BEACHLIFE RANCH: BRANDI CARLILE, DIERKS BENTLEY AND MORE SEPTEMBER 16-18 IN REDONDO BEACH, CA

BeachLife Festival, Southern California’s premier three-day live music, art, and culinary experience, is proud to announce its 2022 return to Seaside Lagoon in Redondo Beach, CA on September 16-18 for the first annual BeachLife Ranch Country & Americana festival.

The initial music lineup for BeachLife Ranch includes The Lumineers, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Brandi Carlile, Dierks Bentley, Wilco, Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real, and a very special performance of Songs Of Waylon Jennings, featuring Shooter Jennings & surprise guests. Look for the full list of music artists to be announced in the coming weeks.

Weekend tickets for BeachLife Ranch are on sale now at www.BeachLifeRanch.com.

BeachLife Ranch follows the success of BeachLife Festival, which established itself in 2019 as a boutique, family-friendly beach party focused on Southern California’s surf and skate culture. This year’s sold out BeachLife Festival (May 13-15) featured performances from iconic music artists including The Smashing Pumpkins, Steve Miller Band, Weezer, Sheryl Crow, 311 and more.

Due to demand from the Southern California community and music fans around the world, BeachLife producers created BeachLife Ranch for fall 2022. The festival will feature country, Americana, and outlaw country artists performing on the picturesque waterfront of the Pacific Ocean.

BeachLife Ranch co-founder / producer Allen Sanford said, “We’re excited to celebrate the ‘cowboy surfer’ way of life — making memories, weekend barbecuing and listening to tunes, whether on a ranch or at the beach. This festival is inspired by growing up in Southern California and spending summers in Central California trail riding on horses all day, then coming home to wash up for a sunset BBQ of Santa Maria tri-tip with all the fixins. It’s different from surf & skate beach culture, but the vibe is the same, and something we want to celebrate: love and respect for the outdoors, nature, friends and community. We invite you to the only major country and Americana festival on the beach in Southern California.”

BeachLife’s exclusive dining SideStage Experience will also return to BeachLife Ranch with a southern flair featuring smoked meats and BBQ options, with a bit of “Texas heat” influencing the top-notch cuisine. The SideStage Experience is the best seat in the house to dine, providing guests the opportunity to be seated onstage while their favorite musicians perform and enjoy a four-course meal from a celebrity chef, with the Pacific Ocean as the backdrop. Steve Baltin of Forbes proclaimed, “Located on a platform adjacent to the main stage, known as the HighTide stage, the dinner or brunch is one of the best VIP deals at any festival in America.”

BeachLife Festival and BeachLife Ranch are proud to support the Los Angeles South Bay community via philanthropy, as well as eco-friendly and sustainable initiatives, specifically related to the preservation of beaches and oceans, as well as the local community. With a number of national and local nonprofit organizations as philanthropic partners, BeachLife features onsite activations to drive awareness and raise funds for these important causes.

Weekend tickets for BeachLife Ranch are on sale now at www.BeachLifeRanch.com. 3-Day General Admission passes can be purchased for $299. BeachLife Ranch is also offering a new ticket type, General Admission Plus, for $379, which provides festival entry for three days along with unlimited ins and outs for patrons. 3-Day VIP passes are available for $699 and the 3-day Admiral Passes are $995, offering an assortment of new and upgraded amenities. In addition, the exclusive 3-Day Outlaw Pass includes perks such as a hosted bar, private bungalows, and valet parking for $2999. For added luxury, space, and privacy, BeachLife Ranch also offers private cabana suites for larger groups & parties available for purchase.

BeachLife Festival is located at 137 N. Harbor Drive, Redondo Beach, CA 90277.

DAVID STARR TEAMS UP WITH JOHN OATES AND JIM LAUDERDALE FOR NEW VIDEO "ROAD TO JUBILEE”

David Starr has released a new music video for “Road to Jubilee” featuring John Oates and Jim Lauderdale. Both Oates and Lauderdale are co-writers on Starr’s upcoming record, "Beauty & Ruin", with Oates overseeing production.

"Beauty & Ruin" is inspired by Of What Was, Nothing Is Left, a novel written by David's grandfather, in 1972. The final book Fred Starr published before his death, Of What Was, Nothing Is Left is a story of tragedy, family dysfunction, and denial set in rural southwest Arkansas. Along with Beauty & Ruin’s release, David has republished an updated version of the novel, with an additional forward and afterword.

After working with Oates on his 2017 "The Head & Heart" EP, David approached him with the following idea: what if we gave several of our favorite songwriters a copy of the book and asked them to write for a concept album based on the story?

The idea was not so much for them to retell the story, but to write songs inspired by the places, characters and situations found in the book. Along with Oates and Lauderdale, contributors to the project include Dana Cooper, Doug and Telisha Williams (Wild Ponies), Irene Kelley, Wood Newton, and Shelley Rae Korntved.

A true Americana story, exploring human nature and all its flaws, the novel inspired these artists to mine their own history and life experience. The project hammers home the importance of storytelling, our country’s oral traditions, by pushing Fred Starr’s words forward and giving them new life.

