TOBY KEITH, ALABAMA & BILLY GIBBONS OF ZZ TOP ADDED TO ALL-STAR CONCERT CELEBRATION HONORING MERLE HAGGARD

SING ME BACK HOME: THE MUSIC OF MERLE HAGGARD
AN ALL-STAR CONCERT CELEBRATION
TO BE HELD AT NASHVILLE’S BRIDGESTONE ARENA ON APRIL 6, 2017

LIMITED NUMBER OF TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE AT TICKETMASTER

Toby Keith, Alabama & Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top have been added to the all-star lineup at Sing Me Back Home: The Music Of Merle Haggard, previously reported by The Tennessean. The event is an all-star concert event taping at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 7:00 P.M. CT in honor of what would have been Merle’s 80th birthday and the one-year anniversary of his passing. This one-night-only concert event taping will bring together fans, friends, and music icons to honor the life and songs of music legend Merle Haggard.

The new additions to the lineup join previously announced performing artists Willie Nelson, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, John Mellencamp, Dierks Bentley, Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams Jr., The Avett Brothers, Alison Krauss, Ronnie Dunn, Warren Haynes, Jamey Johnson, Kacey Musgraves, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lucinda Williams, Ben Haggard, John Anderson, Connie Smith and Bobby Bare. Additional performers to be announced in the coming weeks.

In a career that spanned more than 50 years, Merle Haggard racked up an astounding 38 No. 1 country hits and every major award imaginable. Songs like “Mama Tried,” “Okie From Muskogee,” “I’m a Lonesome Fugitive” and “The Fightin’ Side Of Me” continue to inspire new generations of artists and fans alike, and as we approach what would have been a major milestone, the time has come to celebrate his truly remarkable career. He was an iconoclast who refused to bend to country music convention and helped create the indelible Bakersfield sound. He gave voice to outlaws and outsiders and in a way that few, if any, have ever equaled.

A limited number of tickets for this all-star concert event are currently available at ticketmaster.com, by phone at 800-745-3000, all Ticketmaster locations and the Bridgestone Arena box office.

Keith Wortman, Mark Rothbaum and Theresa Haggard are the creators and executive producers of the show. Don Was, Ben Haggard and Buddy Cannon will serve as music directors, and preside over a stellar house band backing the performers at this historic concert event taping. The event will be filmed and recorded for multi-platform distribution throughout traditional media (worldwide broadcast, music, and digital). A portion of the proceeds will benefit the T.J. Martell Foundation.

"I am so very thankful for this tribute to my husband, Merle Haggard. Please come join me and my family at this fantastic show that Merle would be so proud of," said Theresa Haggard.

“I am honored to produce a show that celebrates the life and music of Merle Haggard,” says Wortman. “His music and lyrics continue to shape the lives of musicians and millions of fans. I can't think of any better way to celebrate his 80th birthday than to honor his legacy with this extraordinary event. It’s going to be an unforgettable evening.”

AXS TV PAYS TRIBUTE TO MERLE HAGGARD FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

NETWORK AIRS DAN RATHER’S ‘THE BIG INTERVIEW’ WITH HAGGARD
FRIDAY, APRIL 8 AT 11:30 AM ET/8:30 AM PT AND BROADCASTS ‘MERLE HAGGARD-LIVE AT BILLY BOB’S TEXAS’ CONCERT AT 12:30 PM ET/9:30 AM PT

AXS TV is paying tribute Friday to one of country music’s most beloved artists, Merle Haggard, with a special airing of Dan Rather’s “The Big Interview” with Merle Haggard on April 8 at 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT. There are few music artists who are genuinely considered legends. With nearly 40 No.1 hits, Haggard is certainly one of them. Haggard passed away today, on his birthday, at the age of 79.

