios upcoming animated feature, "Frozen". She recently completed work on “Some Girls” written and based on the play of the same title by Neil LaBute. Bell’s film credits include “Forgetting Sarah Marshall" “You Again,” “When in Rome,” and “Couples Retreat”. Her television credits include “Veronica Mars,” “Deadwood,” “Heroes” and “Party Down” while her Broadway credits include “Tom Sawyer” and “The Crucible.”

A Letter to the Christian "Kaniacs" ... Don't Worry About CMT's Bad Decision

Hey Kaniacs, don't worry about CMT not adding Christian's video to their rotation. Although it was a really bad decision, it's ok and we as Kaniacs can deal with this let down with class. "Country Music Television" is owned by Viacom, who owns MTV and we know how long it's been since music videos were really even played there. CMT is more focused now on "My Big Redneck Wedding", "CMT Made" (which by the way is about a girl wanting to be a HIP HOP dancer on today's episode), "Extreme Home Makeover" and "You Think You're Smarter Than a 5th Grader" and maybe a few hours a day of videos. Tune into GAC if you can get it on your provider, they keep the music playing ALL DAY, EVERY DAY and support new music. "Let Me Go" is a featured video in their video section on their website. Show them your support and let them know Kaniacs truly appreciate their playing Christian's music. Let the CMT thing go. Keep it classy, keep it nice and just move over to GAC.
