DARIUS RUCKER AND JENNIFER NETTLES UNITE ON REIMAGINED VERSION OF RUCKER’S "CAROLYN’S BOY" ALBUM STANDOUT : “NEVER BEEN OVER”

Already an emotional cornerstone of recent album Carolyn’s Boy from three-time GRAMMY Award-winner Darius Rucker, standout song “Never Been Over” now arrives as a duet with the captivating vocals of GRAMMY Award-winning entertainment powerhouse Jennifer Nettles adding a new dimension to the emotional ballad.

Penned by Rucker alongside Lee Thomas Miller and Brothers Osborne’s John Osborne, the original release of “Never Been Over” was celebrated by Billboard as a flipped perspective to Rucker’s chart-topping “It Won’t Be Like This For Long,” with the reflective song “looking back on a couple’s love nearly two decades later, chronicling years of emotional zeniths and low points, a duration spent raising kids and building a life together one day at a time”

We’ve been good and bad, hot and cold
And fightin’ mad, solid gold
Been sunny days, straight-line winds
Been drivin’ slow and guilty as sin
Been back roads lost and blue lights found
Dead of quiet, rockstar loud
Been up and down like we’re built on springs
We’ve been a lot of things

But we’ve never been
Splittin’ up friends, splittin’ up records
Puttin’ up walls, burnin’ down letters
Grass is greener ‘cause there’s something better
Waitin’ down the line
We’ve never been a headlights weaving, taillights fadin’
So long, move on, goodbye waitin’
Never been one last long look across your shoulder
We’ve been a lot of things, but we’ve never been over

“Writing that was very cathartic,” Rucker shared with Garden & Gun of the song. “It was almost like therapy for me. It’s so honest and one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written.”

“Now, to have Jennifer add her incredible voice to such an emotional song, you feel even more of what this couple is facing; unravelling the life they’ve built together,” reflects Rucker. “I’m so grateful she agreed to sing on it with me.”

“I’ve wanted to collaborate with Darius for such a long time! And when I heard the song, I loved its story,” adds Nettles. “But in addition to its theme of lifelong love, it feels so perfect for Darius and I to sing it together. Both of our careers have grown and changed so dramatically since we each started out. And, as the hook sings, ‘We’ve been a lot of things, but we’ve never been over.’ This song is a beautiful example and extension of that constant evolution.”

Currently on the road in Europe for a run of solo shows ahead of this summer’s Hootie & the Blowfish Summer Camp with Trucks Tour, Rucker is also preparing to share his first book with fans, a memoir titled “Life’s Too Short.” Set for release May 28, the memoir sees Rucker share the story of his life through the music that has defined it, offering readers an intimate glimpse into his journey from music enthusiast to music icon. KRISTIAN BUSH ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE "HUNT DOG HUNT," NEW ALBUM "TROUBADOUR"

PRE-SAVE "HUNT DOG HUNT"

Kristian Bush is doing a deep dive into his Appalachian roots with new single "Hunt Dog Hunt" out Nov. 5.

"A lot of times when people see my name next to a song, people expect joy,” Bush said. “‘Hunt Dog Hunt’ is exactly that.”

"Hunt Dog Hunt" is the debut single from his new album Troubadour. Available Nov. 19, the 16-song collection is the soundtrack to Bush’s beloved country music musical of the same name that debuted in Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre to rave reviews.

Bush’s theater prowess landed him a spot in Billboard (read HERE) earlier this year.

Half of the Grammy-winning country duo Sugarland, Bush grew up in East Tennessee's Smoky Mountains swathed in primitive mountain music and inescapable bluegrass tradition. He marries his heritage with his finely tuned song-crafting skills on Troubadour. The album begins with traditional 1930's bluegrass and progresses through the decades to land on a timeless Americana dynamic. The album's lead single "Hunt Dog Hunt" is a jaunty throwback Southern bop that celebrates the string band sound and old-time storytelling.

