TOMMY EMMANUEL AND JOHN KNOWLES TO RELEASE 'HEART SONGS' ALBUM THIS FRIDAY, JANUARY 11 AND LAUNCH NATIONAL TOUR

PRESS RELEASE

Two of the three remaining Certified Guitar Players (an honor bestowed by Chet Atkins) -- TOMMY EMMANUEL and JOHN KNOWLES -- will release their collaborative instrumental album HEART SONGS on Friday, January 11 via CGP Sounds/Thirty Tigers. The twosome also just launched their tour this past Tuesday night (January 8) in San Francisco, a coast-to-coast swing with multiple two-night engagements set for New York, Boston, Alexandria (VA), Minneapolis, Atlanta, and Franklin (TN). The tour wraps February 26 in Nashville at the Grand Ole Opry. Tickets for all shows are on sale now. Click here for more details.

HEART SONGS spotlights the players' proficient ability to capture and radiate emotion through their instruments with special arrangements of "Cold, Cold Heart," the album's lead-off single written by Hank Williams; "Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)" written by Billy Joel; and "I Can Let Go Now" written by Michael McDonald, among other songs. Elmore Magazine just weighed in with a rave review, noting:

"The combination of these artists' sensibilities, their careful listening to each other, along with the complimentary tonalities of a steel string and classical guitar carry this set through a variety of affairs of not just the heart, but the mysteries that move it."
--Ken Spooner, Elmore Magazine, Rating: 98 out of 100

Watch their amazing rendition of The Bee Gees hit "How Deep Is Your Love" below,  initially premiered at Parade Magazine (12/13/18).

EMMANUEL, twice voted Best Acoustic Guitarist by readers of Guitar Player magazine and who's been honored as a Member of the Order of Australia and KNOWLES, a Grammy winner and member of the National Thumb Picker's Hall of Fame, know how to get to the core of a song and accentuate its finest qualities.

The 14-track HEART SONGS, recorded at EastWest Studios in Los Angeles, intertwines thoughtful arrangements of songs from other artists, a classic Broadway musical like West Side Story, their own compositions and live performances. In November, Guitar Player premiered the album's lead single, "Cold, Cold Heart" while Acoustic Guitar magazine premiered "Walkin' My Baby Back Home" and noted that "...it's no surprise that both guitarists are on the top of their games throughout Heart Songs." (11/29/18)

In other news, KNOWLES has also been added to TOMMY EMMANUEL's June Guitar Camp in Vail, CO. More information on the camp can be found here.

TOMMY EMMANUEL AND JOHN KNOWLES ANNOUNCE NEW COLLABORATIVE INTRUMENTAL ALBUM, 'HEART SONGS"

TOMMY EMMANUEL AND JOHN KNOWLES ANNOUNCE NEW COLLABORATIVE INTRUMENTAL ALBUM, 'HEART SONGS,' OUT JANUARY 11

TWOSOME TO HIT THE ROAD IN JANUARY WITH STOPS IN SAN FRANCISCO, SAN DIEGO, NEW YORK CITY, BOSTON, MINNEAPOLIS AND NASHVILLE, AMONG OTHERS

Two of the three remaining Certified Guitar Players (an honor bestowed by Chet Atkins) - Tommy Emmanuel and John Knowles - have announced Friday, January 11 as the release date for their new collaborative instrumental album, HEART SONGS, via CGP Sounds/Thirty Tigers.

The full-length album spotlights the players' proficient ability to capture and radiate emotion through their instruments with special arrangements of "Cold, Cold Heart," the album's lead-off single written by Hank Williams; "How Deep Is Your Love" written by The Bee Gees; "Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)" written by Billy Joel; and "I Can Let Go Now" written by Michael McDonald, among other songs. *See the full HEART SONGS track listing below.

Emmanuel, twice voted Best Acoustic Guitarist by readers of Guitar Player magazine and who's been honored as a Member of the Order of Australia and KNOWLES, a Grammy winner and member of the National Thumb Picker's Hall of Fame, know how to get to the core of a song and accentuate it's finest qualities. Says Michael McDonald: "To hear a master like Tommy Emmanuel interpret any song is a joyous and emotional experience to say the least. To hear such a master perform one of your own compositions is the experience of a lifetime. One for which I'll be forever be grateful."

