CHARLES ESTEN FUELS EXCITEMENT FOR DEBUT ALBUM WITH TWO NEW RELEASES: “MAKE YOU HAPPY” + “WHEN LOVE AIN’T LOVE”

With his highly anticipated independent debut album, Love Ain’t Pretty, out January 26, multi-talent Charles Esten reveals the true dichotomy of matters of the heart with two new releases from the full-length project. Available now across all streaming platforms and digital retailers, listen to “Make You Happy” and “When Love Ain’t Love” here.

Both co-written by Esten, as his pen is credited on all 14 songs on Love Ain’t Pretty, “Make You Happy” – written by Esten, Gary Burr, and Jon D’Agostino – finds a stand-up guy lost in love. Soaked in an irresistibly romantic and restless desire, Esten offers a playful proposition with a hard to resist spirit. Produced by Marshall Altman with an upbeat mix of honky-tonk, beachy Doo-Wop and funky Soul, “Make You Happy” also features a bouncy Caribbean beat and a touch of whirring organ, plus Esten’s love-drunk vocal and a spirit-lifting hook. All along, he promises not to ask for the world – just to see a smile.

Like the album title suggests, “When Love Ain’t Love” – written by Esten and Jeffrey East – taps into the opposing side of love, as it explores the slow-motion unraveling of a relationship. Serving as a cautionary tale of a romantic fallout and the inevitably hard truths that accompany it, the Altman-produced confessional boasts Esten’s raw vocal cutting through the ‘80s Rock atmosphere, with reverb-soaked guitars that further create the woozy, disoriented feeling of a world turned upside down. The steady back beat continues to pound on like a desperate heart, hoping things might one day turn around, even through the stark resignation of the final chorus lyric: “When it ain’t like before, but there ain’t no because. Love ain’t love no more. It just is what it is, when it ain’t what it was.”

Vividly detailed and filled with the emotional daring of a celebrated storyteller – both onscreen and onstage – Esten dives into wide-ranging themes of earth-shattering romance, big-picture reflection, and beyond, in Love Ain’t Pretty. Spotlighted as the High Note in Nashville Lifestyles’ The Music Issue on stands now, the diverse and richly textured full-length project was also just featured by GRAMMY.com and Parade. In addition, it’s been spotted on anticipated albums of 2024 lists by The Tennessean, STEREOGUM, Men’s Journal, and Taste of Country. More than 10 years in the making, Esten explores life, love, and the passing of time through the lens of a traveled and tested everyman, who has never lost his innate sense of wonder, or his wide-open soul, with a rollout of already released songs including “One Good Move,” “A Little Right Now,” “In A Bar Somewhere,” “Down The Road (feat. Eric Paslay),” and “Somewhere In The Sunshine.”

Come join Charles and celebrate "Love Ain’t Pretty" with an album release show at Exit/In on January 26 - limited tickets are remaining. Fans can purchase here.

NASHVILLE’S BRYAN RUBY DROPS CELEBRATORY COVER OF THE JOHN FOGERTY CLASSIC BASEBALL ANTHEM “CENTERFIELD”

Nashville-based country artist Bryan Ruby just dropped a lively cover of John Fogerty’s classic baseball anthem, “Centerfield.”

The new version is available for streaming and download HERE.

“Centerfield” was released by John Fogerty, who also penned the song, in March 1985 as the B-side of “Rock and Roll Girls.” It was also the title track of Fogerty’s comeback album about a decade after leaving Creedence Clearwater Revival. A track that combined two of his passions, baseball and rock and roll, the song has been a fixture at baseball parks everywhere, played during team breaks and in between innings. Even the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York is known for playing it. The song also garnered a 1985 Grammy nomination for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance.

Spending most of his life on baseball fields, Bryan Ruby wants fans to know he considers it an honor to record a cover of such a beloved song. A minor league professional ball player who has heard “Centerfield” played in baseball parks worldwide for years, it’s no surprise that the song holds a lot of meaning to him personally.  Ruby is set to cap off his baseball playing career in the upcoming months, suiting up in one final tournament to close out the summer before officially retiring from the sport this fall.

