#IMPACTINGNOW - BLACKBERRY SMOKE FEATURING JAMEY JOHNSON - "LONESOME FOR A LIVIN'"

A few years ago Blackberry Smoke, Jamey Johnson, and George Jones recorded a version of “yesterday’s wine.” Shortly after Charlie Starr was so moved meeting George he wrote a somewhat autobiographical song for him called “Lonesome For A Livin”. As much as George loved the song and although he wanted to, he never got the chance to record it as he passed away. Fast forward a few years, Blackberry Smoke and Jamey were at a show together and Charlie played him the song, they decided that night they should cut the song it together, for George. Dave Cobb loved the story so we included it on this last album, "You Hear Georgia". We miss you Possum, this one is for George!

Y'all get this one out there, create a buzz. Tell your mama, tell your daddy, tell your plumber, tell anyone ya talk to! This one deserves radio play. This is is a good 'un.

GEORGE JONES CHARTS WITH "WHITE LIGHTNING"

“Alcohol has owned me and controlled much of my life. Now is my time to own it.”
 - George Jones, 2012

IRVINE, Ca. (June 18, 2015) – George Jones’s name is at the top of the charts again, but this time it’s not for music. The George Jones White Lightning signature brand of moonshine received highest honors in the 2015 SIP Awards. George Jones White Lightning Apple Pie took home a Platinum Medal for Unaged Flavor Infused Whiskey/Moonshine. The award underscores the high quality of the signature whiskeys, which are available exclusively at the George Jones Museum.

“George always wanted to own his own brand of whiskey,” said Nancy Jones, George’s widow. “This was one of the promises I made to him before he died, that I’d make that dream come true.”

The Spirit International Prestige Awards are held annually and gauge consumer satisfaction with spirits. The SIP Awards rank among the most prestigious awards available for liquor products. They are given annually to the top spirits in the world.

This is the first year George Jones White Lightning entered the competition. It was released in April, when the George Jones Museum, restaurant, event space, and rooftop restaurant first opened.

WAY BACK WEDNESDAY: "TENNESSEE WHISKEY" - GEORGE JONES

Perhaps not exactly a “Welcome to Summer” song but a great song nonetheless. I had the opportunity to see David Allan Coe a while back and this song hasn’t left my mind since. “Tennessee Whiskey” was originally done by David Allan Coe as the title track on his album released in 1981. The love song was crafted beautifully by the famed and brilliant Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. It’s been sung by everyone from the Possum himself, George Jones to more recently, Chris Stapleton and Meghan Lindsey of NBC's "The Voice". “Tennessee Whiskey” is a song about a barfly that found love outside of the whiskey bottle but as that’s the only love he’s ever known, that’s all he can compare it to. The chorus (and the entire song really) says it achingly and beautifully with

“You're as smooth as Tennesee whiskey
You're as sweet as strawberry wine
You're as warm as a glass of Brandy
And I stay stoned on your love all the time”

Dean Dillon has always written such eloquent lyrics and spun such worlds in mere minutes it leaves me incredulous, shaking my head the entire time. More currently, he’s written for greats such as Randy Travis, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Toby Keith, Blake Shelton, Kellie Pickler, Sammy Kershaw, Randy Rogers Band and just about everyone you can think of and those are just a few in this decade. Linda Hargrove passed away in 2010, but in her illustrious life had penned hits for Olivia Newton John, Lynn Anderson, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and the list goes on and on. Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove create a rarity of a writing duo, such unique minds that have written with such soul (and Dillon continues to) that it is the essence of poetry in songwriting, more exquisite than most anything you will ever hear.

“PLAYIN' POSSUM! THE FINAL NO SHOW” ADDS ARTISTS INCLUDING BRAD PAISLEY, MARTINA MCBRIDE, AND MORE

Nashville, Tenn. (October 8, 2013) – Today, Nancy Jones revealed additional talent for what would have been George Jones’ final concert appearance in Nashville, Tennessee, on November 22, 2013 but is now a tribute to the country music legend.  In addition, “Playin' Possum! The Final NO Show” has been dubbed the official name of the event.

"The evening of George Jones songs is going to be the best musical tribute Nashville has ever seen,” says Nancy Jones.  “We have many surprises planned, and I just wish George could be here to see what we are doing for him."

The SOLD OUT tribute concert will feature performances by Brad Paisley, Martina McBride, Big & Rich, Loretta Lynn, Lee Ann Womack, Craig Morgan, Thompson Square, Ronnie Milsap, Bill Anderson and rockers Megadeth. Previously announced performers include Kid Rock, George Strait, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, Alan Jackson, Dierks Bentley, Reba McEntire, Alabama, Travis Tritt, Tanya Tucker, Josh Turner, The Oak Ridge Boys, Charlie Daniels, Jamey Johnson, Montgomery Gentry, Sam Moore, and others.