The 14-track HEART SONGS, recorded at EastWest Studios in Los Angeles, intertwines thoughtful arrangements of songs from other artists, a classic Broadway musical like West Side Story, their own compositions and live performances.

"A 'heart song' is really a love song," Emmanuel observes. "Love has many facets--love of family, romantic love. So we started there and then looked for melodies that could be played with heart." Adds Knowles: "And we tried to choose songs that people have heard. So that when they hear them, even though we're not singing or they may not know all the words, they have a connection to these songs in their own hearts."

Most importantly, they agreed from the start that HEART SONGS would be about honoring the music rather than using it as a springboard for virtuoso display. From studying vocal interpretations of each song they covered, Emmanuel embraced a singer's identity in how he would caress each melody. "It was a wake up call to not overplay, to be respectful and serve the music properly," he says. "When you're being respectful to the melody, you're also respecting the listener's previous experience with that song," Knowles points out. "We play into their expectations while at the same time surprising them now and then."

In support of the album, Emmanuel and Knowles will hit the road together with their first performance slated for January 8 in San Francisco, CA at Herbst Theatre. Additional stops are set for San Diego, New York City, Boston, and Minneapolis, among others, before wrapping in Nashville, on February 26 at the Grand Ole Opry.

Tickets for all shows go on sale November 2. Click here for more details.

TOMMY EMMANUEL PARTNERS WITH 'COWBOYS & INDIANS' TO PREMIERE THE VIDEO FOR "DEEP RIVER BLUES," HIS COLLABORATION WITH JASON ISBELL

"If you like guitar playing, it simply doesn't get any better than Tommy."
--Jason Isbell

Above: image from "Deep River Blues" video

Tommy Emmanuel--the esteemed Grammy-nominated guitarist, composer and performer--has partnered with Cowboys & Indians to premiere the video for "Deep River Blues," his collaboration with Jason Isbell from Emmanuel's acclaimed and high-charting ACCOMPLICE ONE album. The song is a stirring interpretation of the country blues classic by the late Doc Watson, whose birthday was March 3. Watch the video below, directed and edited by Joshua Britt and Neilson Hubbard. It features Emmanuel, with muddied hands, finger-picking his acoustic guitar by a small creek in the backwoods of Nolensville, TN and celebrating Watson's pioneering guitar style.

An interview with Emmanuel--currently headlining a European tour through March before returning for more U.S. dates starting April 6--is also posted at the Cowboys & Indians site where he says:

"Firstly, Jason was an obvious choice for 'Deep River Blues' as he's from Muscle Shoals [Alabama] and has the exact vocal style I was looking for this style of song. I have been a Doc Watson fan since I first heard him in the early '70s. Doc and I did some shows together about 10 years back and he was a great gentleman to be around. I think his influence was the fact that he always stuck to his way of doing things and never got swayed by trends."

Tommy Emmanuel--whom is distinguished as one of only five musicians handpicked by his mentor, Chet Atkins, as a Certified Guitar Player (CGP)--earned the #1 "Bluegrass Album" on the Billboard charts with his ACCOMPLICE ONE collaborations album, released January 19 via CGP Sounds and distributed by Thirty Tigers. The album also debuted in Top 5 on Billboard's "Heatseekers Albums," Top 15 on "Independent Albums" and Top 20 on the "Americana/Folk" chart alongside its #1 debut on the iTunes "Jazz Albums" chart.

The 16-track collaborative album, a mix of new takes on indelible classics and brand new originals from Tommy and his collaborators, also achieved a #10 debut on Americana Music Association's "Top 40 Albums" chart while "Looking Forward To The Past" (feat Rodney Crowell) and "Borderline" (feat Amanda Shires) are both on Americana Music Association's "Top 40 Singles" chart (all monitored by CDX Traction). The album features guest artists such as Jason Isbell, Mark Knopfler, Rodney Crowell, Amanda Shires, Jerry Douglas, J.D. Simo, Ricky Skaggs, David Grisman and more.

To purchase the album, the CD is available here and vinyl here. For digital, visit iTunes here.

