RICK MONROE'S 'GYPSY SOUL" CONTEST WINNER ANNOUNCED

Grand Prize Monster Energy Schecter Guitar Headed To Tommy Renfro Of Ohio

Singer/songwriter Rick Monroe's "Gypsy Soul" contest has wrapped, and the winners are as diverse as their versions of Monroe's signature song.

Grand prize winner Tommy Renfro of Hollansburg, Ohio is a Professor of Education at Indiana University East in Richmond, IN. The husband, father and singer/songwriter is a sports fanatic and a dreamer, who lives in Ohio and is the Worship Arts Director at Grace Baptist Church. His endearing rendition of "Gypsy Soul" is highlighted by his heartfelt - and accomplished - performance. "I had no idea that there was such great, unrecognized talent out there," admits Rick. "I'm gonna have to keep lookin' behind me now. Some of these folks are really, really good." Renfro is the happy recipient of the contest's Grand Prize Monster Energy Schecter guitar.

Second place winner Ron Zeller of Rockford, Illinois takes home a pair of Westone Audio UMPRO 30 in-ear monitors. Monroe notes that Ron's video submission is from a live performance. "It was cool," Rick says. "I think it was the only live performance video submitted. There he was on the stage, singing about life on the road. It was a flashback type thing for me - and it just worked."

Zach Linley of Rockwall, Texas snagged third place and is the proud new owner of a Rip Tide Ukulele from World Music Nashville. "Lots of likes and just a good solid performance," Rick notes. "Talent is everywhere, man."

Other notable entries include an instrumental version (submitted by Sam Persons and Fred Boekhorst of Rick's band), a cool take by Brandon Williams of Six Strings Crossings and one from Hilary Romaine and Alexander Coxe (aka DuskDivine). A complete list of winners and prizes can be seen HERE.

Rick toured heavily this year, entertaining fans with the sultry Billboard hit, "This Side of You," and other songs from his GYPSY SOUL EP, which is available on iTunes. He also revisited tunes from his previous project, IT'S A LOVE THING, including his previous Billboard hit "Great Minds Drink Alike." Monroe volunteered for several charity events, including house builds for the Murfreesboro, Tennessee chapter of Habitat For Humanity in July and November.

He also played in the annual Team Gamez golf tournament supporting The Boys and Girls Club, performed at a fundraiser for Folds Of Honor during The Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, and participated in the Hike for the Homeless, benefitting Safe Haven Family Shelter, Middle Tennessee's only shelter-to-housing program for families.

RICK MONROE'S SULTRY NEW SINGLE, "THIS SIDE OF YOU" IMPACTING RADIO NOW

First Release From Monroe's Upcoming EP, GYPSY SOUL,
Premieres On Taste Of Country Today

Rick Monroe's newest single, the sultry "This Side Of You," is impacting radio now, and popular website Taste Of Country will premiere the track today.  "This Side Of You" is the first release from his much-anticipated upcoming EP, GYPSY SOUL.  Radio can access the single via PlayMPE or CDX #644, and fans can pre-order now at Amazon.

 Early radio believers include:

Megan Zee, Bob 95 FM - "Combine the smooth vocals of Rick Monroe with the sultry lyrics and the additional female vocals and you are listening to the perfect 'get lost in the moment with you' Country song."

Dave Williams, KQKX/106KIX - "Rick Monroe delivers another solid Country song, with lyrics that will make the ladies melt and a groove that will get stuck in your head!"

Cameron Dole, KWHW Radio - "Love the new single."

Shelly Woods, WCFT Big Foot Country - "I LOVE IT!! This song speaks to everyone and it's a nice reminder to the ladies that's it's okay to let your hair down every once in a while, and have fun."

Stan Soboleski, WFRY Radio - "Will make your phones light up.  The right song to balance out your playlist."

Jaimie London, 107.7 The Bull - "I instantly fell in love with the song.  It's beautifully written and Rick delivers it with passion.  Definitely in my Top 10 of all Country songs."

Written by Monroe and pals Jason Duke and Ryan Griffin, "This Side Of You" was inspired by a recent trip taken by Griffin and his wife.  Generally reserved, Ryan's wife let the wine "win out" and let loose on that vacation.  Monroe recalls, "We were just chatting before our writing session, and when Ryan said that he'd never seen that side of his wife before, I knew we had a great hook!"  Duke and Griffin are the hitmakers behind Kelsea Ballerina's smash, "Dibs."

