Award-winning singer-songwriter Skip Ewing performed to a full house at Nashville’s City Winery Wednesday night (12.6).

The two-hour set included a 12-song solo Hits Medley, “I Would If I Could” (recently recorded and released by CMA 2023 Entertainer of the Year Lainey Wilson — read the PEOPLE story here), “Railroad,” “The Juggler,” “Wyoming,” “Petroglyph,” “Margolaigne,” “Wreck Of My Heart,” “Windmill,” “Road Dog,” “Mister Snowman” and “Christmas Carol.”

“Lainey was so gracious to send a message that had she not been on the Opry the same night she would have come to the show and sung the new song with me,” Ewing said. “I look forward to actually meeting her. I absolutely love everything I know about her, and the way she sang the song Dean Dillon and I wrote, ‘I Would If I Could’ for the Apple Music ‘Lost & Found’ project.”

Ewing’s upcoming album Road To California is slated for release in February 2024.

Award-winning singer and songwriter Skip Ewing has signed with The Kinkead Entertainment Agency for exclusive booking representation, it was announced today jointly by Ewing and TKEA head Bob Kinkead. The news wrapped up an amazing month for Ewing, who is featured on the cover of Spotify’s New Traditions: Country Heroes for the month of January. The playlist has featured five songs from his critically acclaimed "Wyoming" album, which was nominated in the first round of the ACM Awards’ Album of the Year category.

“Life has come full circle in many ways for me over this past year,” said Kinkead. “I started working with Skip in 1987-88, and we became the best of friends - we even learned martial arts together. We had great success together in those early years as agent/artist, and now my team and I will conquer the live space with Skip and his new music. Here at TKEA we are very excited to be working with Skip and we can’t wait to see what the future brings all of us.”

“Bob and I have come together at once totally anew, and as old friends reunited,” said Ewing. “I can’t think of anyone I would rather have represent me, and I’m humbled by his belief, the belief and support of the whole agency, and all that’s happening around the new Wyoming album and the ACM nomination. Here’s hoping for incredible musical moments touring in 2021 and beyond!”

The unparalleled 12-song "Wyoming" album, which American Songwriter called, “a mystifying masterpiece of an album from a man that continues to not only evolve personally, but also professionally,” was recently released. Co-produced with Kyle Lehning, the album has accumulated over 850,000 spins on a variety of Spotify editorial playlists.

SKIP EWING: SONGWRITING’S MISSING ELEMENT

If I’m being honest, the state of country music and songwriting hasn’t given me much inspiration to sit down and write in quite awhile. There was a time that writing about it was all I wanted to do, then the passion began to slowly fade with each new Top 40 song, with each snap clap track and I felt the fire burn out with the content of each new rapid fire “hit” song pushed to radio every few weeks. It’s become stale, boring and without meaning or depth. The storytelling aspect of music seems to be lacking vision. There used to be a time you could find yourself smack in the middle of a song’s story, you could relate and get lost in the music. Skip Ewing, one of music’s most loved and talented storytellers is bringing back what’s been missing and I haven’t been this fired up and excited about an album in a long time.

As a songwriter, Skip Ewing, BMI’s Country Songwriter of the Year in 2000, is the quiet, unassuming pen behind such hits as Randy Travis’ “If I Didn’t Have You”,  Collin Raye’s “Love, Me”, Diamond Rio’s “I Believe”, Bryan White’s “Rebecca Lynn” and “Someone Else’s Star”, Clint Black’s “Something That We Do,” Kenny Chesney’s “You Had Me From Hello,” Reba McEntire’s “Every Other Weekend,” and more. He knows how to tell a story and better yet, a story that resonates and appeals to various emotions. He is an important part of the music that solidified a genre and now, after a long absence, he’s back to tell a new personal story with his long-awaited album, “Wyoming”, due for release on September 25.

Without saying too much and keeping the mystique of the album before it’s release, I will just say that I hope this album inspires new and current writers to make songwriting an art again, to paint color back on the boring beige canvas and to write from a deeper place. This album is an open window that lets in much needed fresh air. Skip isn’t about chasing chart positions or radio spins, he’s about authenticity and crafting simple, yet complex stories that will eventually find their way into a place to call home, the hearts of those who listen.

You can currently listen to or download a few of the songs, including the title track, “Wyoming”, at digital outlets now. I hope you’ll take the time to listen. The album in it’s entirety will release on September 25, but you can pre-order a signed physical cd or a digital download now at www.skipewing.com.

A Letter from Skip ...

Hello, my friends,

What an exciting year this has already become! As many of you know, a new album is in the works. I’ve now finished writing what we need to record, and we’ll begin recording the first week of July. It’s slated for release early next year, but we’ll be giving you "sneak listens" on Facebook as we go along.

In September, our schedule will finally allow us to be able to offer another songwriter retreat here in Wyoming. We haven’t been able to do so for a few years, and I’m already looking forward to new friends and exceptional experiences! Please sign up soon; we keep the event small so we can look deeply into everyone’s efforts and celebrate the artistic journey we’re all on together.

I’m so thankful for your support in so many ways. If you haven’t done so, follow me on Facebook. I’m loving being able to stay in touch personally.

Here’s to new music and a promising horizon. I hope we’ll be seeing you soon!

~ SE

VIDEO SERIES: HIT SONGWRITER SKIP EWING DISCUSSES THE ART OF SONGWRITING

Songwriters are, in reality, a dime a dozen, but really great songwriters who write from the heart and care about the music they write and actually write music that people want to hear are a special, truly gifted, thoughtful community.

Skip Ewing, Grammy and Tony nominated BMI Songwriter of the year and writer of hits like "Wish You Were Here" (Mark Wills), "I Believe" (Diamond Rio), "You Had Me From Hello" (Kenny Chesney) and many others, shares some insightful observations about songwriting, creativity, and commercialism.