The road warrior has an extensive worldwide touring itinerary already confirmed for the year, with more dates being added. On select upcoming U.S. tour dates, Emmanuel will be joined by ACCOMPLICE ONE special guests such as Amanda Shires, Jerry Douglas and Suzy Bogguss. See all upcoming tour dates here.

Of the song, Billy Dukes from Taste Of Country added that, "the veteran proves he has a finger on the pulse of the country community...guitar and drums dominate this summer afternoon delight, remarkable for its humble production and airy arrangement" (8/22/16). Upon its release, "Just Got Paid" was featured on SiriusXM The Highway's "On The Horizon" show as well as SILVER's own nationally syndicated weekly radio show heard on almost 90 stations, including some of the leading country and iHeartMedia radio stations throughout the U.S., every Friday and Saturday nights. TIMOTHY B. SCHMIT: GROUNDBREAKING VOCALIST, SONGWRITER & BASS PLAYER FOR THE EAGLES AND POCO RELEASES NEW SOLO ALBUM 'LEAP OF FAITH' TODAY, 9/23

LISTEN TO THE FULL ALBUM TODAY ON ROLLING STONE COUNTRY

FIRST SINGLE "RED DIRT ROAD" IMPACTING AMERICANA AND AAA RADIO NOW

"With the Santa Monica Mountains in the distance and a patch of state-protected Californian wilderness stretched outside the front door, Schmit created a soundtrack for that sort of pitch-perfect American landscape, mixing bluegrass, Cajun, rock, Seventies soul and California country into the same track list. Leap of Faith is an Americana album, in other words, delivered by an elder statesman who's been laying the brickwork for Americana's existence since the 1970s. Schmit is no newcomer. No cosmic-cowboy wannabe. Rather than focus on proving his country credentials, he sticks to the Schmit-ian basics on Leap of Faith, singing the songs with a gentle, unhurried voice that's more tailored to peaceful easy feelings than life in the fast lane."
--ROLLING STONE COUNTRY/ROLLING STONE (9/23/16)

LEAP OF FAITH, the new 12-track solo album from TIMOTHY B. SCHMIT, is out today (9/23) on the indie label Benowen Records. Listen to LEAP OF FAITH by the groundbreaking vocalist, songwriter and bass player from the legendary rock groups Eagles and Poco in its entirety, today on Rolling Stone Country (here) and purchase the album via iTunes (here) and exclusive online store bundles (here).

Recorded at his Los Angeles studio and co-produced with engineer Hank Linderman, LEAP OF FAITH is a strong mix of rock, country, Americana, R&B and even a bit of reggae. LEAP OF FAITH marks the culmination of SCHMIT's unhurried, yet inspired reflections of life. The album's first single "Red Dirt Road" is currently impacting Americana and AAA radio. "Like the rest of my new solo album Leap of Faith, 'Red Dirt Road' was recorded in my L.A. studio featuring Van Dyke Parks on accordion, John McFee (from The Doobie Brothers) on fiddle, and harmonies by Herb Pedersen," explains TIMOTHY re the first single. "Upon hearing this song one might think the setting is from the deep south, but actually the image comes from the island of Kauai. It's a tune about finally being able to let go."

Rolling Stone Country's Andrew Leahey recently described LEAP OF FAITH as follows: "Written and tracked during breaks in the The Eagles' touring schedule, the new record shines a light not only on Schmit's voice, which remains remarkably untouched by the decades that have elapsed since he sang his band's final hit, 'I Can't Tell You Why,' but also the songwriting chops of an Americana pioneer. Long before that genre had a name, Schmit helped glue the nuance of country and bluegrass to the noise of rock. If the music on Leap of Faith sounds somewhat familiar, it's because Schmit now shares the marketplace with songwriters who grew up studying his work with Poco and the Eagles." (August 25, 2016)

Illuminated by an array of fine musicians and singers, LEAP OF FAITH plays like a multicolored corona around SCHMIT's distinctive artistry. From the jaunty opening track "My Hat" to the soaring harmonies and heartfelt reflections of "This Waltz," this is more than another album in a great artist's catalog. Writing and recording between touring with the Eagles, the songs on LEAP OF FAITH have a broad compass. "Slow Down" is a note to self on escaping life's pressures coasting along on a reggae pulse sweetened by jazz giant Gary Burton's vibraphone, while "What I Should Do" has a Muscle Shoals feel; steamy, funky, and sensual. On "Goodbye, My Love," he takes us deep down into traditional country with Paul Franklin's glistening steel guitar layered over the changes. And on "It's Alright," his most intimate song, SCHMIT needs only his own acoustic guitar to express profound love.