"George Jones had a way of putting his finger right into your wounds and letting you know, 'I understand. I know your pain.' While 'Wild Irish Rose,' may be an unexpected choice with so many great songs to choose from, it is a perfect example of Mr. Jones way of reaching inside every one of us, and making us aware that we all have pain. By far the most pain a man can endure, sadly as so many of our Vietnam Vets know, is to come home and find no one wants him. In the end, as so many do, they end their days inside of a bottle, as "Rose" knows too well," says Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine.

George Jones, often referred to as the "the greatest living country singer" was on his farewell tour titled "The Grand Tour,” when he passed away. The icon’s hits, "I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair", "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes", "White Lightning" and "He Stopped Loving Her Today" will surely become standards for honky-tonk cover bands for years to come.

“The Voice” of Country Music fell silent with the passing of the iconic legend, George Jones in Nashville at the age of 81. Long recognized as country music’s most indescribable voice by not only the fans, but critics in all genres, the music world continues to mourn the loss of its’ finest stylist, who was considered the greatest living country singer.

A member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1956, George Jones achieved perhaps his greatest personal honor when he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992.

More than 35 years ago, as noted in his discography, George Jones recorded “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes?”, a song that posed the question of whether music newcomers would come along that could possibly walk in the steps of the progenitors and giants of country music. In light of the loss of this legendary voice, the question has never seemed more poignant.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the Grand Ole Opry trust fund:

SAYING GOODBYE: COUNTRY MUSIC PLACES A WREATH UPON IT'S DOOR WITH THE PASSING OF A LEGEND, GEORGE JONES.

It's a sad day in the world of country music today. We all awoke to the news that no one wanted to hear, that the legendary George Jones, "The Possum", has passed away. Country music has lost it's Elvis, it's King, one of it's most well known and deepest loved inspirations. George left his mark on not only country artists but on fans and celebrities of other fields as well. Here are some of the sentiments that we've seen today from those who loved George. Feel free to leave your own sentiment in the comments below and say your own personal goodbye to George. Thank you George for your love of tradition, your determination not to waiver in that tradition and for passing the lessons of what real country is about to those who loved you and love country music. Rest in peace, you've earned it. Go hug Tammy, blame it all on Waylon, have a talk with Johnny and say hello and thank you to the other legends up there that have made country what it is today, a legacy and a religion.

Mark Wills - "The first 8-tracks that I owned were recordings by Conway Twitty and George Jones. Long before my career got started, I was at a concert (Travis Tritt's homecoming show) and George Jones performed. I sat there and sang along to every word that George sang. A lady, who sat in front of me, turned around and said, 'do you know George Jones' music?' When my reply was, 'heck yeah,' she introduced herself; it was his wife, Nancy. Nancy brought me backstage that night to introduce me to George. That was three years before I signed my record deal and we've remained friends and stayed in touch since then. Right or wrong, in good times and in bad, people loved George Jones--he made an impression. His music is his legacy and he will not only be remembered as the best country singer this world will ever know, but a great man that we all will truly miss."

Lorrie Morgan -"Country music lost an icon today and I have lost a dear and beloved friend. With tear-filled eyes, I'm reminiscing this morning about all that I learned from and loved about George Jones. He was part of my 'country music education;' he made country music history and, in my opinion, George Jones is a song's best friend. No one will leave an imprint on my life like George did."

Travis Tritt - "I am just devastated by the news that George Jones has passed away! The music world has lost one of the most original and innovative talents that the world has ever known. I feel such a personal loss of not only one of the greatest vocal influences of my life, but also I've lost a dear friend. Visits with George have always been full of joy and laughter. Every time I would see him, George would always greet me with a funny story or a joke! His legacy will put his name at the top of the most influential artists in history, right along with Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. His voice will be influencing singers 100 years from now and beyond! I'm reminded of the lyrics that Waylon wrote in the tune "It's Alright". "If we all sang like we wanted to, we'd all sound like George Jones!"

Mark Chesnutt - "I have no words to express my admiration and love for George Jones. To say he was my 'hero' does not do justice to the lifetime impression he made on me, both personally and professionally. George Jones is the foundation of country music and he's the reason I wanted to perform. He's the reason I'm still here in this business... out there on the road. He was my mentor and my teacher; George was my friend. He paved the way for so many and I was one of the lucky ones to have enjoyed the opportunity to not only sing beside him, but just 'sit and visit' with him. When I was just starting out, we toured together; he was the headliner. After a few shows, he told me that I was going to close the shows (because he wanted to watch "Andy Griffith"). For a newcomer, it was intimidating to open for him; there was even more pressure to close for him. George gave me strength and encouragement; he kept telling me 'you can do it, son.' George Jones is the Father of Country. We will all miss his voice, and I will miss his voice to call me 'son.'"

