Now in its 29th year, the Smithfield Ham & Yam Festival is scheduled for Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4, 2013. The Farm will kick-off the festival with a free 8:30 p.m. concert on Friday at the Stevens Sausage Pavilion at the Neuse River Amphitheatre. Casey James will close the festival with a free concert at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. Craft vendors will take to the streets on Saturday, May 4, along with entertainment on two stages and fun activities for the entire family. The Fisk Jubilee Singers were the first touring group from Music City and the first musical group to tour the world. They began a tradition other musical artists have followed ever since. This is the heritage and legacy of Music City. Join us as we honor this iconic musical institution. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Fisk Jubilee Singers.
Grammy Award-winning blues musician Keb' Mo' will perform along with the Fisk Jubilee Singers, Wynonna, Michael McDonald, THE FARM, and other musical guests.
The benefit concert is part of the Music City Soul Series, a program produced during Black History Month that honors the contributions of African American musicians to Nashville.
2012 was the year of the usuals - Carrie, Taylor, Luke, Jason, Kenny, and I could go on and on. You know, the same songs over and over again every time you turn on the radio. Don't get me wrong, they're all outstanding but it's time for some variety and to give others a chance to shine. I have a feeling that 2013 is gonna be a breakout year for those artists who are just as good (some even better if we're being honest) that are gonna make their mark and finally get the attention they've earned. The best thing about country music fans is that they don't wear blinders, they know there are a lot of great artists out there that are underrated and overlooked and they aren't afraid to speak up for them and get their music out there. Let's request these songs on radio, tell people about them, buy their music, do what we can to support them and be that voice they need to get that attention. Here are some of our favorites that we are sure we'll be hearing great new music from in 2013.

It's the end of the year and I like to acknowledge songs that made a difference to me this year. Some you may know, some you may not be familiar with. All of these songs are by amazing artists who sing and write from their hearts, who chose to make a difference in what their music says, to try to reach the listener where it counts the most, their conscience and their emotions. These are my picks for 2012. Hope you enjoy them. I don't think there's a song out there that sums up the spirit of Thanksgiving any better thanThe Farm's latest single, "Be Grateful". It's pretty simple isn't it? There is always something to be grateful for. Thanks to Nick, Krista Marie and Damien for such a wonderful song, a meaningful song, a song that should make anyone that listens learn to be more grateful.

These aren't just country stations, they are country stations with the nation's largest audiences and are Mediabase reporting stations. Below are the links to each station's "Mediabase Playlist Requests" which are for us, the fans, to let them know what we want to hear. Check up to 5 of your favorite new songs listed. If your favorite song is NOT listed, please write it in at the bottom where there is a space for handwritten song requests. The higher the demand through these lists in addition to calls, tweets, texts and emails, the sooner your favorite can get added to the playlist and the longer your favorite can stay in rotation. Huge request, if you don't see Steve Holy's new one listed, "Hauled Off and Kissed Me", please add it to one of the write in slots, there are slots for 3 unlisted songs. Let's get this song added to rotations in these major markets, along with any other new singles that you don't see. Please do not call the station's program directors or music directors unless you are officially working on behalf of the artist such as a label rep, promotions rep, publicist, management, etc. Although it seems as though this is being helpful, it can actually hurt an artist more than help and make it harder to get added. Don't let this name fool you, there's nothing "Old MacDonald" going on here. The Farm, Inc has come on headstrong and kicking (ok, so that might be a LITTLE Old MacDonald if he had a new horse on his farm that he was trying to saddle up). New fans wanna know where these guys have been hiding for so long and longtime fans already know. Truth is, they've been right under their nose the whole time.
Frontman Nick Hoffman has been playing sold out stadium shows for over 10 years as Kenny Chesney's fiddle player (or as we prefer to call him, "Fiddlemaster"), while Damien Horne has been entertaining Nashville audiences for years as a solo artist and member of Big and Rich's "Muzik Mafia" which is an informal group of musicians banded together to bring real music to the masses. The "family" includes Cory Gierman, Big Kenny, Jon Nicholson, John Rich, Gretchen Wilson, James Otto, Cowboy Troy, Damien, Pop/Rock Artist Rachel Kice, Shannon Lawson, Two-Foot Fred, Shanna Crooks, Spoken Word Jen "SWJ" and honorary member, John Anderson. Damien has also collaborated with such well known artists as Bon Jovi, Kid Rock, John Legend, Hank Williams Jr and more. Krista Marie, the bad ass, hair tossing, powerhouse vocalist and founder of The Farm, Inc is an ATV motocross racer who was involved in a bad crash in 2008. Her song, "Drive It Like You Stole It" was the ESPN 2009 NHRA drag racing theme. She broke onto the country charts with "Jeep" and "Tomboy". You bring these three talented names together and you have a group destined for stardom with a rare talent that explodes in every note, every live performance and harmonize tighter than Luke Bryan's skinny jeans.Their stage show is phenomenal, extremely high energy from first note to last, and leaves an audience wanting more.
This debut cd is top to bottom, start to finish, honestly good music. There are no "filler, fluffernutter, take up space" garbage songs on here. What you will find is music that makes you feel good, music that makes you want to sing along and songs that work together to showcase this amazing group of voices.
The first track on the cd is just what it says, a "Farm Party". Is it a little cheesy that they used the band name in the title? Maybe a little, but the song itself is an amped up party song, makes you wanna throw some kinda party and dance on a bar. This band IS a Farm Party. Being co-written by one of country's hardest rockin' women, Bridgette Tatum ("She's Country" - Jason Aldean), it's no wonder this song's so full of energy and enthusiasm. Track two, "Home Sweet Home" is the first single released from the cd. It debuted on the charts at #54 and is a fan favorite on country music televison. The single was written by the three band members and superstar writer, Danny Myrick and included pretty vivid imagery and details throughout the song about "mama's home cookin' and sweet magnolia trees". Being a southern girl, these two things immediately make me wanna go home sweet home. Another song getting rave reviews from fans is "Be Grateful", which is something we all need to be reminded of and this song sends that message straight home. The remainder of the cd is nothing to turn your nose up at, nothing but good stuff with my personal favorite track, "That 100 Miles" included. The harmonies on this musical story of looking back and love left behind are amazing. I personally hit repeat no less than 10 times and sing it at the top of my really off key lungs every time. Comprised of three amazing artists, there is more true natural talent in this trio than you hear in any Nashville venue on a given night. The Farm consists of Nick Hoffman, fiddle player for Kenny Chesney, Damien Horne who is one of Nashville's favorite singer/songwriters and original member of the Muzik Mafia and bombshell with a kick ass attitude and vocals of an angel, Krista Marie. I am loving this new group, The Farm. I had no idea Damien Horne was in it until I saw this tonight, have always loved his music. Here is their version of "O Holy Night" on the upcoming GAC "Christmas in the Black Hills" special, premiering on December 12. The special will also feature Big & Rich performing “Blue Christmas” and “Drunk on Christmas,” an original song by Jimmy Fallon. Bradley Gaskin will be performing “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem” and Thompson Square will break out their own version of “Santa Claus is Coming To Town” in addition to “Christmas in Dixie”. Tracy Lawrence will tell you to “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, newcomer Andy Gibson performs “The Christmas Song” and “Feliz Navidad” . The show will end with a christmas medley including all artists involved. This is gonna be a good one! Check your local listings for times.
