Continuing the tradition of bringing you the latest in country music news, “The Pickup” starts by paying tribute to two country music artists taken way too soon. CMA and ACM winner Don Williams and Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry both died on September 8. Williams passed away at the age of 78 after a battle with emphysema. Gentry was tragically killed in a New Jersey helicopter crash headed to a concert on the East Coast for later that night. Gentry was 50 years old.
Justin Moore has announced his “Hell on a Highway Tour.” The tour is scheduled to kick off October 13 in Louisiana and will run through Spring 2018. Opening for Moore will be previous Pickup & Coming success story Dylan Scott.

Fall may be right around the corner, but the newest Pickup & Coming artist Scott Brantley is keeping summer around a little longer with his single “My Cooler.” The Georgia native stopped by “The Pickup” headquarters.
Last time “The Pickup” went behind the scenes Hank Jr.’s all new “Are You Ready For Some Football.” In this episode, “The Pickup” has an exclusive with his rowdy friends Florida Georgia Line and Jason Derulo about what it means to them to be part of such an iconic anthem.
As previously mentioned on “The Pickup,” Dolly Parton has announced her debut children’s album called I Believe In You. “The Pickup” was on hand when Parton performed some of the tracks for a group of children, and got to catch up with her backstage where she talked about the music on the album. The album will be available digitally on September 29 and physical copies will be available October 13.

THE FINE LINE BETWEEN SIN AND SALVATION: MEET BRIAN BONDS
Purchase "Wrong Side of Tennessee" on iTunes
When you first see Brian Bonds, based on the mohawk, guy liner, piercings, hair metal band tshirts and an abundance of tattoos, it's sadly very easy to form a judgement on who you think he is and what you think he's about. I can tell you almost immediately that your judgement would be dead wrong. When I first met the former guitar player for Florida Georgia Line during an interview in 2010, I admit without hesitation that I had those same judgements. You immediately think he runs with a rough crowd, gets into the wrong situations and is a reckless soul. You're right, he has run with a rough crowd, he has gotten into the wrong situations (haven't we all at one time or another?) but he is far from a reckless soul and if one takes the time to sit down with him and have one conversation, I can promise you that your opinion will change. There's something about him that can't help but draw you in, to make you see beyond the obvious. Does he cuss? Yep. Does he drink? Yep. Does he really care what people think about him? Yep, more than you would think. Fans LOVE him. He's kind hearted, soft spoken, quick witted and willing to share his love of music with anyone who wants to listen. He's telling his stories in a way that's hard to come by these days, with raw emotion and personal experience. He's lived on both ends of the musician's fence - traveling the world as part of country's most visible and successful bands, Florida Georgia Line. He's the one you can always find mingling with fans in the parking lot or wandering meet and greet lines saying hello, not just sitting in the bus until showtime. He loves people and knows the importance of getting to know them and to let them get to know him. He's seen it all, some he probably wishes he hadn't seen. He's lived the musician's tales of excess, fame and fortune and he's seen the ups and he's experienced the downs. He's also lived on the good side - he has a beautiful family who he loves very much. Watching him play with his young son, Hendrix, and how much this kid adores him is a vivid reminder that what you see truly is just on the outside, the really good in Brian is what you don't see upon first glance, who he is on the inside.
He decided to leave the "good life" to truly focus on the GOOD life - his family, to mentor young musicians and help them find their way in the business and to develop his own music and his own unique way of bridging the various styles he grew up on, rock, blues and country, into a style all his own. His vision is to show both sides of the coin and tell the stories of what happens between rock bottom and the brass ring, not only as how he's lived them but as we've all lived them at one time or another in our lives, and how we survive the struggle between the two. It was the right time to step out from the shadows of the road and stand in his own spotlight. His sound is so unlike anything else out there and undeniably "love it or hate it", but whether you make the decision to love it or hate it, it's always going to be 100% Brian Bonds and there is no selling out and no blending in with the rest. He's not shooting for musical perfection, he wants the imperfections to be noticed, the emotion to be heard and the music to simply be relateable to everyone that listens. The only way to really describe his music is a musical conglomerate of the bad boy, outlaw side of Waylon, the fightin' side of Merle, the sensitive side of Willie and the dark side of Johnny mixed with the heavy rock influence of Def Leppard, Pantera, White Snake, Van Halen and other heavier bands all while keeping the basic ingredients of country like banjos, steel guitar, Dobro, storytelling, honesty and sincerity. As a multi-genre fan, I love it and this is only song one.
His first single, "Wrong Side of Tennessee" was recently released and has been getting great reviews from fans, writers and other industry insiders. It's about the "wrong side" and about temptation. The single is available for download on iTunes now. He's working on follow up singles and I had the pleasure of hearing them before they've been mixed and released and they're fantastic. I'm not really a "genre discriminator" because I love most styles of music (ok, I don't care for rap so maybe I do discriminate a little there) and personally I love that there are so many styles out there right now and this is a marriage of genres that actually work and don't sound like a screwed up mess that happened to slip out of the studio. There's plenty of "country rock" out there but I think this falls under the "rock country" label with a mad dash of today's brand of outlaw (if you're really going to slap a label on it). It's definitely heavier on the rock side and it will rock your ass off. It's like that first slow sip of whiskey, it kicks you hard right out of the bottle but once it hits you, the burn is nice and easy but will leave you wanting another sip.

FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE GETS THEIR “SUN DAZE” ON ATOP OF THE COUNTRY RADIO CHARTS THIS WEEK
GOLD-Certified Smash Marks Sixth #1 Single
Superstar Duo Ignites Billboard’s Hot Tours As Lead Country Act
PRESS RELEASE
"We are real proud of 'Sun Daze' because that song came about so late in the game. It was one of the last ballpark tour dates we did with Nelly, but we were still finishing up the album and inspired to write that day,” shares FGL’s Brian Kelley. “We thought we pretty much had every song we wanted but this one definitely kicked one of the songs off. It shows that right down to the wire you need to keep writing and stay in your creative zone. We knew we had something special."
“We can’t begin to thank Country radio and our fans enough for all of the support for our music and what we do,” FGL’s Tyler Hubbard adds. “We have been beyond blessed the past few years and know that we wouldn’t be here without you. Can’t wait to see everyone out on the road!”
FGL ignited Billboard’s latest Hot Tours ranking as their ANYTHING GOES TOUR 2015 earned the #3 spot, right behind Andre Rieu and Billy Joel, and solidified them as the lead Country act on the list. The award-winning duo kicked off their North American trek with a sold-out show at the Huntington Center in Toledo, OH, on January 15 and boasts total attendance surpassing the 60,000 mark in the first six cities.
The dynamic pair will bring their seize-the-day attitude and raucous party anthems overseas for the first time with four shows on the C2C Country to Country festival tour in Europe this month. In addition to the ANYTHING GOES TOUR stops, fans can catch FGL at several festivals nationwide and select stadium dates on Luke Bryan's KICK THE DUST UP TOUR.
The reigning ACM and CMA Vocal Duo of the Year recently scored five ACM Award nominations including their first nod for the prestigious and fan-voted Entertainer of the Year for the 50th Annual ACM Awards airing on CBS on April 19 from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. CMA CLOSE UP: FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE SET NEW BOUNDARIES
By Chuck Dauphin
© 2015 CMA Close Up® News Service / Country Music Association®, Inc.
Ask reigning CMA Vocal Duo of the Year Florida Georgia Line about the moment they knew they had something special with their debut single “Cruise,” and Tyler Hubbard says he can pinpoint the time and place.
“I think it was the Country Throwdown Tour in the summer of 2012,” he recalled. “That was a moment where we thought that things were starting to turn for us. People were beginning to recognize who we were. It was then that things really started to spread. Since then, it’s been a crazy ride.”
“Every show we played after releasing that song, things got better and better for our set,” agreed Hubbard’s duo partner, Brian Kelley. “People were buying the EP, our old stuff, and looking up YouTube videos of what we had covered, to make sure they knew that too.”
The Republic Nashville duo enjoyed a similar reaction to their sophomore effort, Anything Goes, which debuted at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and Top Country Album charts and has been certified Gold. “Everything you hear on the album is something that (producer) Joey Moi brought to the table,” Hubbard insisted. “We call him the Wizard. He understands our dream, our vision and our sound, and who we are and what we represent. If it’s up to us, we’ll never let anyone else touch our music.”
Scott Borchetta, Founder/President/CEO of Big Machine Label Group, is also essential to the duo’s process. “Any time you have somebody who has been as successful as Scott on multiple levels of the industry, you have to listen to him,” said Kelley. “He gives great advice. His leadership is incredible. His vision is out of this world. When he speaks up with an idea, it’s pretty much greatness that comes from his mouth. He’s so driven and business-savvy. We’ve known that since Day One, and it’s cool to learn as much as we can from him.”
Jimmy Harnen is another important player in the Anything Goes story. “We had the pleasure of listening to it as it was being made,” said the Executive VP/ Big Machine Label Group and President of Republic Nashville. “We heard the demos and the rough mixes. It was always fun to watch as they built the follow-up to a great record. There were so many high points to Anything Goes, but at the same time, it maintains the core of Florida Georgia Line.”
This widening of the FGL sound may be what it takes to build on their already exploding fan base. “It’s amazing to see how music can touch so many people and turn them into Country Music fans,” Hubbard observed. “One of our best compliments is hearing that someone might not have listened to Country Music before we came out, and now they love it. We look forward to the meet-and-greets where we hear their stories. It’s so great to see them out in the crowd, letting loose and having a good time. That’s what we do it for.”

Having developed and implemented VIP and travel packages for Luke Bryan’s tours for years CID was the perfect partner for Crash My Playa, designing a country music festival where fans could see their favorite artists on stage and enjoy the sun, beach, food and adventures with their friends.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to all the fans and artists that believed in us to host the inaugural ‘Crash My Playa,’” remarked Dan Berkowitz, CID Entertainment founder and CEO. “We are so thrilled with how great of a time everyone had.
