C’YA ON THE FLIP SIDE II BENEFIT CONCERT RAISES OVER $200,000 FOR TROY GENTRY FOUNDATION

Opry House Concert Featured Top Names In
Country and Rock Music

Online Auction Open Until February 12, 2020

Wednesday night’s C’Ya On The Flipside II Concert at the Grand Ole Opry House drew some of the top names in Country and Rock music and raised over $200,000 for The Troy Gentry Foundation. SiriusXM’s Storme Warren and Country star Tracy Lawrence hosted the event, which launched last year in an effort to keep Troy Gentry’s legacy and personal beliefs, “Love God, Love Others,” alive after a tragic helicopter crash in 2017 took his life.

Troy’s duo partner Eddie Montgomery and his nephew, rising Country star Walker Montgomery, kicked off the evening with a rousing performance of Montgomery Gentry’s signature hit “Hillbilly Shoes.” Rhett Akins then hit the stage, followed by Abby Anderson, Trace Adkins, Caroline Jones and T. Graham Brown. Classic Rock icon Don McLean made his debut appearance on the Opry stage lighting up the room with “American Pie” and “Headroom.” Terri Clark, Shenandoah, “The Voice” winner Jake Hoot, Mark Wills and Justin Moore performed, and the event brought 90s group Ricochet back together to perform “Daddy’s Money” for the first time in many years. Dallas Davidson sang the Montgomery Gentry hit “Where I Come From” before Eddie came back on stage to perform “Lonely and Gone” with Tracy Lawrence.

Tracy Lawrence, Angie Gentry, Eddie Montgomery, Storme Warren

Throughout the show, Troy’s widow Angie Gentry listened intently – often through tears - on the side of the stage, as each artist relayed story after story of the impact Troy’s life and music had on them. Halfway through the show, Angie presented checks from The Troy Gentry Foundation in the amount of $10,000 each to the concert’s beneficiaries The T.J. Martell Foundation, Make-A-Wish, The Journey Home Project, Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Emotions were never higher during the evening than when Eddie set Troy’s guitar in the infamous circle on the Opry stage, as Troy’s vocal on “Better Me” was played and a slideshow of his life was displayed on the big screen.

The evening wrapped with an all-star finale of the duo’s hit “My Town.” Longtime Montgomery Gentry keyboard player Eddie Kilgallon, played the intro of the song on one of Elton John’s limited-edition red grand pianos that was brought in by Yamaha for the special evening.

The online auction of autographed items, concert tickets, experiences and more has already brought in thousands of dollars to the Troy Gentry Foundation. Additional items such as event posters, a Cabo private villa for six, tickets to see Lady Gaga, Yankees vs. Red Sox, CMA Awards, Grammy Awards, SEC basketball, a variety of framed and autographed items and more will be available on the auction site until Wednesday 2/12/20 at 9 p.m. cst. Visit https://e.givesmart.com/events/erI/ to see the list of exciting items.

Supporting sponsors of the event included Centurion Boats, Hemphill Brothers Coach Leasing, Carolina Watersports, Average Joes Entertainment, Tony Pence & Fred Noe, Rafa & Karla Calderon, The Journey Home Project, Charlie Daniels, Exterior Cladding Systems, Custom Entrance Solutions, WrightWay Building Solutions, The Mick Foundation, and Beasley Family Foundation.

Montgomery Gentry’s newest single “Folks Like Us” is a downhome small town love song.  It fits in well with their previous material harkening back to 2002’s “My Town” or 2004’s “Something To Be Proud Of” with a little bit of “One In Every Crowd” circa 2008.  They speak of loving what they’re surrounded by and wanting more of it.  “This ol’ world ain’t got enough folks like us.”  God-fearing folks out on the edges of the county and dotted all over America are who they’re referencing here.  The fans of Montgomery Gentry that have loved their past blue-collar anthems will be sure to love this one as well.  In diving back into country music Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry have wasted no time in finding what has always worked for them and evolving from that point.  This new single has hints of many of their popular hits but manages to be a story of its own and display its own signature flavor.  This is the 2nd single they’ve released in the past year after their near-half-decade of radio silence.  If you’ve liked what they’ve done up until this point, you will definitely being turning “Folks Like Us” up on the radio.

