NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND RELEASES "DIRT DOES DYLAN"

Out today, Dirt Does Dylan finds the Dirt Band recording their favorites from Bob Dylan’s catalog with a little
help from their friends

It’s been a few years since Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s Jeff Hanna paid $4 to see Bob Dylan play at his high school auditorium in Long Beach, California, but the fire lit inside of Hanna that night still burns as strong as ever. Hanna and his Dirt Band bandmates have had quite a career of their own since then, introducing folk, bluegrass, and country music—what would later be termed “Americana”—to a whole new generation of fans. Their latest effort, however, is a full-circle return with Dirt Does Dylan, a ten-track album highlighting some of the gems from Dylan’s vast catalog with the help of three new band members: fiddle specialist Ross Holmes; singer-songwriter and bass player Jim Photoglo (who wrote one of the Dirt Band’s biggest hits, “Fishin’ in the Dark”); and Dirt Band founder Jeff Hanna’s son, the absurdly talented singer and guitarist Jaime Hanna. Produced and recorded by Ray Kennedy at Room & Board Studio in Nashville, Tennessee, Dirt Does Dylan finds a generation-spanning Dirt Band paying an appropriately great tribute to arguably the greatest songwriter of the 20th century with the help of friends like Jason Isbell, The War & Treaty, Steve Earle, and Rosanne Cash, to name a few.

Track Listing for "Dirt Does Dylan":

1. Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here with You

2. Girl from the North Country

3. It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry

4. Country Pie

5. I Shall Be Released (ft. Larkin Poe)

6. She Belongs to Me

7. Forever Young

8. The Times They Are A-Changin’ (ft. Rosanne Cash, Jason Isbell, Steve Earle, and The War and Treaty)

9. Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right

10. Quinn The Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn)

NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM, "DIRT DOES DYLAN", OUT MAY 20TH

Five-decades-running Americana pioneers Nitty Gritty Dirt Band have already played a major role in the preservation and popularity of folk music—their Will The Circle Be Unbroken album series introduced droves of new fans to folk, country, and bluegrass and earned the band multiple Grammy awards—but now, the long-running group have taken on another American institution near and dear to their hearts; the Bob Dylan songbook. On May 20th, the band will be releasing Dirt Does Dylan, a ten-track album highlighting some of the gems from Dylan’s vast catalog with the help of three new band members: fiddle specialist Ross Holmes; singer-songwriter and bass player Jim Photoglo (who wrote one of the Dirt Band’s biggest hits, “Fishin’ in the Dark”); and Dirt Band founder Jeff Hanna’s son, the absurdly talented singer and guitarist Jaime Hanna.

Today, Billboard premiered the Dirt Band’s cover of “I Shall Be Released,” which Dylan originally recorded with The Band during their infamous Basement Tapes sessions. On this version of the tune, sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell—better known as accomplished blues-rock duo Larkin Poe—lend their perfectly-blended voices and Megan’s lap steel guitar skills to the mix. Carpenter takes the first verse vocals while the Hannas handle guitar duties. Aside from the fine songwriting itself, Jeff Hanna and Megan Lovell’s infectious guitar interplay carries the song from verse to verse, culminating in the song’s final solo section. Fans can watch the band record “I Shall Be Released” in its official music video at this link, check out the previously-released single, “The Times, They Are A-Changin’,” right here, and pre-order or pre-save Dirt Does Dylan ahead of its May 20th release here.

ROY CLARK, THE BELLAMY BROTHERS, MARK WILLS & THE NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND SET FOR SUMMER EPISODES OF REFLECTIONS AIRING IN JULY

http://websterpr.us1.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=bf141dbbd818f4f933816b13a&id=d1d9e1b7ef&e=11ba85b542

Summer is here, and Reflections – the weekly interview program hosted by Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame member Keith Bilbrey promises to deliver a lineup as hot as the weather outside, with a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as two acts that are celebrating unique milestones in 2016.

On July 4, the show will celebrate Independence Day with a visit from Roy Clark. A native of Virginia, Clark became a local TV and radio favorite in the late 1950s, and took his talents to national television in the 1960s. His quick wit and musical talent served him well as a guest host on The Tonight Show as well as the top-rated CBS classic The Beverly Hillbillies. Clark became a household name in 1969 by beginning a quarter-century run as co-host of Hee Haw. As a recording artist, his hits include “Yesterday, When I Was Young” and “Come Live With Me.” Clark was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2009.

One of America’s most-loved duos, The Bellamy Brothers, will appear on the July 11 edition. 2016 marks four decades since the Florida-born siblings stepped into the spotlight with their hit “Let Your Love Flow.” A Top-40 Country hit, the song topped Pop charts around the world, including the United States. In 1979, they successfully segued into Country Music full-time with the release of “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me),” which catapulted them to superstardom. The 1980s and 1990s included such hit follow-ups as “Redneck Girl,” “Old Hippie,” and “Santa Fe.” Their 1987 chart-topper, “Too Much Is Not Enough.” – recorded with The Forester Sisters is notable for being the only sextet to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Country charts. Comprised of brothers Howard and David, the duo are touring the world in celebration of their first hit.