The groove-based tune features guest artist Kristen Rogers (of A Thousand Horses), and it is resonating with both male and female listeners.  "It's going over great at my live shows," notes Rick.  "It gets everyone out on the dance floor, that's for sure."

RICK MONROE SIGNS DEAL WITH McPHERSON GUITARS

Country Newcomer Set To Emcee Tour Which Will Feature Lee Brice

Lori Klenc (McPherson), John De Hoyos (Rick's guitarist), Rick Monroe
and Larry Klenc (McPherson)

World traveler, charity supporter and hard-rockin' country dynamo Rick Monroe has signed an endorsement agreement with McPherson Guitars.
Specializing in state-of-the-art, hand-crafted acoustic guitars, McPherson Guitars is headquartered in Sparta, Wisconsin.  "We choose only a limited amount of artists per year to join our family," says Larry Klenc, General Manager/Artist Relations, McPherson Guitars.  "Rick is a special talent with a long musical career ahead of him.  We're proud to add this talented artist to our team."

Having clocked thousands of miles on stages around the world, Monroe insists on playing only the instruments that are best suited to his sizzling live shows.  Now he has found what he was looking for.  "It's an honor to be part of the McPherson family," Monroe says.  "Some high-end guitars are compared to high-end cars like Maseratis or Bentleys.  But McPhersons are in a completely different league -- I'd say it's more like a G5.  The way it plays, the sustain and sound are unparalleled.  I look forward to making music with my amazing guitar."

Though relatively new to the national spotlight, Monroe has already made a sizable impact.  His current single, "Great Minds Drink Alike," is rising in both the Billboard Indicator and MusicRow charts.  And recently he was selected to the Jägermeister Presents: Lee Brice Country Concert Series as the brand ambassador and emcee for the seventh consecutive year; no other artist has enjoyed as long a run on the tour.  The multi-artist tour runs September 11 through October 24.

SINGLE REVIEW: "GREAT MINDS DRINK ALIKE" - RICK MONROE

Rick Monroe’s latest single “Great Minds Drink Alike” is an ode to the bar culture. To bars out in the country, to bars in little towns, to honky-tonks and hellraisers everywhere. We’re all going to be there and we can’t wait to see you it’s our every weekend special.

What I love about this song so much is that it perfectly lays out what it is. It starts out with “What I’m saying ain’t nothing new ain’t gonna reinvent the wheel we’re having a good time something we all wanna do we’re just saying what we think and feel.” A little while in he says “Yeah, you’re right this ain’t no love song but it’s the best that I can do.” An honest line if ever there was one, this song makes known exactly what they’re looking for and chasing after - that every Friday night until Sunday morning time, drinking and hanging out with all their friends. We’re all glad to be together, been waiting on this all week and now we’re going to get “hot women cold beer, Chevy trucks and John Deeres, everybody’s hitching a ride.”

My favorite of Monroe’s songs I can’t wait to play this song on repeat in whatever bar I’m in. His voice, the guitar and distinctive lyrics are all on par and are the best I’ve heard from him yet! If you can’t wait to hear/see more either he’s on tour in California this month and for June he’s going to have a New Jersey show along with a couple of shows and appearances at CMAFest.

10 MUST SEE ARTISTS AT #CMAFEST2015

Country fans are getting ready to take over Music City for 4 days next month and most are excited about seeing the big names at LP Field but we're excited for you to experience the newer artists, those you may not be familiar with and see what they have to offer. You may find that you have a new favorite! Here are our choices for 10 of the best new artists you must see at CMA Fest this year (in no particular order.) They've each made a name for themselves this year and are names you'll be hearing long after you get home from CMA Fest.

She's got a contagious smile and an infectious attitude, but this country beauty has the voice and stage presence to make her the total package. With her current debut single, "Love Me Like You Mean It" sitting at #13 on the charts, Kelsea Ballerini is making her way to the top in record time.