Watch the new lyric video for "Red Dirt Road" below:

AUDIENCE Network's multiple series of original and exclusive performances give music fans an intimate view of music's most influential artists today. The network collaborates directly with musicians to create a unique show from their perspective.

Ryan Beaver's forthright, personally-charged songwriting reflects the lessons learned over a lifelong creative journey. Growing up in the small Texas town of Emory, he began writing songs early in life, and began performing his compositions in local venues when he was just 17. He moved to Austin and became a part of that city's fertile music scene, and then relocated to Nashville, where he has immersed himself in Music City's songwriting community and continued to hone his skills. Beaver's latest album,RX, which the artist co-produced with longtime compadres Jeremy Spillman and Ryan Tyndell, makes it abundantly clear why Ryan Beaver has already been widely acclaimed as an artist to watch. Rolling Stone recently named him one of "10 New Country Artists You Need to Know," and he's received acclaim from the likes of Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves and Lee Ann Womack, with whom he's toured as an opening act.

TIMOTHY B. SCHMIT: NEW SONG "RED DIRT ROAD" PREMIERES ON ROLLING STONE COUNTRY

Editor's Note:
Have always loved Timothy B. Schmit .. what a classic voice that ALWAYS takes me back to good memories in my life. Thank you for never allowing me to forget those good times.
- Jenn

NEW SOLO ALBUM - 'LEAP OF FAITH' DUE OUT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23
PRE-ORDER AND RECEIVE "RED DIRT ROAD" AS AN INSTANT GRAT TRACK TODAY

"Written and tracked during breaks in the The Eagles' touring schedule, the new record shines a light not only on Schmit's voice, which remains remarkably untouched by the decades that have elapsed since he sang his band's final hit, 'I Can't Tell You Why,' but also the songwriting chops of an Americana pioneer. Long before that genre had a name, Schmit helped glue the nuance of country and bluegrass to the noise of rock. If the music on Leap of Faith sounds somewhat familiar, it's because Schmit now shares the marketplace with songwriters who grew up studying his work with Poco and the Eagles. With Leap of Faith's 'Red Dirt Road,' which premieres above at Rolling Stone Country, Schmit proves he's more than willing to break the rules of a genre he helped launch."
--Andrew Leahey, ROLLING STONE COUNTRY (August 25, 2016)

TIMOTHY B. SCHMIT, groundbreaking vocalist, songwriter and bass player from the legendary rock groups Eagles and Poco--has teamed up with Rolling Stone Country to premiere his new song "Red Dirt Road" (here). The song is from his upcoming solo album LEAP OF FAITH, set for release Friday, September 23 on Benowen Records. The album pre-order is available now with exclusive bundles (here) and on iTunes with an instant grat download for "Red Dirt Road" (here).

Illuminated by an array of fine musicians and singers, LEAP OF FAITH plays like a multicolored corona around Schmit's's distinctive artistry.

Track listing for LEAP OF FAITH:

1. My Hat
2. Slow Down
3. All Those Faces
4. I Refuse
5. What I should Do
6. Goodbye, My Love
7. You're So Wild
8. It's Alright
9. Red Dirt Road
10. The Island
11. Pearl And The String
12. This Waltz

In September, Timothy heads to Nashville for the Americana Music Festival & Conference. On Wednesday, September 21, he'll be on-hand to present at the Americana Music Awards show at Ryman Auditorium. The following night, he'll perform a live concert during "Music City Roots" at Factory at Franklin which will be live-streamed on Thursday, September 22 (here). The show will be broadcast nationally on PBS TV at a later date andother show performers include Willie Watson, Sean Watkins as well as Wynonna & The Big Noise. "Wynonna & The Big Noise lays bare the joy that is Judd's most potent gift as a vocalist...Wynonna's in the big field now. But she was always there anyway, with her magnificently versatile alto and penchant for both belting and swooning. With her tight band behind her after touring together for several years, she just sounds like she's home...You can just feel the grin on her face."
--Ann Powers, NPR, February 3, 2016