“This song is an all-time classic and a personal favorite of mine,” expressed Bryan Ruby.  “When I think of a ‘baseball song,’ I immediately think of ‘Centerfield.’ As the son of a lifelong baseball coach and a longtime player myself, this ballpark anthem has truly been the soundtrack of our lives. I’m proud to put my own personal spin on it. It’s already been a nonstop summer. I’ve been crisscrossing the country at stadiums big and small singing the “Star Spangled Banner,” “God Bless America,” and doing pregame and postgame ballpark shows. I wanted my version of ‘Centerfield’ to channel the energy and excitement we feel at the stadium every day. We bumped up the tempo compared to the original version, added a key change in the final chorus, and layered in a few extra guitars in order to really blow the roof off of it. I’m thankful to my producer Smith Curry, who recruited not one, but three current ACM-nominated finalists for Studio Musician Of The Year (Billy Justineau on keys, Miles McPherson on drums, and Steve Mackey on bass) to play with me on the song. I feel very honored to be working with such talented people at this early stage in my career.”

“Well, I beat the drum and hold the phone

The sun came out today

We're born again, there's new grass on the field

A-roundin' third, I'm headed for home

It's a brown-eyed handsome man

Anyone can understand the way I feel

Oh, put me in coach, I'm ready to play today

Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today

Look at me, I can be centerfield

Well, I spent some time in the Mudville Nine

Watching it from the bench

You know I took some lumps

When the Mighty Casey struck out

So say hey Willie, tell Ty Cobb and Joe DiMaggio

Don't say it ain't so you know the time is now

So put me in coach, I'm ready to play today

Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today

Look at me, I can be centerfield…”

Rounding out the all-star cast of musicians are Smith Curry on steel guitar, Nathan Keeterle on electric guitar, and Sam Hunter on acoustic guitar. The song was recorded at Omni Studios in Nashville, with Josh Emmons serving as engineer behind the board during the session. Mark Lonsway performed background vocals and David Axelrod (Santi Sound) served as lead vocal tracking engineer on the project. The single was mixed by Bobby Holland (Pentavarit Studios) and mastered by John Mayfield from Mayfield Mastering. The cover art was photographed by Jonah Van Bemmelen and Max Gordon assisted with graphic design on the project.

THE FRONTMEN RELEASE LONG AWAITED NEW MUSIC

"Left Their Mark” and "Amazed (The Frontmen Edition)”
Available for Streaming Today

Download or Stream Here

The Frontmen (Larry Stewart of Restless Heart; Richie McDonald, formerly of Lonestar; and Tim Rushlow, formerly of Little Texas) today released two fresh songs through their new label home, BMG/BBR Music Group. “Left Their Mark” and “Amazed (The Frontmen Edition)” are available now through all digital streaming music providers.

These debut songs from The Frontmen feature McDonald singing lead on “Left Their Mark,” which gives a heartfelt nod to our men and women in uniform, and “Amazed (The Frontmen Edition),” a re-record of Lonestar’s 1999 No. 1 smash hit.

With Memorial Day approaching, McDonald feels the timing is right for the world to hear the red, white and blue drenched, “Left Their Mark.” The song was written by McDonald and hit tunesmith James Dean Hicks.

“It’s crazy to think a song that me and James Dean Hicks wrote over thirteen years ago now has a chance to touch some hearts and leave a mark on the world," says McDonald. "That’s what I love about making music.”

The national television broadcast premiere of "Left Their Mark" happens this Memorial Day weekend on the Tunnel to Towers Dallas Never Forget Concert Country Music Salutes America’s Heroes TV special. Stewart, McDonald and Rushlow join an all-star lineup of Jelly Roll, Tanya Tucker, Ian Munsick, Dennis Quaid, Krista Marie and more, in saluting our nation's military heroes and first responders. The program will air across multiple broadcast partners in the coming months, beginning with this weekend's premiere across major FOX affiliate markets. Click here for broadcast details. Watch the sizzle reel here.

These new songs from The Frontmen are but a taste of what’s to come from the three legendary voices of '90s country. More tunes, all of which will be included on an upcoming album, will be released in the coming months, with Stewart, Rushlow and McDonald tag-teaming lead vocals. Two-time GRAMMY-nominated Mickey Jack Cones is producing the project.