Friday, June 12
12:45pm - 1:10pm
Bud Light Stage

You may know Craig as last season's "Comeback Kid" who went on to win NBC's hit series, "The Voice" last season, but Craig's not a new voice on the country block. Having pounded the streets of Nashville for years, he's finally made his way to the attention of Americans everywhere. His debut single, "My Baby's Got a Smile on Her Face" hit #1 right out of the gate, tying Garth Brooks as the only artist to debut at #1 and now his second single, "I"m Still Here" is quickly gaining momentum.

Sunday, June 14
 3:00pm
Chevy Riverfront Stage

This country girl isn't content to sit on the sidelines and watch other females get the attention, she's come out swinging with her singles "Sorry on the Rocks", "Famous" and her latest "I Only Smoke when I Drink". Kelleigh Bannen's made her presence known and has made her mark on country music.

Saturday, June 13
12:05pm - 12:30pm
 Bud Light Stage

Another artist we could go on for days about, Mo Pitney. Mo is the right artist at the right time in country music. Talk about well timed. Right when fans are getting tired of the same old same old, along comes this soft spoken guy with anything but a soft voice. Mo's single "Country", co-written with "Whispering" Bill Anderson has country fans shouting for "Mo Country", not "Bro Country". When a voice can bring an entire room to dead silence and put tears in the eyes of the listener, you know you've heard brilliance. He is the "ePITome" of traditional country from his baseball cap to his cowboy boots. This boy's blood runs thick with tradition and twang.

"The Countriest of the Country"
George Jones Museum
This is a ticketed event. Tickets available here.

Thursday, June 11

Ray Scott is an original to say the least. His voice is deep and sexy, his attitude is brash and in your face and his music is the perfect combination of all of those ingredients. Ray is the guy your mama warned you about, but the artist that's proving that theory wrong because no one's mama could have ever had an imagination this good.

Thursday, June 11

A Thousand Horses hit the scene running with the power of ... well ... a thousand horses. Their current single, "Smoke" is smoldering on the charts in the Top 10 and it's looking like they may just have their first #1 single very soon. Crowds gather quickly to hear these guys in action so you'll want to stake out your spot pretty early!

Thursday, June 11
1:25pm to 1:50pm
Bud Light Stage

How would we describe Brian Davis? Unapologetic, rowdy, drunk on country and ready to put a boot in any crowd's ass. Fresh off the Hell on Wheels tour with country bad boy, Brantley Gilbert, Brian's kicked into full party mode and it doesn't take an invite to his party because everyone is welcome to grab a cold one and pull up a tailgate. Brian has co-written many songs with area artists including Brantley's current hit, "One Hell of an Amen" and that's exactly what fans are saying at the end of a Brian Davis show - amen!

Friday, June 12
2:00pm - 2:30pm
Gildan Broadway Hard Rock Stage

Rick Monroe, the face of the Jagermeister Country Tour for the past few years, has been pushing the Nashville envelope for years just trying to get someone to finally open it and see what a winner he is. This year, that envelope's been opened with his latest CD, "It's a Love Thing" making waves with industry players and his single "Fire's Out" breaking onto the Billboard charts and was even featured on Fox News this morning!

Saturday, June 13
4:00pm to 4:30pm
Belk Park Stage

After years of being an independent artist, releasing his own music and trying to prove himself, his hard work and belief in himself paid off in spades with his indie single, "Buy Me a Boat" hitting #1 on the iTunes country charts and peaking at #7 on the all genres chart, edging out Taylor Swift with the video being financed and produced by CMT and finally signing a record deal with Warner Music Nashville. Chris is a phenomenal songwriter and an energetic, interactive artist who knows how to keep 'em coming to the shows and buying the music.

Saturday, June 13
2:05pm - 2:30pm
Bud Light Stage

Where did this spitfire come from? Cam came out of nowhere and blasted country listeners with her fun, flirty debut single "My Mistake" and now she's everywhere you look. With a bright personality, a unique and one of country music's strongest female voices, we'll be seeing and hearing much more from Cam.

Friday, June 12
2:05pm - 2:30pm
Bud Light Stage

SINGLE REVIEW: "FIRES OUT" - RICK MONROE

SINGLE: "Fires Out"

Purchase "Fires Out" on iTunes / Amazon

Rick Monroe’s latest single, “Fires Out”, starts out with a nice little drum beat and a little guitar.  His voice comes in and it all picks up. It’s got somewhat of the same idea of “The Fireman” by George Strait in that the idea here is “spend all night putting fires out.” With lines like “It’s kind of hot the way you wear that dress” and “the heat from your lips”, you get the idea of what the song’s like. It definitely falls on the harder rock side of country, hints of ‘80’s rock are present. It will be interesting to see if he follows up with a more acoustic sound, after having his first single off of his EP “It’s a Love Thing” be so flavored with such a strong band presence.