American music icon and five-time GRAMMY Award-winner WYNONNA JUDD and her band The Big Noise have partnered with NPR "First Listen" to give fans an early listen to their self-titled debut album starting today (2/4) in its entirety. Listen here (through 2/12). WYNONNA & THE BIG NOISE is due out Friday, February 12 via Curb Records in digital and physical formats including vinyl. To celebrate the album's release, the band will make their television debut as they perform "Ain't No Thing," a song from the new album, on NBC's "Late Night With Seth Meyers" live Wednesday, February 10 at 12:35/11:35c on NBC. The celebration continues throughout the following week as well with a performance on "CBS This Morning: Saturday Session" on Saturday, February 20 in the 8:30am ET hour. The band will perform two tracks from the album and a third song will be available exclusively online. Look for more events to be announced in the coming week.

WYNONNA & THE BIG NOISE is a milestone for WYNONNA, opening an exciting new chapter for her. She describes the new album as "vintage yet modern" and a "return to the well." It's a rootsy work encompassing Americana, blues, soul, rock and country.

EARLY PRAISE FOR WYNONNA & THE BIG NOISE:

"...the self-titled Wynonna & The Big Noise brings a raw, unvarnished approach to the album's dozen tracks, which run the gamut from gutsy blues to sweet, Seventies-inspired country-pop. While the LP is a natural for the wide-open Americana format, Wynonna's legions of country fans will feel right at home with the singer's first full-length album of original material since 2003's What the World Needs Now Is Love."
--Stephen L. Betts, ROLLINGSTONE.COM, November 6, 2015

"Singer Wynonna Judd opens a new chapter in her long career with her forthcoming album Wynonna & The Big Noise, her first with a full band of her own...the sound, however, is a departure, more stripped to the bone and rootsy, more contemporary American..."
--Randy Lewis, LOS ANGELES TIMES, January 22, 2016

"...she's reinvented herself again. The self-titled album with her new band is a mix of country, soul, rock, blues, mountain and just plain attitude...Wynonna & the Big Noise just may be her best album ever. Which is saying a lot."
--Chuck Yarborough,CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER, January 26, 2016

"The new album...explores more blues, soul, Americana and early rock 'n' roll styles alongside her trademark country croon...The album features the handiwork of some interesting collaborators including Susan Tedeschi's pluck on the bluesy opener 'Ain't No Thing,' Derek Trucks' guitar prowess on the soulful confessional 'Keeps Me Alive' and the tenderness of folk star Jason Isbell on the pensive gospel hymnal 'Things That I Lean On,' among others."

JASON MICHAEL CARROLL - Q&A
WHAT COLOR IS YOUR SKY

The new album is uniquely titled WHAT COLOR IS YOUR SKY. Where did that come from and what does it mean to you?

“The title ‘What Color Is Your Sky’ came to me after a hunting trip.  I have always enjoyed social media.  Sharing my thoughts and my life with my fans brings us all closer together.  I came home from a hunting trip and decided to post about my day.  I took a shot that day. I missed, but I took a shot.  There were a lot of factors as to why I missed and I'm not going to get into all of them but it was cold, raining, I was shivering, couldn't hold my gun still, I think the scope was off because I fell out of the tree stand, I'm pretty sure my ammo was wet...whatever the reason, I missed.  I posted about my trip and a lady decided to start in on me about how I ‘shouldn't shoot God’s creatures because they deserve to live as much as I do.’ I tried to calm her down by saying ‘yes ma'am, you're exactly right! If God would've wanted that animal dead, he would've let my bullet hit it!’  That didn't help at all !  After actually trying to calm her down and realizing she only wanted to argue, I typed ‘you're gonna argue no matter what I say so, the sky is blue...go!’  My smart-ass fans jumped in with both feet! I call them that because we all are the same! They get my humor and I am a bit of smart-ass myself! They started posting ‘my sky is green’ or ‘my sky is red.’  Someone posted ‘my sky is purple with a golden hue.’

I typed the words ‘What Color Is Your Sky’ and before I hit post I looked at it and thought, ‘that's a song title.’  I deleted it and stared working on the song.

