GEORGE STRAIT KICKS OFF SUMMER OF STADIUMS WITH TWO-RECORD SETTING PERFORMANCES

George Strait Performs to a Record-Setting 46,641 Fans at Milwaukee’s American Family Field

The King of Country continues his reign as “the genre’s most consistent A-list act,” as declared by the Los Angeles Times, setting back-to-back venue attendance records with his two most recent shows. George Strait brought a record-setting 46,641 attendees to Milwaukee’s American Family Field on Saturday evening (besting Paul McCartney’s 2013 record by over 2,000 people). The standout show came on the heels of last weekend’s record-setting 63,891 attendees at Columbus’s Ohio Stadium for Buckeye Country Superfest.

“With support from the 11-member ‘Ace in the Hole’ band, Strait’s setlist in Milwaukee was nicely plotted, frequently going back and forth between somber songs and playful tunes,” praised the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel of Strait’s 32 songs over more than two hours on Saturday evening. “He let storytelling seize the spotlight, expressed with a golden croon that showed no strain while offering enough emotional nuance to embody the material.”

“We have been fortunate to have a number of fantastic shows at American Family Field since we opened our doors. Our expectations for George Strait, Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town were very high and those expectations were blown away,” shared Jason Hartlund, executive vice president/chief commercial officer for the Milwaukee Brewers. “We set venue records for concert attendance and gross ticket revenue, among others. The Brewers have worked with Messina Touring Group for over a decade and have always enjoyed the relationship. We look forward to working together on many future shows at American Family Field.”

The record-setting concerts followed the Country Music Hall of Famer’s recent headlining performance at Phoenix’s State Farm Stadium (May 6) and set the stage for a summer of stadium shows to come, with dates to follow in Seattle (June 17), Denver (June 24), Nashville (July 28 & 29) and Tampa (Aug. 5).

“We truly have the best fans in the world. There’s nothing like seeing their faces when I walk on stage with my Ace in the Hole band jamming to ‘Deep in the Heart of Texas,’” shared Strait. “The energy they’re giving back to us is indescribable. I’m very grateful to all of the fans who come out to see us for these shows and I can’t wait to see you at the next one.”

GEORGE STRAIT RELEASES POWERFUL NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR “THE WEIGHT OF THE BADGE” IN HONOR OF FIRST RESPONDERS

hoto Credit: David McClister

In honor of First Responders Day, today, Oct. 28, country music superstar George Strait releases a powerful new music video for “The Weight of the Badge” as a tribute to first responders. The video focuses on stories and moments with some of our nation’s first responders and their families, giving some insight on what it means to live every day bearing the weight of the badge.

“The men and women in this music video are our friends and neighbors who carry the weight of the badge each day,” says Strait in the video. “Thank you. We appreciate you and the sacrifices you and your families make.”

The video made a special premiere last night at the First Responders Children’s Foundation 20th anniversary gala in New York City with many of the first responders featured in the video in attendance.

“The Weight of the Badge”
Written by George Strait, Bubba Strait and Dean Dillon

It’s gonna be a long one, another graveyard shift
As he says goodbye to his wife and kids
It’s been his life, just like his dad’s
Driving away under the weight of the badge

He’s seen it all in his fifteen years
Watching our backs, facing our fears
Lord knows it ain’t no easy task
Keeping us safe under the weight of the badge

He swore that oath to protect and serve
Pours his heart and soul into both those words
Lays his life on the line
And the line he walks is razor fine
Tempered strength is always tough
But he ain’t gonna buckle under the weight of the badge

Not that long ago, he woke up in the hospital
With his wife and kids, praying by his bed
He said, I’m gonna be alright, there’s just sometimes you gotta fight
And the truth is nothing truer could be said
I do it for us and I do it for them
And I ain’t gonna buckle under the weight of the badge

It doesn’t weigh a lot
Until you put it on
Then the weight of it is staggering
When duty calls each time
He knows, he’s gotta answer
And it’s all in the handling of the weight
Oh, the heavy weight of the badge
And he ain’t gonna buckle under the weight of the badge

No, he ain’t gonna buckle under the weight of the badge

Also launching today is TheWeightOfTheBadge.com, a site inviting people to share their stories and gratitude for the first responders in their lives.

With an unmatched 60 singles hitting the top of the charts—more than any other artist in any genre—during the span of his 30+ year career, Strait has collected 33 Platinum or multi-Platinum-selling albums, more than any other Country artist and ranking third across all genres behind The Beatles and Elvis Presley. GEORGE STRAIT TO MAKE MUSIC HISTORY WITH NEXT CHAPTER, BEGINNING APRIL 7

30 No. 1’s Friday, April 7 and 30 No. 1’s Saturday, April 8 + fan-favorite hits including “Amarillo By Morning” and “Troubadour” for one weekend only at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas

With a North American record-setting final tour stop sell-out at AT&T Stadium on his The Cowboy Rides Away Tour, 104,793 fans helped multiple ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year George Strait bring one chapter of his inimitable touring career to a close, but the book is far from over for the iconic artist who continues to rank among country music's most-streamed artists, logging more than four billion audio streams and counting as of this week.

In 2015, Strait revealed he would perform a series of exclusive worldwide engagements at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas that commenced last April and continue through 2017, including his most recent sold-out dates with Kacey Musgraves. The two Texans closed the Strait To Vegas shows by playing for a capacity crowd of more than 33,000 people between Feb. 17 and 18.

During the closing weekend, Musgraves sat down with Strait to ask him fan-submitted questions via Facebook Live, where he shared things like his bucket list item of fishing in Cuba and his first memory of playing in Las Vegas. But the primary question on every fan’s mind was: “What is the future of his live concerts?”