CHARLES ESTEN DELIVERS ROMANTIC ROCKER OFF DEBUT ALBUM

More than 10 years after arriving in Nashville, TN, multi-talent Charles Esten introduces his highly anticipated independent debut album with first release, “One Good Move.” Available today (3/3) across all streaming platforms and digital retailers, listen here.

Offering the first listen to Billboard yesterday (3/2), “the deeply personal power ballad” sets the tone for Esten’s next chapter. Read the exclusive here.

Co-written by Esten with Sam Backoff, Zarni deVette, and Elise Hayes, “One Good Move” is a heartfelt romantic rocker with a soul-baring story, describing a misspent youth that paid off in the end with “one good move.” Dedicated to his college sweetheart and wife of 31 years, Patty, the transformative track produced by Marshall Altman puts Esten’s smoldering vocal in the spotlight, backing it with a powerful rhythm section, dreamy guitars, and a poignant piano to capture a life-changing true love. All told, it’s an expertly crafted balance of Country heart and Rock sophistication, and it points toward things to come.

With his artistry spanning mediums and styles, the artist-songwriter and actor is widely known for his role as “Deacon Claybourne” on the ABC/CMT’s Nashville. Fully dedicating himself to writing and performing in the real-life Music City, he’s made more than 155 appearances at the Grand Ole Opry with his next performance slated for March 17 – click here to purchase tickets. He’s also headlined multiple tours of the U.S. and Europe, while surpassing 10 MILLION career streams and becoming a 2018 Guinness World Records title holder for the “Most consecutive weeks to release an original digital single by a music act,” after delivering 54 original songs once a week for 54 straight weeks.

Esten’s currently making headlines as “Ward Cameron” on Netflix’s buzzed-about Outer Banks. Recently speaking with Entertainment Tonight, PEOPLE, The Hollywood Reporter, and more, Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.

KEEP UP WITH CHARLES ESTEN

NATE SMITH DROPS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW SONG, “I FOUND YOU”

Listen to "I Found You" Here

Nate Smith released his highly anticipated new song today, “I Found You.” Written by Nate alongside Chris Gelbuda and Kyle Schlienger, the song was first introduced to Nate’s fanbase on his social media earlier this year and has since created incredible demand from his followers.

“‘I Found You’ is a song about timing and redemption. There’s nothing more affirming to a heart than when someone sees you with all your faults and still chooses you, and that’s what this song is about,” Nate said. “I really believe in my heart that everything happens for a reason, and when it’s right, it’s right. I really hope people connect to it in a special and personal way!”

“I Found You” is the follow up to Nate’s current single “Whiskey On You.” Upon the songs release, Nate re-entered Billboard's Emerging Artists chart at No. 1, becoming the top emerging act in the U.S. for the first time. Lauded as the “breakup song of the summer” by Country Now and “an enormously satisfying country kiss-off anthem” by Stereogum, “Whiskey On You” amassed over 7.5 million total global on-demand streams in its first week, reaching No. 10 on the Country On-Demand Streaming Chart. The track also debuted at No. 84 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 14 on the Hot Country Songs chart, marking Smith’s first career entry on the chart.

“Whiskey On You” is currently Top 25 and climbing on the country radio charts and recently hit No. 1 on SiriusXM The Highway’s Hot 30 Countdown. The track has amassed over 90 million total on-demand streams to date.

Nate will round out the rest of the year completing his headline WHISKEY ON YOU TOUR and opening select dates for Larry Fleet’s ONE FOR THE ROAD TOUR. For dates and tickets, visit NateSmithOfficial.com.

HANK WILLIAMS JR. RELEASES “FIREMAN RING THE BELL” FROM RICH WHITE HONKY BLUES

12-Song Album Produced by Dan Auerbach Available Next Friday, June 17

via Easy Eye Sound

As Hank Williams Jr. readies fans for Rich White Honky Blues, set for next Friday, June 17 via Easy Eye Sound, the Country Music Hall of Famer debuts his take on R.L. Burnside’s “Fireman Ring the Bell,” a high-tempo blues burner, driven by punchy slide guitar punctuated by the longtime legendary country outlaw’s dynamic vocals.