My next trip to Nashville, I took the idea to my writing team Pete and AJ and later that afternoon we had the song!  We all knew we had something special after we finished it! That's a good feeling. I love when things come together like that out of a totally organic situation.

I thought of several titles for this record.  One was ‘Nondenominational’ simply because I felt my music obviously has been received by my fans and all of the new fans we make at every show even if I'm not in the ‘Nashville’ clique.  I felt it might be too vague and not clearly understood.  Another thought was another song title off of this record, ‘Civil War.’ Again, this felt like a great title but still not capturing the essence of the album.  After weighing several options for album titles, I felt this one [What Color Is Your Sky] evoked a more positive thought and message.  That's something I am trying to surround myself with more, personally and professionally.”

The album’s first single, “God Only Knows” has an affecting lyrical usage of the title phrase and is connecting with your fans and folks at radio--what can you tell us about the writing of the song?

“I love the way songs make people feel things and the way you want to move.  When I was a kid, I remember the song ‘Holding Out For A Hero’ by Bonnie Tyler!  I grew up in a very strict Christian household but I remember before my parents made the switch--cold turkey--to nothing but Gospel, I was well on my way to appreciating 80's Rock like the Cutting Crew ‘I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight,’ any song by Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Poison, and 80's Country from George Strait, Mel McDaniel and Barbara Mandrell.  It was culture shock.  Now don't get me wrong, I appreciate Gospel music but I had the Rock in my blood.  I was bitten and it didn't sting.  I'm chasing rabbits. I remember I wanted to write a song that made people feel, that made people want to move even if it was their first time hearing it!  I went to my writing team (Pete and AJ) and told them about my idea.  I think AJ started the progression for the song and we started writing lyrics.  I'm pretty proud of the outcome.”

This is your first album as a label-free artist and your strong fan support helped you achieve the ability to release this record on your own terms. What are some benefits or challenges you’ve encountered during this new process?

“Benefits? Those are easy to list!  I have fans that support what I do.  They come to shows, they buy several copies of CDs they already have and they bring new friends to shows.  I get to make the music I want to make without the influence of corporate parties or which label is in bed with, or close to, which publisher.  My band--who I trust enough to perform with me night after night--is who I picked as my band for this record! It all makes sense.

Challenges?  The challenges are not having the finances to push our music with the resources that major labels have to push their artists.  Music that is shaping today's accepted norm.  There is no doubt in my mind or my fan’s minds that this record, my music, can stand with all of the music being pushed by major labels but without their bank, we have to work harder.  I'm ok with that.”

What do you want people to take away from this album after listening to it, especially if this is a listener’s first time hearing your music?

“This record [What Color Is Your Sky] is who I am!  It's the songs I felt and wrote by myself or with friends. It’s recorded by my band, people I live, travel and hang with, and it's the way I wanted it to sound.  I hope it connects in a way that makes them feel like they can't wait for the next one!”

If there was one theme tying this collection of songs together, what might it be?

“The theme I hope people take away from this record is Real Life.  Yeah, I want people to move with the party and drinking songs,  but I want people to feel the heartbreak too. I want them to feel the urgency in ‘Urgency’ and the sense of standing on the edge of losing everything if something doesn't change in ‘Civil War.’ Real life.”

You have a wide vocal range and unique way of phrasing which has been showcased throughout your career and is ever-evident on WHAT COLOR IS YOUR SKY. Are there any particular vocalists that influenced you? If so, who and how?  Or was your voice more of a natural discovery?

“When I was a kid, I used to sit in the back of the car while the radio was on and try to sound like the people I heard singing.  I wasn't even trying to sing like the people I heard, I was trying to sound like them.  The singing I guess was something I learned while trying to emulate.  I have always said one of my biggest influences is Steven Tyler.  His stage presence and vocal ability, in my opinion, is unmatched.  I love Vince Gill’s voice and how flawless it is after all of these years.  I have been told several times over the years--and I take it as a huge compliment--that I sound ‘as good if not better’ than my CD's.  I can't even begin to tell you how good it feels when people notice the hard work I put into that especially when I'm working just as hard on the entertaining aspect of our shows.”