"Beauty & Ruin" is set for release on February 21, 2020, with pre-orders available now.

JOHN OATES RELEASES "GOOD ROAD TO FOLLOW" 3 DISC - 15 SONG MUSICAL JOURNEY ON MARCH 18

PRESS RELEASE

March 4, 2014, Nashville, TN…Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, John Oates, will release his latest solo project Good Road To Follow (PS Records / Elektra Records) on March 18, 2014. What started as a yearlong series of digital singles has culminated in a three-disc set of genre-specific EPs aptly named Route 1, Route 2, and Route 3. Unrestricted by musical barriers, Oates has collaborated with some of the world’s brightest music makers on the cross-genre musical trip, ranging from Grammy winning songwriter/producer/rocker Ryan Tedder of One Republic, to pop band Hot Chelle Rae, to country music icon Vince Gill, to Americana legends Jerry Douglas and Jim Lauderdale.

The lead single “Stone Cold Love” was written, performed and produced with One Republic front man, Ryan Tedder, at his studio in Denver, CO.

"This project has been a labor of love," Oates explains. "Almost every song was recorded with a different producer and a different co-writer, so I got to step into the worlds of so many creative and inspiring people. Some of whom I have worked with in the past and some folks that I’d never met. I reached out to the songwriters, musicians and producers that I respect and asked them if they would work with me on one individual song. Each song became an intense and focused creative experience...it was a pure collaboration from beginning to end.”

In addition to releasing a new album, Oates will be inducted with Daryl Hall into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April and will be touring throughout 2014.

*EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW* - A FEW MINUTES WITH JOHN OATES

We were given the great opportunity to sit down with the legendary John Oates before his show with Daryl Hall at the DPAC in Durham, NC last week and it was great to hear some history of his incredible career and what he's got in the works. He's more than just a pop icon, he's got his hands in a little of everything. He's got some strong connections to country music that you might not be aware of. That's why we wanted to feature him in an interview, so you can get to know more about John than you think you know. What a great guy! Thank you John for being so gracious with your time, taking it right up until showtime! Thank you Ingrid for conducting a great interview for us and for showing grace under pressure. (this interview almost didn't happen due to timing but John was determined to do it in such a short, rushed amount of time. He's awesome!)

Check out his website, www.johnoates.com for some great updates and information on his new single, "Stand Strong" and his new project, "A Good Road To Follow".

Daryl Hall and John Oates performed at the DPAC in Durham, NC tonight and John was gracious enough to sit down with our Raleigh team member, Ingrid, and catch up for a bit on what's been going on. We'll post that interview as soon as it's edited and ready to go, but John was so nice to do a video shout out to support our site. We appreciate him so much for taking the time out of his busy schedule to publicly put his stamp of approval on what we do. Y'all go check him out at www.johnoates.com. He's one of music's best artists and has lots of new stuff coming down the pipe that you're gonna love, including a collaboration with Vince Gill. He's already connected with Jimmy Wayne through Jimmy's remake of the Hall and Oates classic, "Sara Smiles". When you think of John, you may think pop but he's got closer ties to country than you might imagine.

A GOOD ROAD TO FOLLOW

John Oates’ latest project is a collection of original songs that will be released once a month in a series of digital singles. The styles of the tracks cross many musical genres and each has a unique story. All of the songs are written or co-written by Oates with exciting collaborations with top artists and producers including: Vince Gill, Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic), Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift), Hot Chelle Rae, Tommy Simms (Eric Clapton), Bleu McAuley, Mike Henderson (Steel Drivers), Tom Bukovac, Teddy Morgan (Kevin Costner) Pete Huttlinger and Tim Lauer. He was also able to work with Nashville songwriting legends like Pat Alger, Craig Wiseman and Jim Lauderdale.

Why a series of singles? “At this point it seems that the album, as a medium, is quickly becoming a thing of the past,” Oates explains. “Don’t get me wrong, I love listening to an album’s worth of music, but the digital world has given people the freedom to download and create their own personal playlists.” He is encouraged that the music business has come full circle and returned to being driven by singles but in a modern way.
Not having to think about an album as a cohesive group of songs has given John the freedom to write and produce music that appeals to his wide range of influences and tastes. On this project the listener will hear everything from roots blues, modern pop and contemporary country to experimental Americana, folk and Philly Soul.

“I reached out to the songwriters, musicians and producers that I respect and asked them if they would work with me on one individual song. It was a pure collaboration from writing to recording,” he recalls. “My idea was to share an intense creative experience and not get bogged down in a long drawn out album project.” John says that on this project he has had the pleasure of working with his old friends while making many new friends, creatively, along the way.

John feels now that the idea has taken root, the list of musical partners could most definitely grow. “Who knows, this could be a recording project that never ends and that is a very ‘Good Road to Follow’…”

CD Review: "Mississippi Mile" - John Oates

CD: "Mississippi Mile"
Artist: John Oates
Release Date: April 12, 2011

Being a child of the 80's, I've always been a huge fan of Daryl Hall and John Oates, both as a duo and as solo artists. When I heard that John was releasing a solo "Americana/Country" cd, I knew I had to review this one. I wasn't sure what to expect as John is such a versatile artist, always pulling rabbits out of his hat, but I knew it would be top shelf and uniquely John. Well, this has to be the largest rabbit he's pulled out of that hat yet. The cd can only be described as deep southern soul with a dash of unexpected bluesy twang. What a unique mix of vocal styles rolled into a single cd. This definitely isn't pop, it isn't exactly country, and not exclusively blues ... it's just refreshingly good music.