To respect the time period the songs reflect, Bush assembled a group of players familiar with the style and recorded the album live in one room in his Atlanta studio. They gathered in a circle and honed the unique blend of harmonies until they mimicked what Bush remembered hearing in church as a child.

"It's a very spooky thing when we get it right," Bush said. "You don't know where one note ends and the other begins. They all start to move together, and they're making a color that only people from the mountains make."

Bush wrote or co-wrote every song on the album.

"One way or another, where you grew up is what's in your bones," Bush said. "As many wonderful, crazy opportunities as I get in my life to go play music, you have to know where you're from because otherwise, you'll have no idea where you're going. This record is me."

KRISTIAN BUSH ‘GIVES IT AWAY’ ON NBC’S TODAY SHOW

Multi-Platinum Artist Performed Hit Single “Trailer Hitch”
and Announced New Partnership with Goodwill®

Debut Solo Album SOUTHERN GRAVITY Forthcoming On Streamsound Records

PRESS RELEASE

Nashville, TN (October 27, 2014) – Multi-platinum recording artist Kristian Bush performed his Top 35-and-climbing hit “Trailer Hitch” on NBC’s TODAY show this morning and announced an exciting new partnership with Goodwill Industries International.

Watch the video here: http://www.today.com/video/today/56310567#56310567.

The partnership is inspired by “Trailer Hitch,” which reminds us that we collect so many things that we don’t need, and we can’t take it with us when we go… so why not “give it away”? The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of Goodwill’s mission to transform lives through the power of creating jobs.

“When I learned more about Goodwill® and what they do with the proceeds from donations -- how those donations help create jobs -- I was really excited to join the effort,” said Bush. “If you are interested in creating change in your community, donating to Goodwill is a great place to start. It is so much more than a thrift shop."

By using the catchy, irresistible hook of “Trailer Hitch,” Bush will join Goodwill in spreading the word that when fans “give it away” to Goodwill, the revenue from the sale of donated clothing, electronics, and small household goods goes directly to help find employment for people in their communities with disabilities or disadvantages.

“Trailer Hitch” brings Bush’s voice to the foreground and is the lead single from his forthcoming debut solo album, SOUTHERN GRAVITY (Streamsound Records), executive produced by Byron Gallimore.

KRISTIAN BUSH IS ‘GIVING IT AWAY’ IN LYRIC VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE “TRAILER HITCH”

Video Exclusively Premiered on Rolling Stone Country

Photo Credit: Courtesy of Streamsound Records

PRESS RELEASE

NASHVILLE, TN – July 11, 2014 - Platinum-selling country singer Kristian Bush takes ‘giving it away’ to another level in the lyric video for his brand new single, “Trailer Hitch,” which exclusively premiered on Rolling Stone Country on Tuesday (7/8). With his guitar over his shoulder, Bush took to the streets of Chicago and instead of playing for ‘tips,' he cleverly filled his guitar case with cash to give away to people passing by.

Written by Bush along with his brother Brandon Bush and Tim Owens, the infectious song carries the underlying message of enjoying the gift of giving back over the desire for material things. The video shows Bush inscribing the words ‘please take one’ on the sidewalk in chalk next to his open guitar case full of money and encouraging people to pay it forward. In the end, he leaves with a giant smile after giving away $300 in less than two hours.

"I thought how cool it would be if we tried to give away money from a guitar case instead of ask for money," Bush tells Rolling Stone Country. "People were looking at me funny; they got suspicious. I mean, here I am giving strangers money on the street. People would say no, and then I'd say, 'Go give it to someone who needs it.' Then they caught on. It turns out, people are much more comfortable giving than they are taking."

For more behind-the-scenes check out the exclusive premiere on Rollingstone.com.