Mark Wills talks with Keith on the July 18 edition. Wills, a Georgia native, first made his presence known in 1996 with the nostalgic “Jacob’s Ladder,” which helped him win an ACM Top New Male Vocalist award. The singer became one of the most successful balladeers of his time, with chart-toppers such as “Wish You Were Here” and “I Do (Cherish You).” His 2002 hit, “Nineteen Something,” holds the distinction of having the most airplay in one week of any other Country single of the monitored era. Wills’ newest release is Looking For America.

The month wraps up with a special appearance from The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on July 25. Comprised of Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter, and John McEuen, the band is celebrating their 50th Anniversary as recording and touring artists in 2016. They first came to prominence with Jerry Jeff Walker’s iconic “Mister Bojangles,” but it was their landmark 1972 three-disc set Will The Circle Be Unbroken that helped them to become loved universally by Pop and Country audiences alike. Their recording of Rodney Crowell’s “An American Dream” helped push them onto the Country charts, where they have remained for years with recordings like “Modern Day Romance,” “I’ve Been Lookin,” and “Fishin’ In The Dark.”

Reflections is filmed at The Hot Seat Studios, located in Hermitage, Tennessee, and is produced by Jeff Moseley and Brian Covert of CJM Productions. Each week, Keith Bilbrey leads one-on-one insightful interviews with country music's legendary artists. Viewers can also tune in to Sky Angel Two, The Family Channel or AMG TV to watch. Check your local listings for channels and airtimes.

Reflections airs on The Heartland Network Thursdays 8/7c (6 p.m. CST on WSMV 4.2 in Nashville) and Saturdays 4/3c. Click here to find your local channel.

TENNESSEE TOURISM HONORS 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND

Celebrating 50 Years as Part of The Soundtrack of America. Made in Tennessee

Pictured L to R: Brian Wagner, Jimmie Fadden, John McEuen, Jeff Hanna and Bob Carpenter

In Celebration of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s 50th anniversary, the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development honored bandmates Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter and John McEuen with special commemorative art pieces that included official Tennessee Ambassador of Goodwill certificates signed by Gov. Bill Haslam. The special presentation took place at Nissan Stadium during CMA Fest, just prior to the band’s debut performance at the stadium. Brian Wagner, assistant commissioner of marketing, Department of Tourist Development, made the presentation to each member of the world-renowned group.

“We are incredibly proud of the impact that the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has had on the musical heritage of Tennessee,” said Wagner. “Our brand message notes The Soundtrack of America. Made in Tennessee. Over the past fifty years, the works created by these musicians, in collaboration with legendary country music artists, have served as a touchstone for so many new fans to the genre not just in the United States, but around the world.”

Matted and framed along with the certificates signed by Gov. Bill Haslam was a custom-designed piece of artwork. Text creating a circle border to the design read, “The Unbroken Circle. Part of the Soundtrack of America. Made in Tennessee. June 11, 2016.” Incorporated into the center of the design was the band’s 50th anniversary logo which states, “Nitty Gritty Dirt Band: 50 Years of Dirt.”

This is not the first acknowledgement Tennessee Tourism has shown for the group, as the department recently supported the group’s star-studded televised PBS Pledge Special, a project that has reached more than 267 million viewers across the country. The show, filmed at the historic Ryman Auditorium, features guest artists including John Prine, Sam Bush, Vince Gill, Jerry Jeff Walker, Alison Krauss, Rodney Crowell, Byron House, and Jerry Douglas as well as former members, Jimmy Ibbotson (long-time member for decades) and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and early NGDB member Jackson Browne.

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has a full slate of dates commemorating the 50th milestone to run through the end of 2017, with many additional dates to be announced. Plans are extensive with select shows featuring special guests as well as many new exciting show elements.

“We are so humbled and honored to share the stage with these legendary artists who we’re grateful to call friends. And now our fans will have an opportunity to enjoy this historic show thanks to PBS and the Tennessee Department of Tourism,” Jeff Hanna said.

The special is made possible with support from the Tennessee Department of Tourism. “I’ve been a fan of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band for most of my life,” said Commissioner Kevin Triplett, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development.

“The influence of the band goes far beyond the enjoyment of listening to its music. There are pivotal projects in the history of music that are capable of changing a direction of a genre and raise awareness of an entire generation. It is not an overstatement to say the “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” album is one of those projects. Having the band launch their 50th anniversary celebration from the Mother Church of Country Music – The Ryman is more than appropriate, it is ordained. We’re fortunate to have them as part of ‘The Soundtrack of America, Made in Tennessee,’” Commissioner Triplett added.