A 12-song collection reprising classics from Robert Johnson, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Burnside, Muddy Waters, Big Joe Turner and a few from Bocephus himself, captured live over the course of just three days by GRAMMY-winning producer Dan Auerbach, Rich White Honky Blues finds Williams making good on his legacy with a turpentine and rough wood take on the hill country blues that informed his father’s raw-boned style.

Today’s release follows “Jesus, Won’t You Come By Here,” which premiered exclusively with CMT and CMT.com. With Kenny Brown’s electric guitar, Auerbach on dobro and Bobbie Wood’s churchy piano and organ, the Country Music Hall of Famer sings with a robust conviction that suggests the larger than life amongst us transcend mortal limitations.

With another cover from blues legend Burnside, Williams’ “Georgia Women” premiered with Tennessean, sharing “Bocephus achieves tapping into the spirit of his father's iconic teacher Rufus ‘Tee Tot’ Payne, and a century of other blues legends.”

Released alongside the announcement of Rich White Honky Blues, album opener “.44 Special Blues” (Williams’ take on Robert Johnson’s “32-20 Blues”) was dubbed by Rolling Stone as “a lonesome, acoustic blues number,” while Consequence shared “the spry solo track digs into the County Music Hall of Famer’s bluesy roots, with its vintage-style refrain, ‘Baby where’d you stay last night,’ pairing perfectly to his well-worn wail.”

“You bring who you are,” Williams says. “All that... all... of... that... is where my music comes from. When we got into the studio, the more we played, the deeper we got – and the deeper we got, the harder I wanted to go.”

“It’s that rawness, and how real it is,” shares producer Auerbach. “I was always searching for the rawness, the darkest stuff. Once we were in it, as soon as we started playing, Hank was invested. That lifted everybody else up, to really push each other.”

Professional baseball player and rising country music artist Bryan Ruby has announced the release of his new single, “Left Field,” a song co-written by Andrew Capra, Chad Sellers and Bryan Ruby. “Left Field” is an energetic celebration of life’s unexpected moments, the “curveballs” that not only take us by surprise, but end up heavily impacting our lives. 100% of the single’s proceeds will go to Bryan’s charity, Proud To Be in Baseball

The song was recorded at SoulTrain Sound Studios in Berry Hill, Tennessee, with vocals recorded at SandTrack Studios in Nashville. Smith Curry served as producer, with mixing done by Mark Lonsway at Warner Chappell Production Music and mastering handled by John Mayfield of Mayfield Mastering. Tracking engineer was Kyle Blunt.

Session musicians on the project included Sam Hunter (acoustic guitar), Justin Ostrander (electric guitar), Smith Curry (steel guitar), Nick Buda (drums), Tim Marks (bass), Michael Webb (organ, keyboard) and Mark Lonsway (background vocals).

“‘Left Field’ is all about the unexpected. It’s about the things we can’t possibly plan for, big or small, that come into our lives and change us forever. Sometimes we think we have an idea of what we want and then life gets in the way with something totally unexpected. At the end of the day, those are the things that shape us the most,” reflected Bryan Ruby.

“It’s that garage sale beat-around old guitar
The Louisville Slugger left in the schoolyard
It’s that box of 45’s at your cousin’s house
That you turned on, cranked up, and wore ‘em all out
It’s waking up to snow on Christmas day
The last picked kid with the winning play
It's that first real kiss in the dashboard light
Didn't see it coming but it changed your life
Gotta be who you are
And do what you can
But don’t miss a livin’ just making plans
Keep an eye on the horizon
You know the deal
All the best things come out of Left Field …”

“But at the end of the day, I love country music and this is just a damn true country song that comes right from the heart and can mean whatever the listener wants it to mean. Isn’t that the point of all good music, and any aspiring songwriter’s ultimate goal? We all write songs because of what it means to us, but at the end of the day it’s up to the listener to grab hold of the song and tie it to a greater meaning in their life,” shared Bryan Ruby.
