UNDERRATED AND OVERLOOKED AND MAKING 2013 THEIR YEAR

2012 was the year of the usuals - Carrie, Taylor, Luke, Jason, Kenny, and I could go on and on. You know, the same songs over and over again every time you turn on the radio. Don't get me wrong, they're all outstanding but it's time for some variety and to give others a chance to shine. I have a feeling that 2013 is gonna be a breakout year for those artists who are just as good (some even better if we're being honest) that are gonna make their mark and finally get the attention they've earned. The best thing about country music fans is that they don't wear blinders, they know there are a lot of great artists out there that are underrated and overlooked and they aren't afraid to speak up for them and get their music out there. Let's request these songs on radio, tell people about them, buy their music, do what we can to support them and be that voice they need to get that attention. Here are some of our favorites that we are sure we'll be hearing great new music from in 2013.

CONCERT REVIEW: KRTY 20TH BIRTHDAY PARTY FEATURING MIRANDA LAMBERT, CHRIS YOUNG, PISTOL ANNIES, JT HODGS, JERROD NIEMANN, KRISTEN KELLY

Concert: KRTY 20th Birthday Party
Artists: Miranda Lambert, Pistol Annies, Jerrod Niemann, Chris Young, JT Hodges, Kristen Kelly, Frankie Ballard
Venue: Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View, CA
Date: April 27, 2012

First and foremost, we'd like to say thank you to our west coast team members, Tiffany and Ann Marie, for reporting back to us with the details of this show so we can bring you a great review. They also conducted the interviews with Jerrod Niemann and JT Hodges for us which you can see on our Artist Interviews page.

KRTY  knows good country and they also know how to throw one hell of a party like they did for their 20th Birthday Party at Shoreline Amphitheatre on April 27th. They brought in an amazing lineup including headliner Miranda Lambert with supporting artists Chris Young, Jerrod Niemann, JT Hodges, Kristen Kelly and Frankie Ballard. Their recognition and willingness to play great new music like these artists is why fans keep tuning in everyday and supporting the station like they do. I wish all country stations would take a cue from KRTY and see the there is life beyond Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan. They're amazing artists, but there are so many other unheard of up and comers that KRTY puts in the spotlight and that makes them a cut above the rest in our book.

Since there were alot of artists, we'll try to keep it short and simple with the highlights of each artist's performance and their set list. We don't want you getting bored or lost in translation here!

JT Hodges, Kristen Kelly and Frankie Ballard rocked the side stage before the big Miranda show. These new artists can always bring fans to their feet and this show was no difference.

JT HODGES: The ladies love some JT and you can tell by the smile on his face in our photo gallery that he's kinda diggin' on that fact. That's what makes him one of People Country's Hottest Country Male Artists. He's humble about that but we know he secretly loves it. What's NOT sexy about him - his piercing eyes, his dark and rugged good looks and his awesome sense of humor. Just ask him about beef jerky! He gave the crowd his all and they gave it right back to him. He sang a set list of actually all of my favorite JT songs and I missed it! The audience really revved up when he broke out his new single, "Goodbyes Made You Mine". No worries though, he wasn't saying goodbye to anyone in this crowd. They were settling in for a long night of great music!

Set List: Better be Wrong than Lonely, Hunt You Down, Sleepy Little Town, Hurts So Good (cover), Goodbyes Made You Mine

KRISTEN KELLY: New on the scene is Kristen Kelly. With one song, "Ex Old Man", rising up the charts, you won't be asking "who?" for very long. Kristen is a fresh face with a powerful voice and she had the crowd continuously on their feet and moving for her performance. Keep your ears open for more from this one, she's not going anywhere.

Set List: Drink Myself out of Love with You, Signs, He Loves to Make me Cry, Ex Old Man

FRANKIE BALLARD: Because of the timing of our interviews with Jerrod and JT, we were unable to attend Frankie's set. Sorry! I know we missed a great set!

JERROD NIEMANN: Ok, can I just say we LOVE this guy? Jerrod is so much fun and man can he sang! He had a great set full of energy, charisma and that special charm that only JRodFromOz can project to an audience. He sang a great set list including his latest, "Shinin' on Me". Something's shinin' on him for sure because country is eating his music up! Funny story about the song "Bakersfield". The subject of the song's name is Tiffany, our west coast team member's name is Tiffany, coincidence? I think not. This song was all about her. LOL!

Set List: Real Women Drink Beer - song off new album, One More Drinking Song, Bakersfield, Shining on Me, What Do You Want, Lover, Lover

CHRIS YOUNG: Dear Lord, where can I even start with Chris Young? There is just something deeply sexy about this man, not just in his looks but in everything he does, his voice, his music. He's got that "it" factor and the crowd loves whatever "it" is. With vocals as smooth as butter, he can make the most drunk, mile a minute talker in the room shut up for a 3 minute song. He IS a true "Nashville Star".

Set List: Save Water Drink Beer, Gettin You Home, Lost, The Man I Want to Be, Signed Sealed Delivered I'm Yours, Voices, I Can Take It From Here, Who's Gonna Take Me Home, Tomorrow

PISTOL ANNIES: The only words I have for them is BAD ASS! These girls truly are hell on heels and they're coming for you so keep requesting their music! The crowd LOVED them!

Set List: Hell on Heels, Bad Example, Happy Hunting, Lemon Drop,Taking Pills

MIRANDA LAMBERT: This pint sized pistol can put on one HELL of a show. There isn't anything not to like about Miranda. She's feisty, cute, spunky and ready to spit fire to the first one that crosses her. Speaking of fire, she set this stage ablaze with her hits and a special visit from her husband, Blake Shelton.

Set List: Fastest Girl In Town, Kerosene, A Heart Like Mine, Over You, Baggage Claim, Dead Flowers, All Kinds of Kind, Small Town, Only Prettier, Mama's Broke Heart, House that Built Me, Gun Powder & Lead, White Liar

Highlight of Miranda's set: She said "I'm getting to do a show with my hubby tomorrow night for the first time in a long time. I'm not that great at singing his songs. So she sang a bit of "Honey Bee" chorus. then asked the crowd  "wouldn't it be nice if Blake just came out here and sang it for you?". So out walked Blake. Miranda left the stage and then came back on to sing the last verse with him. He gave her a kiss before he walked off stage and the crowd went insane!

ENCORE: Miranda, Pistol Annies, Chris Young and Jerrod Niemann all took the stage for an encore jam of King of the Road along with all band members. Now THIS was awesome!