Montgomery Gentry is also hosting “Country on the Beach” this year.  Proceeds benefit the estimable TJ Martell Foundation.  A worthy cause if there ever was one, the TJ Martell Foundation helps fund cancer research or as they phrase it on their website - “The T.J. Martell Foundation is the music industry's largest foundation that funds innovative medical research focused on finding cures for leukemia, cancer and AIDS.  The Foundation sources and supports early-stage research projects aimed at developing more effective clinical treatments for patients which otherwise might not be funded.”

SINGLE REVIEW: "HEADLIGHTS" - MONTGOMERY GENTRY

SINGLE: "Headlights"
ARTIST: Montgomery Gentry
REVIEWER: Alyse Smith
Follow Alyse on Twitter at @ASmith1300

Purchase "Headlights" on iTunes, Amazon, or Google Play

Montgomery Gentry’s newest single “Headlights” is a high-octane return to country music.  Radio silence has been Montgomery Gentry’s sound for the past couple years, so it’s nice to see them return to country music.  “Headlights” is the title track off of their latest album, due out Spring 2015.

Previously known for a string of hits such as “Back When I Knew It All,” “Hell Yeah” and “If You Ever Stopped Lovin’ Me,” this most recent single of Montgomery Gentry’s is sure to follow suit. Heavy on the electric guitar without sacrificing the vocals, Troy Gentry and Eddie Montgomery manage to deliver a night of partying, directions included.  All you have to do is “follow those headlights.”  A pre-game of a song if ever I’ve heard one, this song will get you excited for the night and party ahead.  Just make sure not to pre-game too hard before you “take it to the riverside” because this one’s going to last until you see sun.  A night full of music cranked up and beer drank down with everyone reveling in the heat, this surely sounds like a night that’s wonderfully common and all too memorable.  The party hardy and rock harder vibe has never been absent from the duo’s music and here it’s even further amplified.  A summertime anthem making its debut at the start of fall, this one’ll have to be played indoors until we again reach sweet summertime.

INDUSTRY QUOTE: When Gator Harrison, Regional Programming Manager for Clear Channel, was asked about the latest Montgomery Gentry single, "I"ll Keep the Kids", here's what he had to say:

"I knew "Kids" connected, but witnessing a teary-eyed Eddie on stage sharing this very personal song so powerfully and seeing my listeners who had lived this song standing in ovation and appreciation, I realized this song not only connected but resonated. This song is important and a must play for your listeners."  ~ Gator Harrison

We agree completely and thank the stations that listened to what the song was saying and felt it was one that should be shared.

CONCERT REVIEW/*EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS* - MONTGOMERY GENTRY AND TYLER FARR - WINTERVILLE, NC 8/25/12

EVENT: WINTERVILLE WATERMELON FESTIVAL - WINTERVILLE, NC
DATE: 8/25/12
ARTISTS: MONTGOMERY GENTRY WITH SPECIAL GUEST TYLER FARR

We covered last year's festival and is was fantastic with Curb recording artist, Rodney Atkins and Cold River's Katie Armiger so when it was announced that it was being held again, we knew it was gonna be a good one and it was even better than that. How do you beat Montgomery Gentry AND Tyler Farr?

Despite the fact that it poured buckets the night before and the recreation field was absolutely soaked and the mud at least an inch deep, it didn't deter country music fans from coming out. When did you ever hear of a country music fan that was scared of muddin'? We arrived about an hour before the gates opened and the parking areas were completely full and the line was stretched as far back as you could see with antsy people ready to rush the field and fight for the best spot to stretch out their chairs. This was gonna be fun, but then again it WAS Montgomery Gentry and they are synonymous with the word "fun". The crowd was large, ready and packin' the country heat.

Tyler Farr took the stage first, we'd been trying to see him for awhile now so this was a two for one for us. He was great and the crowd loved him. He played for about 30 min or so and when he broke out his last couple of songs, his hit "Hot Mess" and his new single "Hello Goodbye", the crowd loved it. We feel it safe to say that you can pretty much expect Tyler to be a household name sooner rather than later.

Tyler wrapped up and the crowd was getting anxious for Eddie and Troy to take the stage and when they take a stage, they really take a stage. I don't think there's a more energetic couple of guys than Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry. These guys know how to work a crowd, keep them up and moving, wanting more and keep 'em loud. They played most of their hits, working in new ones like "Where I Come From" and revving up the ones that got 'em started like "Gone". This was not a concert at all, this was a Montgomery Gentry throwdown. It was loud, proud and exactly what a country concert should be, an experience. Eddie and Troy never disappoint and this was no exception. What better way is there to say goodbye to the summer concert season? I can't think of one.