If you're expecting the typical sound of "Oates" from Hall and Oates, you're not gonna hear that here. You're probably gonna drop your jaw at what you do hear, a coarse, raw exposed side of John Oates, one that instantly reflects his love of good music and his exceptional talent of taking a song and making it sound like something that is the furthest thing from what you think you're gonna hear. He puts a special touch of Philly soul and Delta blues on his music that has yet to be duplicated and this cd is no exception. The fusion of unique spin and originality that he puts into this selection of cover songs and his personal compositions is the ideal combination of the musical creativity we've come to expect from John Oates.

The toe tappin', soul infused title track, "Mississippi Mile" kicks off a list of 12 songs that take you on a mental journey to the deep south, Memphis and New Orleans. If you close your eyes, you can almost envision John sitting in a musical jam session with swamp blues legends such as BB King, Willie Nix and Joe Hill Louis. The songs on this project are as southern as southern gets, I'm talking "cornbread, black eyed peas and crawdads pulled from the bayou" southern The coolest thing about this cd is that it's not just straight out blues, it's definitely got a country feel to it and it blends the two perfectly. Oates also includes unique covers of hit songs such as "All Shook Up" by Elvis Presley, but trust me, it's not your everyday recognizable karaoke cover. This is a fantastic personal rendition of a classic song that is so good, it'll make you wanna bypass your mama and slap your grandma instead. He also does a fun, snappy version of his own hit song, "You Make My Dreams Come True" done in a style very similar to Joe Cocker. I'm gonna stop with these 3 songs and just tell you to go take a listen yourself, judge for yourself. I love the cd because it's like NOTHING on the market now, nothing you'll hear 400 times a day on the radio. It's simple, yet complex, true to his roots music.

You can purchase "Mississippi Mile" on Amazon.com and if you purchase on iTunes, you will get a free bonus track!

CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED MUSICIAN JOHN OATES RELEASES AMERICANA ALBUM, MISSISSIPPI MILE, ON APRIL 12

PRESS RELEASE: CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED MUSICIAN JOHN OATES RELEASES AMERICANA ALBUM, MISSISSIPPI MILE, ON APRIL 12

NASHVILLE, TN – (March 16, 2011) – Behind every great musician, there is a pinnacle moment of inspiration that has a resounding influence on the musician they are today. Long before critically acclaimed musician John Oates became one-half of the award-winning duo Hall & Oates, he was reveling in the American classics of artists such as Chuck Berry and Mississippi John Hurt.

Mississippi Mile, available everywhere on April 12, emanates Oates’ musical autobiography; stringing together the heavy influences of classic hits with his distinct Americana Blues sound and musical talents.

“This album is about honoring the tradition of the song itself,” Oates explains. “I wanted to go back to the songs that really shaped me when I was growing up. I wouldn’t be the musician that I am today without these songs. It’s a stripped-down effort to showcase what the song was before it ever made it on the record and became a hit. The music you hear on Mississippi Mile is as close to a live album as it gets.”

The tracks on Mississippi Mile directly capture what Oates and the musicians played on the first take in the studio, with the exception of only two overdubs, giving the record a live album feel. The strong group of musicians--which include renowned performers such as Bekka Bramlett, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas and co-producer Mike Henderson, to name a few--help Mississippi Mile reach a diverse level of sound unlike any other record to date.

The 12-track album chronicles Oates’ musical inspirations from Curtis Mayfield’s “It’s Allright” to Allen Fraser’s “Dance Hall Girls” and even the Hall & Oates classic “You Make My Dreams Come True,” all intertwining elements of Oates’ authentic roots sound. “Deep River” was penned by Oates about the Nashville flood, while paying homage to Doc Watson’s “Deep River Blues.” The album’s title-track is the other Oates original song, kicking-off the album with reverence to his strong respect for classic American music.

“’Mississippi Mile’ is about the music that comes from the heart of the Delta,” Oates said. “There’s something very unique and important about the music that comes that geographic area that has become the foundation of all American popular music. This song is one of those songs that can be stripped away from the entire record and still stand on its own.”

Grammy-nominated artist and American Songwriter Hall of Fame member, John Oates, is one-half of the most successful duo in rock history, Hall & Oates. He has penned over eight No. 1 hits with “Sarah Smile,” “You Make My Dreams,” “She’s Gone,” “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do),” “Maneater” and “Out of Touch.” He has received numerous American Music and MTV Awards, as well as the BMI Icon Award for the duo’s outstanding career achievement in songwriting. In the last few years, Oates has created the annual concert series, 7908 The Aspen Songwriters Festival, at the Historic Wheeler Opera House in Aspen, CO.
