Kristy Lee Cook’s newest single “Lookin’ For A Cowgirl” is a song lauding the cowgirls, saying I know what you’re looking for, this is what I am.  If nothing else, one has to love a song that makes the rhyming connection of camo and ammo.  I’m surprised that’s not happened before.  The memorable line here is “Sugar and spice sure mix in nice when you mix it with a little bit of fire and ice.”  Kristy Lee speaks of the women of country music, the ones that seem all sweet but that you’d hate to piss off, like Miranda Lambert.  Seems sweet as can be and I’d love to meet her but I really wouldn’t want to get on her bad side.  To illustrate the “spice” she speaks of the background beckons a harder rock sound rather than a traditional country sound.

If the name Kristy Lee Cook pulls at a memory from years past, it’s because she was on American Idol in 2008 (finished 7th!) and has released previous singles “15 Minutes Of Shame” and “Airborne Ranger Infantry.”  The woman that Kristy Lee sings about struts confidently throughout the story animatedly assuring her new love interest that she’s what he’s into.  After all, she’s kind of a big deal how could he not be?  I love the straight-up cockiness of this song.  The “Don’t worry I got this” that streams forth is contagious.  I have no doubt that Kristy Lee will work her way onto radio, up the charts and into whosever heart she wants to.

UNDERRATED AND OVERLOOKED AND MAKING 2013 THEIR YEAR

2012 was the year of the usuals - Carrie, Taylor, Luke, Jason, Kenny, and I could go on and on. You know, the same songs over and over again every time you turn on the radio. Don't get me wrong, they're all outstanding but it's time for some variety and to give others a chance to shine. I have a feeling that 2013 is gonna be a breakout year for those artists who are just as good (some even better if we're being honest) that are gonna make their mark and finally get the attention they've earned. The best thing about country music fans is that they don't wear blinders, they know there are a lot of great artists out there that are underrated and overlooked and they aren't afraid to speak up for them and get their music out there. Let's request these songs on radio, tell people about them, buy their music, do what we can to support them and be that voice they need to get that attention. Here are some of our favorites that we are sure we'll be hearing great new music from in 2013.

Country Rewind: "15 Minutes of Shame" - Kristy Lee Cook

In case you aren't familiar with Kristy Lee Cook, she was a seventh place finalist on American Idol during Season 7. You might remember her as "the girl who sold her horse to get to the auditions". She is the total package - beauty, brains, talent and she hunts! She can be seen on the Versus network series Goin’ Country, which showcases both her hunting skills and her musical talent. She's currently working on her Broken Bow Records debut cd which should hopefully be out pretty soon! This is her debut hit, "15 Minutes of Shame" from 2008.