Strait answered their question: the reputable country star revealed that his exclusive performances in Las Vegas will continue -- with a twist. Strait has announced that he will shake things up with an unprecedented two nights of No. 1’s beginning with his April 7-8 shows. With an unmatched 60 singles hitting the top of the charts during the span of his career and more than 283,000 fans streaming Strait's "60 #1 Hits" playlist on Spotify every month, the King of Country wanted to share these radio hits plus several fan-favorites such as “Amarillo By Morning” and “Troubadour” that, surprisingly to many, never reached No. 1. During Strait’s upcoming 2 Nights of Number 1’s, he will play 30 No. 1 hits Friday, April 7 and 30 No. 1 hits Saturday, April 8, in addition to those “can’t miss” classics.

“I think some fans would throw something at me if I didn’t play those,” Strait noted with his signature grin. "We're going to try this out in April and change it up for those shows, then see how it goes. It's important to me to hear what the fans think and take it from there."

Strait elaborated,"We're going to be rehearsing, I would say 25 songs that we haven't played in years, so this should be fun!"

Speaking of hits, his Strait Out of the Box: Part 2 is available now. The impressive three-disc, 56-track collection features 36 hit singles - including 26 No. 1’s - plus two new songs co-written by Strait, along with 18 choice album cuts. Strait Out of the Box: Part 2 spans 20 years of Strait’s career from 1996 to 2016 and follows the highly successful, 8x Platinum-selling 1995 release, Strait Out of the Box.

Ticketing information is available at StraitToVegas.com.

This is the first new studio album in two years from the MCA Nashville recording artist. His last studio album was the Gold-certified Love is Everything, which featured the Platinum-certified No. 1 hit (and 60th No. 1 hit of his career) “Give It All We Got Tonight” as well as the Gold-certified hit “I Got A Car.” Strait also released The Cowboy Rides Away: Live from AT&T Stadium CD and DVD in 2014, celebrating his mega-successful, two-year final tour.

Strait’s final tour was never meant to convey his final performance, however. Also announced in today’s press conference, Strait will perform a series of exclusive worldwide concert engagements at the new Las Vegas Arena opening in April 2016. The Country Music Hall of Fame inductee will be among the first entertainers to perform at the new venue, with four shows beginning April 22 and additional dates slated for April 23, September 9 and September 10, 2016. Opening for Strait will be GRAMMY, ACM and CMA Award-winning singer/songwriter Kacey Musgraves, who recently released her second studio album Pageant Material to critical acclaim.

“I said all along I wasn’t going to tour anymore, but I also said that I wasn’t retiring by any means and I still wanted to do some dates,” Strait said during the press conference. “I’ve been working a little bit here and there, and I’m really proud of this new album that’s coming out. . . I think it’s a great record – I always say this; I think it’s one of the best records I’ve done. I always shoot for that. You’ve got to go in the studio thinking that way, so I’m very excited about that and I’m also very excited to be coming back out and playing for the fans out there. I’m looking forward to it so much, singing those songs that I love so much and haven’t done in a while. I’m really, really looking forward to being able to play in the new Las Vegas Arena. I hear it’s just unbelievable. I can’t wait.”

Tickets for the concert series will go on sale Friday, Oct. 2 at 10:00 a.m. PT via www.straittovegas.com and range in price from $75 to $200 plus applicable fees. American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Friday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. PT through Thursday, Oct. 1 at 10 p.m. PT.

With 60 No. 1 singles and more than 68.5 million records sold, George Strait is a musical legend and the most-nominated artist in CMA Awards history, with a career spanning more than three decades. He was the first country music artist honored with Billboard’s “Legend Of Live” Award, and he earned 2013’s Entertainer of the Year title from the Country Music Association as well as 2014’s Entertainer Of The Year title from the Academy of Country Music.

WAY BACK WHEN WEDNESDAY - "I CAN STILL MAKE CHEYENNE" - GEORGE STRAIT

Contributor: Alyse Smith

It’s almost downright frigid outside but inside we’ve got blankets, fires and whiskey.  Perhaps this song choice should’ve been “The Fireman” because that sounds like a near-lethal if warm combination.  Hopefully, it’s warm wherever this reaches you, dear reader.  Not even Thanksgiving yet and the snow and ice have prevailed bringing with them single digit temperatures and wicked winds.  A warmer weekend bodes less of a bite in the wind and more than a nip of something to keep the fires within us stoked.

This week’s feature, “I Can Still Make Cheyenne” has been one of my George Strait favorites for as long as I can remember.  The aptly named King George has had a tremendous olio of hits so deciding what curries favor over another is a difficult process indeed.  “I Can Still Make Cheyenne” was written by Aaron Barker and Erv Woolsey and released on Strait’s 1996 “Blue Clear Sky” album.  Barker has written for Strait since ’88 and continued a presence on Strait’s albums right up until the cowboy rode away.  Not only has he written for the King of country music, he’s also written for the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley.  A singer-songwriter himself, Barker is now focusing on his own music.  Those that have written for multi-genre royalty are a rarity so make sure if you ever have the opportunity to catch a show not to miss out!  Still engaging in the music business from the business side of it, Woolsey remains Strait’s manager since the early days of his career.

“I Can Still Make Cheyenne” is about a cowboy torn between his two loves, bull-riding and the woman on the end of the line.  The adrenaline-fueled life leaves nothing but loneliness when those 8 seconds are over so he calls her tells her he’s alright and he’s coming home.  She’s not waiting any longer because she found someone that’s home and she doesn’t have to worry about.  As she had made the decision for him, his heart broke but for a moment before he headed onto Cheyenne.  He doesn’t fault her decision nor the time they’d had together, he simply tells her he’ll miss her and heads on his way.  Though not a happy song, it would appear they both go after what they want most.