SINGLE REVIEW: "TRAILER HITCH" - KRISTIAN BUSH

SINGLE: "Trailer Hitch"
ARTIST: Kristian Bush
REVIEWER: Alyse Smith
Follow Alyse on Twitter at @ASmith1300

Purchase "Trailer Hitch" on iTunes / Amazon starting July 28, 2014

Kristian Bush, formerly of Sugarland, is pursuing a solo career and his debut single is “Trailer Hitch”. It’s a very funny song with a good message. The message being “You can’t take it with you when you go, so give it away!” It’s both an uplifting and revitalizing song, not only lyrically but instrumentally, the tune is catchy and bright. I already can’t wait to hear this song more often! It’s a good song for any occasion, but I can see a summer day having a drink with friends with the sun shining and enjoying what you have and who you have. The more I hear Kristian Bush sing, the more I wonder why we haven’t heard Kristian sing more. I can now say that I’ve loved every project he’s done between his Sugarland days and now his solo career. Jennifer Nettles is an incredible vocalist, I hope if they work together again they’ll do more of trading lead vocals back and forth. How can you not love a song that starts with “I’m going to buy you a drink and maybe one for this whole town”? This is definitely not like anything on country radio right now. Between his vocals and songwriting, it’s nice to hear a song that’s a little different with such a positive message. I can’t wait to see what’s next from him, but I have a feeling that he’ll be making a cozy little home at the top of the charts and sticking around for a while with this one!

JENNIFER NETTLES GOES IT ALONE

They say it begins with a song. For Jennifer Nettles, it began with a phone call.

Rick Rubin had long been at the top of the singer’s wish list of producers, but it wasn’t until her manager, Gail Gellman, suggested she make the call that Nettles picked up the phone. Best known for her front-and-center work with the duo Sugarland, Nettles had been quietly preparing for three years to cut her own album, writing songs she believed took her to a whole new level of artistry.

“I approached it like I do most everything in my life, with a lot of forethought and a lot of dreaming ahead of time,” she said. “I love what Sugarland has done, but for quite a while, a part of me has not only wanted to prove myself to myself, but also to share with my fans a part of me that just can’t happen in a duo. There are parts of me that are special and intimate that I’d like to share with my fans, but I can’t go there in an ensemble situation with Kristian (Bush). So for personal and artistic reasons, I wanted to do something new and fresh, to shake things up and put a different part of myself out there.”

Rubin possesses a jaw-dropping list of production credits, which include Adele’s Grammy-winning 21 and Johnny Cash’s majestic final American Recording series, not to mention works by Aerosmith, LL Cool J, Metallica, Tom Petty and U2. Still, Nettles didn’t have to camp out on his doorstep to get his attention.

“I love her voice,” Rubin said, recalling their initial communication. “When she sent me some early demos of the songs she was writing, I got even more excited about making music together. It was a fantastic experience. Jennifer is as great a person as she is a singer and songwriter, and I hope people feel the positive energy we all felt in the studio.”

The resulting 14-track album, That Girl, scheduled to drop Jan. 14 on Mercury Records, show-cases Nettles’ genre-crossing vocal artistry and songwriting strengths. Except for a striking cover of Bob Seger’s “Like a Rock,” each song bears her name as a writer. Her co-writers include people she’d worked with in the past and others she’d phoned on a whim because she felt they’d be right for the project, including Sara Bareilles, Richard Marx, Mike Reid and Butch Walker.

Nettles altered her usual writing process for That Girl, spending hours alone at the piano rather than relying chiefly on guitar, as she’d done previously. “I left myself completely open from the beginning in writing for this project,” she said. “I’m in a different place in my life now. I’m more mature as a woman, and I’ve had my child. I didn’t want to put any constraints on myself. I needed to trust my voice and my songwriting in order to be vulnerable and trust someone else in the studio. Really, what I hope people will say when they listen to this album is, ‘Wow. Wow, that really took me on a journey. And wow, she is a much better singer and songwriter than I would ever have known.’ I hope they see another side of me.”

Besides the album, Nettles has something else to be excited about: her return for the fourth consecutive year as host of “CMA Country Christmas,” airing Dec. 2 on the ABC Television Network. “What I love about working with Jennifer is that she’s exactly in real life who she is on television,” said Robert Deaton, who has served as Executive Producer of the special since its launch in 2010. “She’s like a bright light that never dims. She loves the entertainment side of what we do. We try to pay homage to the old Bing Crosby/Dean Martin variety shows where Jennifer comes onstage and does interviews. That’s a talent in itself, to be able to do an interview in front of thousands of people and yet still be listening to the person you’re interviewing and moving it along.”