For more than 50 years Haggard has been singing a style of country western music that he helped pioneer. Haggard rarely grants interviews but before a performance at the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts in North Carolina, Haggard sat down for an extended conversation with Dan Rather, speaking candidly about everything from his time in prison to his politics, touring with Bob Dylan, and his biggest fear in life. The episode originally aired on September 30, 2013. (“The Big Interview” episode will have additional airings on Sat., April 9 at 9 a.m. ET and Sunday, April 10 at 8 a.m. ET.)

In this clip from the show, Haggard talks about aging, death, loneliness and what kept him alive. http://bit.ly/MerleHaggardInterview

Also, AXS TV will be airing the 2004 concert “Merle Haggard-Live at Billy Bob’s Texas” as part of the Network’s tribute to the Country Music Hall of Famer on Friday, April 8 at 12:30 p.m./9:30 a.m. PT. Heralded as one of his best concerts, “Merle Haggard-Live at Billy Bob’s Texas” features such songs as “Ol’ Country Singer,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” and “Natural High,” among others. The concert airs again on Sat., April 9 at 10 a.m. ET.

THE LORD MET MERLE HAGGARD TODAY ....

Merle Haggard
April 6, 1937 - April 6, 2016

Today, the Lord met Merle Haggard. Oh He's talked to him many times I'm sure, but with the passing of the legend this morning, the angels of country music heaven are singing and welcoming Merle with open arms.

Merle was so more than just a voice of song, he was a voice for the working man, a voice of simplicity and voice of the hearts of many. He sang about what he knew, the struggles of life, both struggles inside of himself and struggles in the outside world. He sang of what's honest. He put his life to words and told his story many times over, the way only he could tell it. He wasn't just a teller of stories, he was an example of stories of life. Merle Haggard embodied what country music is about and never strayed from that. he respected the genre, it's fans, it's past and it's present. He was such a huge presence, not only in the industry but in the every day life of the genre itself. People wanted to see him and listen to him, artists wanted to be him. The problem with that is that there was only one Merle and no matter how hard anyone tried, there would always only be one Merle. We all wanted to meet "The Hag", just once, to shake his hand and tell him how much he brought to country music and how he affected our lives as country music fans and many of us did get to meet him and do just that. Many of us won't get that chance because today, one of country's biggest and brightest lights went dark.

Today, the Lord met Merle Haggard and I can promise you He didn't have to ask "Why should I let you in?". He just opened the gates and Merle took his place next to Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Waylon and so many that went before. Man I bet there is an awesome jam session going on in heaven today.

I am not sure that thank you is enough, but it's all I can manage to utter right now and trust me when I say that those two words, no matter how small, have a huge appreciation behind them.

Rest in peace to country's favorite Okie From Muskogee and Happy Birthday.

Love,
Jenn and a country music nation in mourning

VIDEO: HANK WILLIAMS JR. & MERLE HAGGARD TEAM UP ON CLASSIC TUNE

 www.hankjr.com

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (November 26, 2013) – Five-time Entertainer of the Year Hank Williams Jr. and Country Music Hall of Fame member Merle Haggard spent some time in the studio recording the 1980 hit song “I Think I'll Just Sit Here and Drink,” for Hank Williams Jr.’s latest studio album Old School New Rules.

“Merle is one-of-a-kind,” says Hank Williams Jr. “His music resonates with fans just like mine does. Making this song was simple, it maybe took two takes. Then we spent the rest of the time laughing and telling old road stories. Merle and I are for the everyday working man and that’s something we have in common.”

On December 31, 2013, Williams will perform at the fifth annual “Bash on Broadway” in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Prior to the show he will receive the 2013 Operation Troop Aid “Patriot Award” for his support of those serving in the military, their families, and his continued Patriotic stance.

VIDEO: "The Way I Am" - Cover of Merle Haggard Classic by Paul Bogart

Check out one of our personal favorite undiscovered true country artists, Paul Bogart, covering Merle Haggard's "The Way I Am". Paul is 100% country and we love that he keeps it real. If you were to look up the phrase “three chords and the truth” in the dictionary, you might see pictures of country legends like Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash . . . but more recently, you might also see Paul Bogart.
