COUNTRY VIDEO REWIND: "THE SONG REMEMBERS WHEN" - TRISHA YEARWOOD

That's the amazing thing about a song, it takes you back to times and memories long forgotten. It makes you feel as though you're right back there, living it all over again. That's the power of a song and no one can deliver better than Trisha Yearwood.

"The Song Remembers When"

I was standing at the counter
I was waiting for the change
When I heard that old familiar music start
It was like a lighted match
Had been tossed into my soul
It was like a dam had broken in my heart

After taking every detour
Getting lost and losing track
So that even if I wanted
I could not find my way back
After driving out the memory
Of the way things might have been
After I'd forgotten all about us
The song remembers when

We were rolling through the Rockies
We were up above the clouds
When a station out of Jackson played that song
And it seemed to fit the moment
And the moment seemed to freeze
When we turned the music up and sang along

And there was a God in Heaven
And the world made perfect sense
We were young and were in love
And we were easy to convince
We were headed straight for Eden
It was just around the bend
And though I have forgotten all about it
The song remembers when

I guess something must have happened
And we must have said goodbye
And my heart must have been broken
Though I can't recall just why
The song remembers when

Well, for all the miles between us
And for all the time that's passed
You would think I haven't gotten very far
And I hope my hasty heart
Will forgive me just this once
If I stop to wonder how on Earth you are

But that's just a lot of water
Underneath a bridge I burned
And there's no use in backtracking
Around corners I have turned
Still I guess some things we bury
Are just bound to rise again
For even if the whole world has forgotten
The song remembers when
Yeah, and even if the whole world has forgotten
The song remembers when

COUNTRY VIDEO REWIND: "WHERE'VE YOU BEEN" - KATHY MATTEA

I think country music should ask Kathy Mattea the same question, "Where've You Been"? We've looked for you forever and a day. Songs like this that make an emotional impact are such a vital part of country that seems to be slowly disappearing.

COUNTRY VIDEO REWIND: "NOT READY TO MAKE NICE" - DIXIE CHICKS

Hey, I know what radio's been missing ... The Dixie Chicks! This one was always a great song. Would love to see them make a comeback. Politics aside, music like this is missed.

COUNTRY REWIND: "DON'T GIVE CANDY TO A STRANGER" - LARRY BOONE

This one's always been a favorite of mine, probably one most of you haven't heard before. It was pretty obscure but a great song by a guy with a wonderful voice.

Country Rewind: "15 Minutes of Shame" - Kristy Lee Cook

In case you aren't familiar with Kristy Lee Cook, she was a seventh place finalist on American Idol during Season 7. You might remember her as "the girl who sold her horse to get to the auditions". She is the total package - beauty, brains, talent and she hunts! She can be seen on the Versus network series Goin’ Country, which showcases both her hunting skills and her musical talent. She's currently working on her Broken Bow Records debut cd which should hopefully be out pretty soon! This is her debut hit, "15 Minutes of Shame" from 2008.

You can find Kristy Lee Cook online at:

COUNTRY REWIND: "Just Let Me Be In Love" - Tracy Byrd

Does anyone else miss Tracy Byrd? Remember the 90's when he ruled country radio? Whatever happens to those great artists, does their music go into a station's "don't play this anymore" bin like a relic? Good music should be enjoyed no matter how old it might be. Just play the songs!

COUNTRY REWIND: "Out of Your Shoes" - Lorrie Morgan

The late 80's through the mid-90's were when country was at it's finest and this classic #2 hit, "Out of Your Shoes" by the amazing Lorrie Morgan reminds us why. I really miss country from that time. It will never be that good again.

COUNTRY REWIND: "Almost a Memory Now" - Blackhawk

There were so many good bands in the decade that truly made country, the 90's. Blackhawk was one of my favorite bands, yet so underrated and their music was almost under the country radar. Their sound was unique and truly stood out in the plentitude of Garth Brooks and Clint Black radio play.

COUNTRY REWIND: "Dumas Walker" - Kentucky Headhunters

Thought we'd take it back a few years to a time when the Kentucky Headhunters ruled the country airwaves and everyone was singing "Dumas Walker". Miss those days? Well, the guys are back with a new cd, "Dixie Lullabys" that was released through Amazon and iTunes.

VIDEO REWIND: CMA Country Christmas 2011

In case you weren't able to catch the show that aired a week ago today, December 1, here are some of the performances you missed from some of country's best artists, new and established. Thank you to Nashville for putting some country in Christmas this year.

Keith Urban: "The Christmas Song" - I am so glad we got a chance to see Keith's softer side. He's always hard rocking and sometimes you can't even truly hear the beauty in his voice because of the band and his own guitar. This was absolutely beautiful.