Nettles has several favorite moments from her ongoing run. “I absolutely loved Miss Piggy and Vince Gill (singing ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ in 2011),” she recalled. “And I love that last year, we added interviews with the kids. That was super fun for me. I love seeing the evolution from where it’s been to where it is now. To be a part of it is a really big honor. I hope it’s something that keeps happening for years and years.”

For all that she has achieved, for all the CMA and Grammy Awards she’s won, and even for launching her first solo tour in February, Nettles does have one more goal. “How fun would it be to be nominated by CMA for Female Vocalist of the Year? Or to win awards as a solo artist? That would mean the world to me.”

24 HOURS ONLY: JENNIFER NETTLES PREMIERES "THAT GIRL" VIDEO ON LIVENATION

Today, Mercury Records recording artist Jennifer Nettles is exclusively premiering the video for her new single “That Girl” at LiveNation.com for 24 hours. Nettles plays the lead role in the video which was shot in New York City and directed by Philip Andelman (Beyonce, Jay-Z, Taylor Swift).

Nettles who wrote “That Girl” with fellow Georgian Butch Walker didn’t plan to write the song from the perspective of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.” The song about a woman who is bamboozled into getting involved with another woman’s man evolved through the writing process and in the end could be called The Ballad of Jolene.

That Girl” is the title track of her highly anticipated debut solo album to be released in early 2014. The album was produced by Rick Rubin and recorded at the famous Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, California.

THOMPSON SQUARE WINS “VOCAL DUO OF THE YEAR” at the 47th Annual ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS

Chart-Topping Duo Pulls Biggest Upset in Recent Country Music History

(LAS VEGAS, NV) – Last night – in arguably the biggest awards show upset in recent Country music history - Stoney Creek Records duo Thompson Square were awarded the Academy of Country Music’s 2011 “Vocal Duo of the Year” Award.

The husband/wife duo comprised of Keifer and Shawna Thompson was surprised with the award onstage by ACM CEO Bob Romeo in front of thousands of screaming fans at the ACM Salute to the Military Concert at the ACM Experience at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on Saturday night -- just moments after they had completed their set.

Thompson Square – who was officially honored as “Country Music's Breakthrough Artist of 2011” by Music Row Magazine in February — dethroned reigning Country superstars Sugarland who have won the award for 2 years. Sugarland is also the reigning CMA Awards Vocal Duo for the past 4 years.

Thompson Square becomes only the third duo to win the ACM “Vocal Duo of the Year” Award in the past 20 years (since 1991) with Sugarland and Brooks & Dunn previously winning in the category respectively.

“It’s been a long, long road,” Keifer Thompson told the crowd. “This is one of the greatest nights of our lives.” Overcome with emotion, he continued, “It’s hard to talk when you’re crying.”

“This is a very bittersweet moment for me,” added Shawna Thompson as she fought back tears. “More sweet than bitter. My dad passed away a month ago. This is for my dad.”

Thompson Square’s win is a Country Music Cinderella Story of sorts as the duo is hardly an “overnight success,” despite its quickly skyrocketing career.

In fact, Keifer and Shawna Thompson pounded the pavement for 13 years in the music industry before finally signing to tiny independent label Stoney Creek Records. The young married couple worked odd jobs, played bar shows and knocked on countless closed doors during that time before deciding they would hang up their microphones after one last year of perseverance. During one final showcase, Broken Bow Records President/ CEO Benny Brown recognized something special in Thompson Square and signed them to his brand new independent label Stoney Creek Records (sister label to Broken Bow Records and home to Jason Aldean).

Two years ago to this very DAY, Thompson Square was first introduced to Country Radio at a suite performance during ACM Awards weekend. One year ago to this very WEEK, Thompson Square’s inaugural smash, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” reached the #1 spot at Country Radio.