Rick’s voice, the background whoa-ohh’s, and the substantial drum beat make this song radio-friendly. I can see it fitting right in next to Parmalee and Colt Ford. There’s definitely a presence of fun songs that don’t take themselves too seriously on country radio today, songs that aren’t afraid to add in a little innuendo or a little bad behavior. I can see this song being perfectly at ease, alongside songs such as Parmalee’s “Must’ve had a Good Time” or Eli Young Band’s “Drunk Last Night.” This fits well because Rick Monroe is touring this summer on Jaegermeister’s “Summer Of Music” tour with the Eli Young Band. Between his “Fires Out” and Eli Young Band’s “Crazy Girl” getting a little “Drunk Last Night” and a healthy dose of Jaegermeister, it’s sure to be a helluva good time!

Lewis finished the year with nominations from the Academy of Country Music for “Vocal Event of the Year,” as well as two CMT nominations for “Breakthrough Video of the Year” and “Collaborative Video of the Year.” Building upon the demand from his fans for a full-length solo album, Aaron Lewis proudly shares his country roots with the release of The Road, which hit stores on November 13, 2012, debuting in the Top 10 on Billboard Country Albums chart. His current single, “Forever” has broken into the Top 40 at radio, reaching #39 and still climbing. With seven studio albums released totaling sales over 15 million units throughout his 17 plus year career, country listeners will find a true work of art as Lewis honors traditional country, a genre the singer/songwriter was raised on as a child.

Recently, Monroe has been on tour with Pat Green, Eric Church, Josh Thompson and Randy Houser. He shared that he’s in the process of planning an another tour. With shows sponsored by Jagermeister (whose logo was etched into his guitar), it was only fitting that Monroe’s final song was titled “Great Minds Drink Alike.”

CONCERT REVIEW / *EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS* - JAGERMEISTER COUNTRY TOUR WITH RANDY HOUSER, RICK MONROE AND LATHAN MOORE AT CITY LIMITS SALOON RALEIGH, NC (6/29/12)

THE JAGERMEISTER COUNTRY TOUR
Venue: City Limits Saloon - Raleigh, NC
Date: June 29, 2012

The Jagermeister Country Tour rolled back into Raleigh on June 29 and this year was outstanding. What a lineup! The temperature may have been 107 degrees, but these boys brought the true heat. Country vocal powerhouse and one of music's best songwriters, Randy Houser, Render Records artist Rick Monroe and newcomer Lathan Moore took the stage and rocked the house until midnight. The show was fantastic! City Limits Saloon ALWAYS knows the artists that country fans want to see and they make it a party that everyone is invited to attend.

Lathan Moore opened the night. Honestly, I am not familiar with his music, although I do know his name and knew he had recently taken part in the Dukes of Dixieland cd with the Oak Ridge Boys. He put on a great show with a set consisting of himself and his guitar. Those are the sets I love the most. Lathan has very smooth vocals and a great stage presence. Pay attention to this guy,  you're gonna be hearing more from him soon!

One of our favorite new artists and friends, Rick Monroe, was the second performer of the night and MAN can he rock a stage! Wow! His set was very energetic, amped up and you could literally feel the speakers blowing your hair with every beat of the drums! Rick Monroe brings a quiet room to life, making people get off their feet and move. Check out his latest EP on iTunes along with his new single, "Crazy Not To".

Randy Houser ... where to even begin other than we've been waiting since February 2011 for him to make a return to City Limits. His shows are amazing! He heated things up with songs like "Whistlin' Dixie" and "Boots On" and then cooled it down to a sexy simmer with his hit "Anything Goes". He also covered "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd and in my opinion, sounded better than the original! Yes, I said it and I meant it. Pure raw vocal power, that's what Randy is. He sings it the way HE wants to sing it, sings what HE wants to sing and the crowd loves that about him. Randy is pure 100% unapologetic to the bone country.

GREAT SHOW!