Vince Gill: "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" - Vince's voice makes anytime the most wonderful time of the year. If you've never seen him live, he is a MUST see for anyone and everyone. He is the definition of what music was meant to sound like.

Kellie Pickler: "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" - Kellie Pickler just brightens up a room the minute she walks in, she doesn't even have to open her mouth to sing. She's a breath of fresh air, brings heat the coldest heart and always is exactly who she is.

Martina McBride: "Please Come Home for Christmas" - Martina just brings class to any event she is a part of. Between her breath-taking beauty, down home heart and voice like a choir of Christmas angels, you can be assured that anything she sings is going to be amazing.

Scotty McCreery: "The First Noel" - Ahh Scotty, you're doing so much for our hometown of Garner, NC. He won American Idol, was voted Best New Artist in the American Country Awards and his debut single, "Love You This Big" was certified gold by the RIAA and earned the title of highest debut for a debut single in the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart. I'd say it's gonna be a great Christmas for Scotty McCreery this year.

Little Big Town: "Santa Claus is Back in Town" - Little Big Town can put the "unk" in funk, the "mony" in harmony, and their voices are the gift they choose to give us at Christmas. Thank you Little Big Town for keeping it real and sharing your talent.

Rascal Flatts: "White Christmas" - Rascal Flatts, the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry, provide a harmony that brings that word "mas" to Christmas because people want to hear "mas" (means "more" in Spanish, just in case you weren't familiar). They sell out concert after concert and there's no question as to why once you take a listen to this performance. THIS is the Rascal Flatts style of days gone by that I loved so much, so good to hear it again.

Faith Hill: "The Little Drummer Boy" - Any appearance by Faith Hill guarantees a superb performance and this was no disappointment. I loved the arrangement and the thought that went into making my least favorite Christmas song one I might actually start to like again. Glad to see Faith is back.

Sugarland: "Silent Night" - Not the song I wanted to hear from them, but they did it some major justice. I would have rather have seen an upbeat song that featured more vocals from Kristian and less foreign language I couldn't sing along with. It's nice that she threw in a musical language change for those that could understand though. Jennifer Nettles has one of the most beautiful and strong voices in country music when she ditches the over twang and just lets it truly flow from within. This night was not a silent night by a long shot.

Jennifer Nettles: "All I Want for Christmas is You" - Ok, so shoot me, I didn't like this one. I thought it was too variety-show like and being a huge fan of the original version by Mariah Carey, there are some things that just can't be outdone. That being said, it wasn't awful, but it sure wasn't at the top of my "would watch again over and over on Youtube at all hours of the night" list. But, to those of you who would .... here ya go!

Lauren Alaina: "My Grown Up Christmas List" - Loved it, loved her, loved the song choice. I think this song showcased her ability to show that she's not just a young girl playing dress up and singing into her hairbrush, it shows that she's grown into a beautiful young woman with an amazingly beautiful voice and an innocent quality you rarely see these days. This was one of my favorite performances of the night. I really hope Lauren goes a long way.

Amy Grant: "Breath of Heaven" - Love this song, love Amy Grant. I saw her perform this in Durham, NC in 2010 on her "12 Days of Christmas" tour with Vince Gill and it was stunning. I can say no less of this performance, absolutely wonderful. With the star above her head and the rays of light, she does indeed remind one of the Virgin Mary and makes you actually envision her standing there talking to God about the baby she's carrying. Very well done.

Little Big Town: "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" - I think I said it all on their last song shown a few videos above. This is my one of my favorites and they made it even more so.

Brad Paisley and Brian Setzer: "Sleigh Ride" - Hated it, even though I love both artists. I don't like them together and with this being a country show, I thought Brad should at least sing. Now, maybe he was sick and couldn't sing, in that case, at least he was there and played. Just didn't like this arrangement at all.

Darius Rucker: "Winter Wonderland" - How do you not like Darius? I thought he did a great job on this one. I'm glad they included him.

All Artists: "Jingle Bells" Jam - What a great way to end a great evening of music.

Country Rewind: "Sweet Music Man" - Reba McEntire

I have always loved this song. There are so many versions of it - Kenny Rogers (the original), Waylon, Dolly, Tammy Wynette and others but Reba's has this sincerity to it that makes you forget it's a remake.

COUNTRY REWIND: "I Got It Bad" - Matraca Berg

This is one of my favorite "sassy" songs by Matraca Berg (who wrote "You and Tequila" for Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter). Love her!

Country Rewind: "Trouble" - Mark Chesnutt (1995)

Time for a little flashback to the days when country was country and we were all line dancing at our local honky tonks, buying Wranglers and those "Garth Brooks" country shirts. I miss those days when the industry was about the music.