In the past year, Thompson Square’s star has risen meteorically. The duo’s self-titled, debut album has produced 2011’s #1 Most Played Country Song “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” the follow-up Top 10 hit, “I Got You,” as well as the duo’s latest hit, “Glass,” which showcases a more serious side of the duo as well as poignant, powerhouse vocals from Shawna Thompson.

In only one year, Thompson Square has seen the release of its first album debut at #3 on the Billboard Country Sales Chart and its smash, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” reach #1 on both the Billboard and Mediabase Country radio charts, conquer the Billboard Heat Seekers Chart, spend 5 weeks at #1 on the Country Digital Soundscan Chart and remain the #1 Country Ringtone for 12 weeks straight. At press time, “Are You Going to Kiss Me Or Not,” was nearing double platinum sales status.

Thompson Square also earned 16 major award show nominations in less than 12 months, including two 2012 GRAMMY nominations for “Best Country Song” and “Best Country Duo/Group Performance of the Year.”

In December, Thompson Square returned home for the holidays as the 2nd most awarded act at FOX’s 2nd Annual American Country Awards, winning the fan-voted trophies for Single of the Year by a Group; Single of the Year by a New Artist; Music Video of the Year by a New Artist (“Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not”).

Also in 2011, Thompson Square was named one of USA Today’s “Six Pack of Success” stories, was heralded as USA Weekend’s “Who’s Hot in Hollywood,” peaked at #3 on MTV’s Music Meter (all genres) and landed on Entertainment Weekly’s “Hot List.”

Thompson Square ended 2011 as the “New Country Artist of the Year” (Mediabase) as well as Billboard’s #1 New Country Artist of 2011, in terms of sales. The duo also ranked as Billboard’s #6 New Artist of 2011 (sales - all genres) and“Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” was named iTunes’ “Country Single of 2011.”

In their short time on the scene, Thompson Square has performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Conan, Fox & Friends, NBC’s The Better Show, the 45th Annual CMA Awards, GAC’s Christmas in the Black Hills and Fox’s Summer Concert Series, as well as been featured in USA Weekend, Entertainment Weekly, People Country, the Associated Press, MSN Wonderwall, Country Weekly, Southwest Spirit Magazine, USA Today, Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, Pollstar, and Billboard.

Additionally, the 2011 American Music Award nominee for New Artist of the Year is also the only duo to reach #1 on CMT’s Top 50 Artist Chart in 2011. 2011 also found Thompson Square nominated for multiple CMA and CMT Awards as well as playing to over one million fans, many as part of Jason Aldean’s My Kind of Party Tour.

Thompson Square is currently criss-crossing the U.S. as part of Lady Antebellum’s Own The Night World Tour with upcoming stops to include two nights at NYC’s legendary Radio City Music Hall on May 3 and 4.

Even with all of Thompson Square’s recent success, Keifer and Shawna have still found time to give back. The duo recently partnered with ChildFund International to raise awareness and support for children across the world dying from hunger and poverty. Thompson Square has personally sponsored a little girl named Lady in Indonesia. The duo will also give a free, autographed copy of its self-titled debut album to fans that sign up to sponsor a child at Thompson Square concerts.

Thompson Square appeared tonight as presenters on the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards broadcast on CBS.

Sugarland Resisted Delaying Concert, Indiana Fair Official Testifies

INDIANAPOLIS — Country duo Sugarland resisted delaying the start of a concert last August at the Indiana State Fair despite threatening weather that later caused a deadly stage collapse, the fair’s top official testified in a lawsuit against the company that built the stage rigging.

During a Jan. 16 deposition, Indiana State Fair Commission executive director Cindy Hoye testified that a representative for a concert promotion company working with the fair twice approached Sugarland about the fair’s desire to delay the show. But Hoye said the band expressed concerns about how a delay would affect the time lead singer Jennifer Nettles needed to warm up and complicate the band’s travel to its next show.