Dierks Bentley via Twitter - "Nancy and @gjpossum had a beautiful marriage and special relationship. Love you Nancy. Long live the Possum. Gonna miss my buddy. Real sad."

John Rich via Twitter - "Every serious country artist in the past 30 years has some @gjpossum dna in their blood and music. My God. We've lost our Elvis."

Kix Brooks via Twitter - "Possum, angels got a serious lead singer today - God bless Nancy his loving wife - what a guy - what a voice - that was one hell of a show!"

Faith Hill - "We lost one of the best voices God created this morning. Our hearts are saddened to hear that George Jones has passed away ... Our thoughts and prayers are with Nancy and all of the family."

Tim McGraw - "Gone ...... George Jones .....man he was country music."

Neal McCoy - We lost a great man today,, but his Music and his Spirit will live forever Go get some Rest now George Jones ... you deserve it."

Barbara Mandrell - “I believe if you ask any singer who was the greatest country music singer of all time, they would say ‘George Jones’, he was without question and by far the BEST! I first met and worked with him when I was 13 years old; I am so very grateful that he was my friend.”

Blake Shelton - “Really REALLY bad news. We’ve lost a country music legend. And I’ve lost a hero and a friend. Goodbye George Jones…”

Alan Jackson - “Well, heaven better get ready for some great country music. While George was known for his wild and crazy days, I’ve known him for 25 years as a friend. He had grown into a real good man. Of course, he’ll always be the greatest singer and interpreter of real country music – there’ll never be another. Like the song says, ‘You know this old world is full of singers, but just a few are chosen to tear your heart out when they sing. Imagine life without them…Who’s gonna fill their shoes.’”

Despite recent Facebook rumors, the Legend is alive and welland looks forward to another strong year of touring

Nashville, TN (September 3, 2012) - George Jones is alive and well, and happy to be touring.  After performing two successful shows this weekend, Jones is scheduled to appear on average six to eight more shows each month continuing into 2013.

The legend states, "I love the road. I love the fans. I am just a singer and love to sing my songs.  Until I'm done I still don't need no rockin' chair.  Just gimme' that stage and I'll have at it".

After Jones' Saturday night concert in Massachusetts, MassLive.com reviewer George Lenker had this to say about Jones' fans: "They were there to share the space, be in the same room, and breathe the same air as a country music icon who they cherish." "Jones entered to a standing ovation and left to one..." Lenker continued, "He [is] also clearly still sharp mentally for his age and engaged in great stage banter with both his band and the audience." - Read the entire review at http://www.masslive.com/

In August, George Jones announced what will be his 2013 farewell tour for his fans, titled "The Grand Tour".  He decided he is ready to slow down after next year to spend more time with family.

ALL-STAR GALA PAYS TRIBUTE TO GEORGE JONES WHILE RAISING FUNDS FOR THE MIRACLE LEAGUE OF CYPRESS MOUNDS

Country Crooner inaugurated into Louisiana Hall of Fame at Event

Baton Rouge, LA (October 14, 2011) – On Monday, October 3, George Jones was honored at a tribute hosted by Louisiana personalities Hollywood Hal & Rhinestone Al. The event raised over $90,000 for The Miracle League of Cypress Mounds, a non-profit organization that helps children with mental and physical disabilities achieve their dreams and play baseball on a specially designed field.

It was a night to remember when children’s TV show characters, Hollywood Hal & Rhinestone Al, honored country music legend, George Jones. Hal & Al, formed by Scott Innes (radio host and voice of Scooby Doo and Shaggy) and Jim Hogg (longtime singer-songwriter,) organized the event and invited many of their fellow VIP guests to attend. The audience included notables such as Marty Raybon (former lead singer of Shenandoah,) Richie McDonald (former lead singer of Lonestar,) Marty Roe (lead singer for Diamond Rio,) Mike Reno (lead singer for Loverboy,) and Jimi Johnson (former lead singer of Survivor.) Mr. Jones also received a special video message from Ronnie Dunn. As Mr. Jones took the stage, he received a standing ovation from the crowd in addition to a 3-D birthday cake in recognition of his 80th Birthday.

One of the highlights of the evening came when Mike Shepherd, Chairman of The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, inducted Jones into The Hall of Fame. Mayor of Baton Rouge, Kip Holden, followed up by giving Jones a key to their city and a special signed document in his honor from Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.

The George Jones Live Auction was a huge hit. A signed Jones guitar went for $17,000, an LSU jersey also signed by Jones with his name on the back went for $4,500, and a custom Jones rocking chair sold for $5,000. Last year the event raised $60,000 and this year it is said to have made over $90,000. The Miracle League of Cypress Mounds is planning on purchasing bleachers, dugouts, and a scoreboard with the proceeds.