“They were trying to get to Iowa to play the Iowa State Fair, and so they said they did not want to delay,” Hoye testified as part of a lawsuit filed against Mid-America Sound Corp., which built the roof and rigging used to hold the lights and sound equipment used in the Aug. 13 concert.

The company released a portion of Hoye’s deposition Wednesday after the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined Mid-America $63,000 for three serious violations of industry standards, which it said contributed to the stage collapse that killed seven people and injured 58 others.

The six-month investigation found the company, the stagehands union and fair officials share blame for the collapse, which occurred when a powerful storm swept into the fairgrounds and knocked over the outdoor stage rigging just before Sugarland was to perform.

Hoye said that the fair offered to pay for extra stagehands in Des Moines to reduce the time needed to set up the stage, but the band declined.

Myra Borshoff Cook, a spokeswoman for Mid-America, said the company released Hoye’s comments because “we thought it was important for people to see the bigger picture.”

Representatives for Sugarland did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press. Stephanie McFarland, a spokeswoman for the fair, also had no immediate response.

State Labor Commissioner Lori Torres said OSHA’s report, the first of three independent investigations into the tragedy, was intended to improve workplace safety, not assign blame. However, it issued small fines against the fair, company and union.

The report said Mid-America failed to adequately address safety standards. It found fair officials didn’t sufficiently plan for emergencies and were too slow to order an evacuation of the grounds when powerful winds blew in ahead of a storm.

The report also said the union hadn’t adequately trained members how to work at heights or provided them with fall protection.

None of that, however, could have necessarily prevented the collapse, Torres said.

“The state fair commission believed they had more time than they actually had based on weather conditions,” Torres said. “This is not the same as saying that even if it had developed the proper protocol no one would have been injured. But clearly an earlier evacuation … would have changed things.”

OSHA fined the Indiana State Fair Commission $6,300 for failing to conduct proper safety evaluations of its concert venues.

The company said it told the fair commission and Sugarland about the temporary roof’s limitations in severe weather, advising that the area be evacuated in the event of lightning or winds topping 40 mph. Those warnings were reiterated the night of the concert, the statement said.

Despite that, they “refused to postpone the concert and failed to implement an evacuation plan away from the temporary roof structure,” the statement said.

Torres agreed that fair officials lacked an adequate evacuation plan and that the decision to evacuate the grandstand was ultimately up to Hoye, the executive director. She didn’t respond to a call from The Associated Press seeking comment.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 30 also came under fire, accused of five workplace violations.

The report found that the union, not the commission, was the employer of the stagehands who were working Aug. 13 when the stage collapsed. But union attorney Bill Groth called that “absurd.”

“Needless to say, Local 30 feels it is being scapegoated by this administration, whose agents’ own gross negligence in failing to vacate the premises in the face of the imminent storm cannot be explained away,” Groth said in an email to The Associated Press.

Torres said the agency determined the union was the stagehands’ employer because it selected the workers for the job and filed W-2s, workers compensation and other documents, among other factors. The union was fined $11,500.

Sugarland was not penalized, though the band has been named in some lawsuits over the accident. The agency said the band didn’t employ the workers and wasn’t responsible for building the stage.

Jeff Carter, IOSHA’s deputy commissioner, said the union had indicated it would contest the findings and state fair officials had requested a meeting with OSHA officials. Mid-America had not responded, he said.

Torres noted that state inspections of temporary structures such as the stage rigging weren’t required at the time of the collapse but that a bill to require such inspections is pending in the Legislature.

Officials said the OSHA probe was prompted largely by the deaths of stagehand Nathan Byrd, who fell when the roof collapsed, and security guard Glenn Goodrich, who was standing nearby.

State officials have also hired two out-of-state companies to review the stage collapse and the state’s emergency response to the disaster. International engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti is conducting an investigation of the rigging collapse and national emergency planning advisers Witt Associates are reviewing the state’s emergency plans and its response to the collapse.

Fair commission Chairman Andre Lacy said in a statement that those investigations will “give us the information we need to develop a comprehensive plan to take us forward.”
